What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
SodaStream flavors are well-received
I haven't tried an awful lot but the sodastream pepsi and pepsi max flavours are pretty solid.
Easy. The Lingonberry drink syrup from IKEA is hands down the best thing I’ve ever used with the SodaStream.
I buy the Pepsi zero, diet mt dew, the soda stream brand diet dr Pete and the diet rootbeer.
I've saved money with mine. I've had it for a year and a half, I've been using it daily.
Convenient to have sparkling water on demand
I've been looking into buying a Soda Stream for months now because I love sparkling water.
We typically do 3-4 liters a day, and a tank lasts us about 7-9 days.
Reduces waste from single-use plastics
It was worth it for us and it helped increase my water intake.
it's the wast reduction for me, folkow closely by not having to carry the cans/bottles in from the store regularly
Cost-effective over time with CO2 tank
It does drastically save if you get a big tank of co2. Then the things cheap to run.
First year of ownership saw a savings of just under $20 due to upfront cost of the machine and cannisters.
SodaStream Terra is a reliable choice
Best Soda stream machine in 2024
The Terra or Art are both great. The electric Terra is pretty nice but a extra 50 dollars.
Saves money with CO2 adapter
I got myself a [Fizzpod], and honestly, I wouldn’t dream of getting another one, it’s that good.
Supports eco-friendly living by reducing plastic waste
I recently started using Sodastream and I love it. Being someone who deeply cares about sustainability, I regret not switching to soda machines earlier.
Even though bottled soda was cheap (AUD$0.79 per 1.25L bottle) I broke even in less than a year. The next thing I did was convert my machine to a 2.6kg CO2 home brew cylinder and it got more cost effective than buying the 400g sodastream cylinders.
Cost-effective in the long run compared to buying bottled soda
It took less than 6 months to recover the cost of the tanks.
Offers customization of flavors and drinks
I add fresh lime or lemon juice to mine. Gives a nice flavor and some actual vitamins
I was addicted to the bubbles not so much the soda, I drink it plain or with bubbly flavors, haven't drank a soda in 3 yrs.
That's way longer than I expected. Guess I'll have to dive into the world of home soda making now because I want to try this.
Encourages increased water intake
I like my home soda water better, but I do occasionally get flavors to drop In, but mostly it's great plain.
Cost-effective compared to buying soda
I think it would be cheaper to buy a soda machine, but worry that the gas canisters, flavorings, and water filters will end up being more expense and more work.
I think you’d still be better off than buying soda.
rigging a 40lb co2 tank supplies me with enough gas for more than a year of frequent (1-2 bottles a day) soda making, for about $100 upfront.
Convenient to carbonate water at home
So it doesn’t actually have the water running through it. So it might not really be a problem.
I've been addicted to sparkling well water for years.
I’ve had the stream for 2 weeks, there are 4 cans in the return bin, and I’m enjoying my soda.
It’s much more convenient and easier on my back!
Convenient for carbonating water at home
I’m wondering if this is the right time to finally stop buying boxes of sparkling water at Costco.
You put tap water in the included bottle and fizz it up in the bottle. No need to filter it first, unless your local tap water tastes nasty.
Cost-effective with CO2 tank adapter
Makes it insanely cheap to use.
Plus, it's far more economical.
Convenience of carbonation
Are there any major upgrades that the electronic model has over the manual one?
I was gifted an E-terra and really like the conveniece of just installing the bottle and pressing the desired carbonation level and can walk away.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Limited to carbonating water only
Get a DrinkMate Omnifizz, then you don't have to locked into concentrated syrups as much.
Limited savings on carbonated beverages
As it comes, the Soda Stream system really doesn't save much money - but it does save you lugging 2L bottles of club soda.
From my experience, if you're looking at it to save money, you're going to break even at best, even with using bulk CO2 in some form.
Pressure issues with carbonation
I may be wrong, but I’m not sure Sodastream sells any machines that still use the screw-on canisters;they use the new pop-in kind.
Initial investment may take time to recoup savings
I dunno, $14 for a 24-pk is getting pretty steep here in the US too....
Requires filtered water for best results
I would use filtered water to prevent clogging the sodamaker.
I use a zero pitcher to filter it before carbonating.
Flavors are inferior to name brand sodas
if you over carbonate and then put in too much syrup, it will explode like mentos nd diet coke.
Requires cold water for best carbonation results
The only thing is the water should be cold so you really don’t go directly from the tap to the soda stream.
Flavors can be considered inferior
I have resisted buying one because I don’t like the flavors you can get, but knowing sprecher has a syrup hell yeah I’ll buy one

