Snoop's Take

The Soundstream VR-624B is a Double DIN Bluetooth in-Dash DVD/CD/AM/FM Car Stereo Receiver designed to enhance your in-car entertainment experience. Featuring a 6-inch screen, it allows users to enjoy hands-free calling and wireless MP3 audio playback from their devices, making it a convenient option for modern drivers. Consumer feedback has highlighted both strengths and weaknesses of the Soundstream VR-624B. On the positive side, users have appreciated the noise reduction feature, with one stating, "I was able to fix my issue by going to Settings > System > Factory > Sound Balance > Noise Reduction." However, many users have reported issues with a constant static noise during radio use, indicating that sound quality may be a concern for some. Despite the mixed reviews, the Soundstream VR-624B is still recommended for those seeking an affordable and feature-rich car stereo option. Its Bluetooth capabilities and user-friendly interface make it a solid choice, particularly for individuals who prioritize connectivity and convenience over radio performance.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the future of head units
Almost every single new car can handle larger than a double din sized head unit now.
Most aftermarket head units would look like shit in newer cars.
I hate the 'tacked on ipad' look found in current high end vehicles.
Upgrading the stereo alone was a HUGEEE upgrade.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Concerns about installation complexity
I don't really fancy the expense and hassle of tearing out half my dash to install a proper unit.
Interest in alternative products like Cartablet
Hey Chris, I’ve used the Cartablet Pro max for a while now, and it’s great! Easy to set up, works perfectly, and no need to mess with your dash.
This looks pretty cool. Also considering it now.
Concerns about aftermarket head unit standards in modern cars
I’ve replaced the head unit in almost every single car I’ve owned over the last 20 years. Playing DVDs, running full blown Operating Systems and apps, you name it.
I replaced my non nav system with the just the radio part of the nav system, and got a faceplate for a double din entertainment system that goes where navigation screen would be, and spliced the line level right and left front channels into the head unit inputs.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Battery drain issues with Android Auto
I like it, but I learned to hate the always-on Google map for Android, so it drained my phone's battery.
