What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Instant hot water dispensing
I’ve had both. I prefer the Zojurushi because it instantly dispenses hot water.
Does our water boiler hotter somehow, or do we just prefer crunchy noodles?
Ability to set desired water temperature
I believe you can set the temp you'd like.
Incredibly convenient and durable
I've had a Zojirushi for 5 years now. Trust me - it's incredibly convenient and durable and you'll save so much time.
I smiled because you are right because I do use my Zojirushi more than my undergrad degree; and then I was sad because I do use my Zojirushi more than my undergrad degree.
Versatile uses for boiling water
No kidding! And not just for tea.
Durable and easy to maintain
Turns out to be the Omron relay, which is still produced and available on Digikey.
Reliable performance over time
My Zoji has settings for several different types of rice, and has performed flawlessly at least twice a week since 2006.
I had my prior zojirushi for 15 years and I just gave it away because it wouldn’t die and I wanted the newer one with neuro fuzzy
I never like the rice made in my Instant Pot (another gift 😁).
If you want an easy to use and reliable rice cooker for perfectly cooked brown and and white rice save the money and get the Zojirushi.
Exceptional rice cooking quality
Not only does it do rice perfectly every time, it stays warm without toasting it, and I can program it to start cooking at the right time for dinner too.
It’s genuinely exceptional from the Z and I’d never be able to go back.
Durability and long lifespan
Lasted him 15 years, until he donated it to the office to get the bigger model
25 years and probably 2500 batches of rice later, and it looks brand new.
Enjoyable sound alert for completion
I like the little song it plays when the rice is done.
It plays a cute little jingle when the water is ready
Time-saving for formula prep
it has been such a time saver.
Useful for tea and coffee drinkers
Assuming we kept the water temp high (like 195, which is still a sterilizing temperature), and then let it cool to the temperature the formula recommends after dispensing and before mixing, are these fine and safe to use for formula prep?
Effective descaling with citric acid
It's a white powder used in cooking (non-toxic!) and is incredibly effective at descaling calcium and lime buildup like what you have here.
It has a cleaning mode.
Same thing. I just use generic citric acid to descale my stuff, no matter the brand.
Just as effective, but no vinegar smell!
Incredibly useful kitchen appliance
I found this Zojirushi water boiler at the thrift store today for $10!! I just stopped and thought “no way”
worth its weight in gold. I have one and it's one of my most used appliances.
Common household item in Asia
It’s really interesting to see an all-English interface on the machine since they usually comes with Japanese.
White vinegar is effective for descaling
Worked like a charm
Good customer service experience
They respond quickly and has accommodated most of my requests.
Long-term reliability when left on 24/7
I just bought the VE hybrid model but I’m not sure whether leaving it on all the time would be ok
Mine has been on for five years.
High-quality product reputation
Zojirushi produxts are great, historically speaking.
In my experience Japanese manufacturers always seem to have a “let’s make the best product we possibly can” mindset so I don’t think they’re going to cheap out soon.
Zojirushi products are still amazing.
Convenient for constant supply of hot water
It's awesome having hot water at the perfect temp whenever I want it.
I use it to poach vegetables, water down homemade soup concentrates and stocks, ect.
Easy to clean and maintain
And it is super easy to clean too.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Water may not be hot enough for some users
the water dispenser water is not hot enough, have you run into this?
High price may deter potential buyers
it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
Issues with rust and buildup reported
Has anyone else had issues with rust and build up on their Zojirushi water heaters?
Maybe try their stainless steel inner tube model.
Need for daily cleaning to ensure safety
You're supposed to dump and clean it daily per the manual.
Uncertainty about achieving boiling temperature
Does the boiler reach boiling temperature each time (to kill the bacteria ) and then it will reach and maintain the set temperature say for 160 to make formula?
Regular cleaning needed to prevent buildup
Is there a good way to clean up the lime and rust buildup? I tried the white vinegar approach and it didn't okay, but wondering if there is a better method.
mine has to cleaned every month or 2 because i can see the little floaties inside my mug
Concerns about safety when left on continuously
No, I have one on my desk and I turn it on in the morning and pull the plug before I leave. It probably could stand up to running 24/7 for some while, but why, if I'm not using it?
