What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Fits crossbars nicely
These [Thule Surf Pads](https://a.co/d/0hCZTfA) fit the crossbars pretty nicely.
Use these for my surfboard & wing foil board. Works like a charm...
was wondering if anyone else had tried something like this before and if there's a reason i haven't thought of for why it would be a bad idea..?
My girlfriend windsurfs and I'm her roadie/tech guy (I mostly watch/take pics and help with the equipment). So far we've been using our 2005 Corolla for trips but it's far from ideal.
Convenient for securing boards
But when this guy asked me, I couldn’t really give a good reason as to why.
While I do think things like this aren't negligible in that it will impact gas mileage, I agree that if you have everything tied down right, your boards shouldn't fly off.
Super secure locking straps

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Mention of OEM crossbars and their weight rating
Seem to be about the best option price-wise for crossbars.
Discussion about the size of windsurf boards compared to surfboards
250L board much bigger that two surfboards . . .
Discussion about straps for securing boards
recommended Surfboard straps for roof-rack What do you recommend as a preferred set of straps for tying down board to roof-rack?
I like the 'endless cam' type straps, you can get almost anywhere.
Really liked them as they were easy to put on/off/cinch.
Prob overpriced but i like the dakine baja straps. Easy and have a neoprene part on the buckles to protect the board.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about protecting boards with bags during transport
Will definitely be bagging it up to prevent unnecessary damage
Bag it. Will protect from freeway debris and I keep nearly all my boards is bags when they’re not being used cause I have some nice ones.
In bags. And a pro tip you may or may not know if you’re just starting to use roof racks (I had to learn the hard way) was to twist the ties on the outside of the car once on each side of your boards.
All of my boards that to on top of my car are in bags, I've had too many road stones put holes in boards before I've even gotten to surf
Debate on board placement for travel
Also depends if you’re stacking multiple boards. If you’re stacking, then fins toward the front of the car - each board will be slight behind the one below it.
I've always fin front with the idea it's got less wind resistance and less force on your nose rocker and front strap.
Fins go to the front so worst case scenario if you start to lose your board on a highway hopefully the fins will catch.
Personal preferences in board positioning
I'm a kook so I have fins back.
Discussion about alternative methods for transporting surfboards without a rack
i bet it can fit inside
Dude get some soft racks. Open your doors and put them on. Close your doors. Now you have racks.
In the past I have tried creative workarounds for not having roof racks, all were pretty terrible and there is no substitution for buying roof racks which will securely attach the surfboard to the roof.
Get a few pool noodles and a looping tie strap.
Discussion on alternate transport methods
Transporting a board with a rackless roof
The way I see it you have 2 choices:
I used them for years and they are really good.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about the suitability of existing racks for motorcycles
What’s on the market seems to be focused on bicycles and mopeds, not motorcycles and motorcycle speeds.
I had the scooter one on my zzr250, it was fine. I didnt and wouldnt take it on the highway
You want to add an aerofoil to one side of a road bike? I mean, I've seen mopeds/scooters with surfboards on the side, but once you get up to 60 or even 80 K, you'll lose control.
Ride the surfboard while you ride your bike. You save money, and you ultimately become better than the rest of society
Discussion about high costs of Thule roof racks
can't I just put all the windsurf gear in the back of my car if the seats are down?
700 for a roof rack seems insane.
it works great though.
the square Thule bars are much cheaper.
Mention of alternative options to Thule racks
Get some pads and straps for $40. Will work great!.
Probably. There are “soft racks” too.
Have you looked into sea suckers? We got some for our minivan we build a camping setup into and have carried boards thousands of miles with them!
Concerns about visibility when transporting surfboards inside the vehicle
It fits inside but definitely impairs my ability to view other traffic.
I can still see over it if I need to do a lane change.
Personal experiences with fitting multiple boards and passengers in small vehicles
I honestly think you're over thinking this alot
Mention of fitting multiple boards in a car
Boards fit fine in a car such as a Subaru, I can get three boards, masts, booms and many sails in a similar sized car.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about off-road capabilities of vehicles with Thule racks
Sheesh how many pounds are up on that thing?
Unlikely to fit a 9’ longboard inside unfortunately… unless it’s a soft top and you can squish it against a window.
I was considering using cam straps and creating a sling using my roof rack that would hang down the side of the van.
Discussion on aerodynamics affecting battery drain
I get more obvious battery w no board on top vs board on top.
Aerodynamics is a BIG deal.
I’m gonna try to run an experiment and drive down w fin forward and back w fin back and check the battery drain.
Discussion on securing surfboards properly
What are the Do's and Don'ts to best secure a surfboard?
Every rack manufacturer specifically shows boards strapped down fin-forward and fin-up in their instructions, i.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vdjsJjnR5c.
Please secure your boards!!
Concerns about using soft racks
DON'T use soft/wrap racks.
