What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfortable sleeping experience in hammocks
Sleeping in a hammock is like sleeping on a cloud.
This but I am only 5 years into my hammock camping coming from years of tent camping.
My last two trips I used a hammock and I wouldn’t go back.
Currently own three Coleman Trailhead cots but really don’t like how heavy they are, how much packing room they take up, and how difficult it is to assemble.
Bug net is essential for comfort
My hammock zips up so I do not have a bug net.
Make sure you have insulation below you and no a sleeping bag isn't insulation below you.
Easy installation with included accessories
Sleeping in a tent, the bag said 4 person tent. Don’t know if that helps.
I’ve never done it without a tent. Any tips or warnings?
High quality materials used
I tried out my Dutchware half zip with a Neoair Regular Wide. It worked really well, with the exception of the pad being too plush.
Comfortable for taller users
Making the assumption that they're all good in lousy weather.
Whatever you do, make sure the hammock you get is at least 11' long or you're going to be uncomfortable.
Easy setup with included accessories
If you guys say I should spend $200 or so though I will.
Hammocks provide a more comfortable sleeping experience
Hanging in the air leaves a lot more cold wind beneath you to send a chill up your ass.
Hammocks are safe for pets
Has anyone had trouble with these hammocks? I am worried about Queso (the snake) getting stuck through his net hammock.
You’d be surprised, they can fit through impressively small holes. I’ve never had any issues with the hammocks personally.
My snake has had hers from 6 months (when she could fit through the holes) to 2 years (when she now probably can't). She's never gotten stuck.
I haven’t had any trouble with mine.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Side sleepers may find it uncomfortable
My advice sleep in a hammock someplace for a night first to see if you can do it.
If it's just me, hammock. If it's me and my wife, cots.
Budget options may be uncomfortable for taller users
Most the budget brands make sub 10' hammocks and those are only good for people below 5'4'.
Restrictions on hammock use in some campgrounds
make sure hammocks are allowed. There are some developed campgrounds that have trees, but do not allow hammocks, generally to protect trees that are more easily damaged.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Comparison of hammock components to tent setup
a lot of people forget the last 2 as a part of it, they think I can get a cheap tent on Amazon and you can also get cheap hammocks and tarps, but in a tent you need insulation as well as a hammock and that should be part of your budget.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Preference for hammocks over tents due to comfort
Hammock vs tent I've always wanted to try a hammock during the trips. Looks very relaxing and not have to worry about a soft spot for a tent.
does your hammock lay flat? I always worry about laying in a V shape.
Same! I actually only bought a tent to bring to camp grounds incase there are no trees.
Always hammock camp. I only bring a tent on trips where there is a chance of having no trees, so I never bring a tent to the BWCA.
Preference for sleeping pads in hammocks
I've also read that you don't want to fully inflate the pad when using it in a hammock.
From experience, I can say this is true.
>you don't want to fully inflate
In other words just about any pad that's about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick when inflated will do the job, even a cheap one.
Enjoyment of hammock camping experiences
You could say I forgot my tent but I look at it as surprise hammock camping
Cuddling with a dog in a hammock is one of life's greatest pelasures
I love accidental hammock camping! Happened once after running into friends on the batona trail

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Variety of price points for hammocks
And as much as I wanted that “perfect” one, I couldn’t justify spending the $700 price of that setup on something I wasn’t sure about.
a GREAT setup can be $700 plus . Tarp, Hammock (11 or 12 ft long for your height) with bugnet, top quilt, underquilt.
Preference for cots over air mattresses
I personally prefer cots. Air mattresses would be resting on the ground and cots would be higher up which would keep you warmer as well.
Given a choice, cots (army style, no springs). Topped with a proper memory foam mattress.
If you have the room the cot is superior, just throw a thin memory foam pad between you and the cot and you'll be gold.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Experiences with camping conditions
Never camped at a state park again! Forests are free anyway!
Skepticism about product reviews
best US portable tent or tarp? Portable. In the US. I don't know what's good and what's not, I don't trust the reviews because its usually from people who use the product once or twice and not in a position where they use it semi daily.
After wasting money on tents & special rain flies because of so many misleading paid reviews or reviews by people who used it once, I literally just use a utility tarp from Walmart & stakes from an old rain fly that broke.