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about tank sizes and refilling CO2
Ok great, thanks for your help! Someone else here also recommended getting a larger tank and not buying the CO2 bottles, I think that makes a lot of sense.
Do you mind sharing the tank and adaptor you use?
Here is the post from when I did it: https://www.reddit.com/r/SodaStream/comments/fqvkor/upgraded_to_a_20lb_tank/
Discussion about CO2 tank sizes
Sorry for old post but... What do you mean when you say full size tank? Like not just the 60l canister?
Yeah like a 5 10 or 25lb tank.
Discussion about different soda maker models
Want something that will make as close to fountain soda at something like a McDonald's as possible.
All of these 3 will work to get you what you want if you make carbonated water and then add fountain soda syrup and gently shake it.
The fizz is a lot stronger.
I would get an Aarke Pro (but my upper cabinets are 1/2-inch too short for it to fit nicely).

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about alternative water sources for carbonation
Low in minerals and cold are key to a good fizzy soda.
Most soda makers recommend that to carbonate properly.
You can also go to a grocery store to refill a huge container for under $1.
DIY CO2 tank modifications discussed
Exactly what I do. It’s the fizz not the flavor. I buy 20lb co2 tanks at 45 bucks. They last about 9 months.

Discussion about Black Friday deals on soda makers
Hi Everyone, I spent this morning compiling all the Black Friday deals for the top 3 soda maker brands, Soda Stream, Ninja, and Drinkmate.
Fred Meyer has a soda stream Gaia deal for $39.99. Comes with the machine, a bottle, c02 tank, and Pepsi & Mountain Dew syrup.
I got the Art because it's low budget and has that handle. With the BF discount, it's worth it imo.

Break-even cost discussion
My daily usage pattern just using the standard 1 L bottles and Quick connect SS bottles nets out to $0.38 per L including the flavorings.
Discussion about cost savings compared to buying soda
found one that makes ANYTHING fizzy, which is right up our alley, but we still need to periodically buy the bottles of fizz to make the fizz in our drinks.
Comparisons with other soda makers
If you are already eyeing the drink mate (assuming because you like to carbonate things other than water), go for that.
Discussion on varying costs of sparkling water in different countries
I like fizzy drinks and sparkling water (1.5L bottles) cost a LOT in my country (Singapore) compared to European nations like Italy.
Discussion on buying used SodaStreams
Maybe check for used ones locally? Just did a quick Facebook marketplace search, and there are sodastreams selling for $10-20 on there.
Found our machine in Goodwill for $20, bought used bottles there as well, and bought a new CO2 canister at BB&B for another $20 or so. With store brand canned seltzer currently at around 4.00-5.00/144oz (12cans x 12oz @ $4.5 = 0.27¢/oz.) and soda stream seltzer makes about 60 30oz bottles per canister, costs are about .31¢. (.011¢/oz). Huge savings.
Discussion about the economic benefits of using SodaStream
We got one on sale recently and love it too! We drink a lot of seltzer and burned through our first two tanks pretty quick so we ended up getting some ten pound tank for it.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Comparison of carbonation quality with store brands
How close does it taste to the Plain Seltzer you buy at the store? I've gotten addicted to it and considered buying a soda machine but worry it won't taste the same.
I think it’s pretty similar, though it might depend on your water. I do find that it doesn’t hold the carbonation as long, but that’s not really an issue unless it takes you a long time to drink it.