Concerns about product quality over time
It was also the only vaccum sealed model, which meant that it would save me money on electricity in the long run.
High price may deter buyers
Thanks, that is a very useful item, but it's a bit beyond my price range and the large weight and footprint make it undesirable for hauling to the living room.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Mention of differing linings in newer Zojirushi products
Thanks, I'll look for it. Their newer stuff seems to be with this grey lining, to include a thermos we got.
Curiosity about rice preservation in cookers
Do you just leave the rice in the cooker for a whole day/overnight? I sometimes do that and the rice is always awful after (with a cheaper one)
Cultural significance of Zojirushi in Japan
I’ve never had to use customer service for Zojirushi. I’ve never heard of Cuckoo, but growing up, everyone had Zojirushi and it never failed anyone.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Preference for alternatives to electric warmers
I've recently started a new job, I'm hybrid, but usually spend only 1-2 days a week in the office.
Might be better just getting a thermos? They would keep it hot for several hours and are a lot cheaper than electric warmers.
Yes, a yeti or whatever insulated mug is a better idea. I exclusively drink coffee from a yeti at home and love it.
I've got a few Contigo travel mugs that keep drinks warm all day and as a bonus they're spill proof since the opening is spring loaded and closes as soon as you release the button.

Discussion on preferences between hot water dispensers and electric kettles
Which would you rather have?
Thoughts?
Discussion on cooking methods and preferences
My mum and boiled carrots would surely be a contender, but I’d never bet against a Brit.
Did they think that vegetables were deadly poisonous unless they boiled them into submission back then?
Boil 'til it's grey, and the germs go away!
The most underrated comment of the day!
Discussion on alternatives to Zojirushi
Zojirushi heaters are definitely the cadillac of water heaters and for good reason.
It has 4 temperature settings and heats up the water fairly quickly.
Inquiry about cleaning procedures involving citric acid
Is citric acid part of the recommended cleaning procedure?
Discussions about cleaning and maintenance techniques
It’s just dried water.
They’ll be way worse, if it bothers you that much vinegar or citric, or just put water in it and use it.
Discussion on the value of higher-end rice cookers versus cheaper models
I just can’t imagine there’s much room for improvement there, so do people buy them for longevity?
Discussion on cleaning methods for water boilers
Thanks. I have pounds of citric acid (wife made bath bombs once with it and have tons leftover), so I'll give it a try tonight.
Discussion about cleaning procedures
My Zojirushi water heater needed a descaling, normally I would match brand name to brand name, or obvious imagery (such as the typical design of a water heater) However my local store only had this product in stock.
Comparison of Zojirushi and Cuckoo brands
Cuckoo rice cookers are to Korea what Zojirushi rice cookers are to Japan.
Yes Zojirushi has more global influence because they sell massive numbers in China and Taiwan and US, but Cuckoo is highly recommended in a lot of reviews too.
Comparison of user experiences with different models
I like how I won't run the risk of dripping hot water on my feet like when I had a kettle.
Did you get the vevor? How's it holding up?
Discussion on comparing Zojirushi with other options
I am considering whether I might want to either get a thermos which also heats the water when plugged in (in which case, it would need to accept a temperature setting) or one I can just fill up with my electric kettle.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about longevity of different Zojirushi models
We’ve had our zoji since 2001… never had a rust issue!
Humorous take on reincarnation as a rice cooker
Because if I treat it well, when I die, I might be reincarnated in a different world as a zojirushi rice cooker.
Concerns about cancer warning on packaging
something about P65…?
Thanks for breaking it down for me.
As long as you don’t floss with it after eating your delicious rice, I’d think you should be fine
Discussion about finding Zojirushi at thrift stores
I was at the thrift store today and saw this Zojirushi boiler just sitting on the floor. I’ve been wanting to buy one for the past few years, but I couldn’t justify the price tag since I’m a student and I don’t really need it… until I found it for $10! My expectations were super low and I wasn’t expecting it to even work, but I cleaned it with vinegar inside and it’s working great!!! It has temperature options too
Discussion about where products are manufactured
Really? Because i have the 1hp one and its been fantastic.
