Snoop's Take

The Vitamix 5-Speed Immersion Blender is a powerful kitchen tool designed for convenient one-handed operation, allowing users to blend various ingredients directly in their cooking pots or containers. With its 625-watt motor and 5-speed settings, this immersion blender excels in creating smooth textures for soups, sauces, and smoothies, making it a versatile addition to any kitchen. Consumer sentiment is largely positive, with users praising its ability to blend ingredients efficiently and create smooth textures. One user noted, "It's the Ferrari of blenders and a true pleasure to use," highlighting its performance and quality. However, some feedback indicates that it may not achieve the same level of smoothness for soups as traditional blenders, with one remarking, "Whenever I’ve used an immersion blender for a soup, it never turns out quite as smooth as using a normal blender." Overall, the Vitamix 5-Speed Immersion Blender is highly recommended for those seeking a reliable and powerful blending solution, particularly for quick tasks and recipes that require blending in the pot. Its design and convenience make it an excellent investment for frequent users, despite some limitations with very thick ingredients or large batches.

This is it. I’ve never had a thicker base for my corn chowder than once I started blending half of and then mixing the rest together.

Positive Feedback

Whenever I’ve used an immersion blender for a soup, it never turns out quite as smooth as using a normal blender.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great for making smooth soups
This is it. I’ve never had a thicker base for my corn chowder than once I started blending half of and then mixing the rest together.
Versatile for various recipes like salad dressings and mayo
I find my immersion blender isn't good enough for smooth soups, it does great for mayo, smoothies, dressings among other things, but not soups.
Worth the investment for frequent use
Are Vitamix blenders worth the cost? My Ninja blender that I’ve had for 10 years is finally showing its age.
Great for making smooth textures
Yes. It's the Ferrari of blenders and a true pleasure to use.
Versatile for various recipes
Yes it's so worth it if your cooking involves smoothies, soups, sauces, etc.
High power motor enhances blending
It’s far more powerful and will last far longer. If your budget can accommodate a Vitamix it’s worth the investment.
Convenient for blending hot soups directly in the pot
Having to pour a bunch of hot soup into a blender is a hassle. Immersion blender worth it for that alone.
Easily. It's so much easier to use, just sticking it in the pot you're already cooking stuff in.
Powerful motor for effective blending
The end product is a bit smoother, but it also doesn't heat up as much and has multiple speeds.
I am wondering if that is a better bet.
It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the knack, it’s a big time saver.
I am finding the immersion blender more convenient for soups and sauces.
Impressive size and design compared to other models
Wow, the Immersi-prep is an impressive machine. I have never seen an immersion blender that massive.
Convenient for blending soups and small batches
My immersion blender just sucks.
More frequently used than jar blenders
The jar blender sits in the cupboard most of the time. I use the immersion blender more.
Durable and long-lasting
We have a Cuisinart we got for our wedding 11 years ago and I swear it still looks brand new.
We have a Cuisinart from about 15 years ago and same.
I use my Cuisinart from 2009 several times per week. I love it and it still works perfectly and looks brand new.
Adding another vote for Cuisinart. I have had my immersion blender for 10 years.
Excellent blending quality and texture
My Vitamix turns chia seeds into butter.
The vitamix destroys everything though. As you say, the consistency is amazing.
And silky smooth.
Efficient for making smoothies
A smoothie is done in less than a minute.
The less liquid you use the better.
Great for making nut milks and smoothies
but it’s not great at everything.
A vitamix is great for nut milks, smoothies, sauces, but not for things that are more solid than liquid.
High quality and versatile for various recipes
Vitamix is high quality, has a lifetime warranty, and blitzes a frozen banana into a smooth smoothie in about 4 seconds.
Works well for making smoothies
My Vitamix immersion blender makes excellent smoothies. 💯
Convenient for blending directly in containers
I'd think getting the Vitamix hand blender would be the best option if that were the case.
Great for making puréed soups
The one thing a blender really excels at is puréed soups.
Vitamix is for if you want something insanely smooth.
Easy to use for various tasks
I've got all three and the one I use the most, by a huge margin, is the stick blender.
Convenient for making hummus directly in the serving bowl
saving much cleaning time, and can safely churn it to draw chickpeas into the blade with hand motions.
Thanks so much, it didn’t even occur to me to try my immersion, just always defaulting to Vitamix.
Convenient for puréeing soups
Immersion blender vs regular blender? Do you think that an immersion blender is capable of doing everything a regular blender can?
It depends on what you want to blend. An immersion blender is super handy, but it will never crush ice, blend and cook a perfectly smooth soup or get you completely smooth smoothie.
Super handy for quick blending tasks
Immersion blenders are really more of a convenience tool.
Convenient container size
It is of course $100+ for the extra container but I love it.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Not as effective for very smooth soups
Whenever I’ve used an immersion blender for a soup, it never turns out quite as smooth as using a normal blender.
Powerful motor can cause splatter
When I first got mine, my sister warned me. My Braun immersion blender is like an outboard motor, and I am glad I tried it out on just plain water first.
Loud operation
and love that thing but damn it’s loud.
Less effective on very thick ingredients compared to a regular blender
If your blender struggles with drier ingredients, you might need a better blender.
Not ideal for very large batches without chunks
I don't think you're going to get Vitamix blender consistency with a home use stick blender for that larger 20L consistency, unless you want to be over the pot for a long time.
Overlap in function with other kitchen appliances
There’s very little use for a hand mixer if you have a stand mixer and there’s naturally a ton of overlap between a blender and an immersion blender too.
Fatiguing to use for home cooks
The Vitamix is a tank, but is almost fatiguing to use as a home cook.
Less effective on very thick ingredients
Works well with spinach though and other fresh or frozen fruit I’ve tried like strawberries, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, avocado and it’ll take fruit from frozen to smoothie in less than 30 seconds on level 2-3 speed which is impressive.
Can be hard to handle due to weight
How heavy is it? Some of the reviews say it is a bit hard to handle.
High price compared to alternatives
Never in my life have I seen such resounding praise of any product, ever.
Can be difficult to clean
If I could stuff a ninja into a vitamix to destroy it without hurting the vitamix I would
Not ideal for making very smooth smoothies
Immersion blenders do not make good smoothies in my experience. This one has worked well
Limited for making smooth textures
An immersion blender is never going to make you a proper smoothie.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Casual mentions of other blenders without specific product comparisons.
forbidden magic wand
Discussion about Vitamix model differences
Any full size Vitamix blends the same.
The lowest end one has an ever so slightly (like <10%) weaker motor, but the others are all the same.
Interesting insights on blade types
When I did a comparison shopping, one of the big differences between the two is the Vitamix uses blunt blades while the Ninja uses multiple ultra sharp blades.
That’s so interesting. So it must be the power that make the vitamix better if blades are dull.
General discussion about other brands
I’ve had a Bamix for 20 years. It works perfectly.
It's not been used daily, but it's still kicking butt, and gets weekly use now.
Discussion on smoothie consistency
Sometimes it's a wee bit difficult to down it.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users frequently share recipes and meal ideas.
I'm impressed you are using it daily. What delicious foods are you making everyday?
Banana pancake with blueberries.
Right? I’d like to know too! I only use mine for smoothies some mornings
Users share unique blending strategies
Prefect texture!
If you really want a smooth soup or sauce, use a chinoise strainer or similar fine mesh strainer.
Casual mentions of using immersion blender for milkshakes
I can't believe no one has said personal milkshakes! If you use a large enough cup/glass, you can mix it right in the cup and then rinse off the immersion blender.
Casual mentions of food preparation techniques
My grandma says the blood makes it taste better.
Discussion on using immersion blenders versus traditional smoothie blenders
I recommended her to get a Vitamix smoothie blender over the hand blender.
Discussion about the utility of food processors vs immersion blenders
Immersion blenders seem to be one kitchen appliance where buying a cheaper one doesn't seem to matter.
Discussion on blending techniques
It's a pain to have to run it through a few cycles or stop it mid-cycle to mix it.

Discussion about the longevity of other immersion blenders
While it saved the day then, it’s completely unresponsive now.
I’ve had a Braun for over 20 years, use it all the time.
Still works like a champ. I’m not sure if new Braun's work as good as old ones but my old one is a monster.
None of us have managed to break it after a decade.
Casual mentions of comparing Ninja and Vitamix
Vitamix is the hands down winner in my book.
Just wondering about it compared to a Ninja blender.
Discussion on the differences in blending techniques and tools
Yeah, I didn't think I would. But definitely.
Too much tool, too much price, not enough need, but it’s really love.
What do one really use their regular blender for?
Discussion about blending techniques and preferences
Robot Coupe makes a killer one. The industry standard.
Have you looked into Bamix? Easily my favorite stick blender.
Discussion on the necessity of multiple kitchen appliances
I feel like each one has a “killer app” that the others can’t do.
For making hummus bi tahini (by far my most common use for a blender), an immersion blender allows one to prep the dish in the storage bowl.
Cleaning tips for immersion blenders
you can put soap and hot water in the blender and run it. Does most of the cleaning for you.
Comparison of Vitamix's performance to other brands
It did not even fair well when compared to other models.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on health concerns related to hand blenders
Stop using immersion blenders? Curious to know peoples thoughts on this study, I use a hand blender for my babies food and now I’m concerned.
If hand blenders are this bad, then do I want to know about store-bought purees or any pre-processed food for that matter?
After reading the article, it seems to be a problem with the design of hand blenders and how the self lubricated bearing part gets contaminated with the food.
The blenders tested were all from more than 10 years ago and there were only 12 of them and all from Sweden.
Discussion about the safety of plastic vs glass jars in blenders
And I am certainly not going to pay $400 to $600 on a Vitamix and then have to shell out even more money for a glass jar, that should be default.
Because plastic is cheap and easy to form. It's safe to use for anything you'd need to put into it for blending.
Not safe, if it gives off microplastics and other toxic chemicals into your foods.
Deemed safe by the NSF. Good enough for me.
Discussion on textural issues with blending potatoes
Blenders can burst the starch capsules in potatoes leading to a gluey texture.
No amount of cream or butter was saving them.
the gluey texture gives it a velvety mouth feel.
Users expressing brand loyalty to Braun
Braun is the best.
Concerns about plastic leaching in hand blenders
Majority of hand-blenders leech plasticizers directly into blended food
another post here had recommended stainless steel hand blenders as a way to avoid using plastic blenders
am I correct in assuming that I doesn't matter if your hand/immersion blender is metal or plastic, the problem is stuff leaking out of the blender into the food
Please someone just tell me what blender/food processor I should get that doesn’t have plastic.
Users share experiences with other types of blenders
I didn't realize how much difference it can be between a first-price blender and a premium one until I read some of the comments.
Vitamex is very popular, and they honestly aren't bad, but their jars are not designed as well they could be.
I kind of want one, Y’know?
User experiences with blender longevity
Still blends smoothly like brand new except you gotta be careful not to overfill it now because it might over heat.
Concerns about plastic coating and potential scratching
The plastic coating on the bell of the immersion blender I wanted to get a Vitamix immersion blender but noticed it has plastic coating on the bell.
The contact points with the pot are stainless, which leaves metal transfer or scratches on enamel.
Discussion on the necessity of different blending appliances
I’ve never used it to be honest.
By far the best value for space efficiency and cost.
