What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Instant hot water dispensing
Which would you rather have? I know that people from the UK like to make fun of Americans for not having electric kettles as a standard kitchen item, but I’ve never seen discussion on which type of device is better than the other.
I’ve had both. I prefer the Zojurushi because it instantly dispenses hot water.
Adjustable temperature settings
I believe you can set the temp you'd like. They liked this feature since the landlord was interested in making perfect pourovers.
Convenient and durable
I've had a Zojirushi for 5 years now. Trust me - it's incredibly convenient and durable and you'll save so much time.
I do use my Zojirushi more than my undergrad degree; and then I was sad because I do use my Zojirushi more than my undergrad degree.
Zojirushi heaters are definitely the cadillac of water heaters and for good reason.
Multiple uses for boiling water
No kidding! And not just for tea.
High-quality engineering and features
Zojirushi produxts are great, historically speaking.
In my experience Japanese manufacturers always seem to have a “let’s make the best product we possibly can” mindset.
Durable stainless steel interior
never had a rust issue! Huh.
Durability of the product
Turns out to be the Omron relay, which is still produced and available on Digikey.
Easy to clean with descaling options
It’s just water scale nbd. Wash it out with water and use a descaler like vinegar if water doesn't remove it.
Look at the inside of any coffee maker or kettle. They’ll be way worse, if it bothers you that much vinegar or citric, or just put water in it and use it.
Reliable performance with multiple rice types
My kids use it all the time and love the little song when it's done.
It does rice perfectly every time, it stays warm without toasting it, and I can program it to start cooking at the right time for dinner too.
Durability and long lifespan
I had my prior zojirushi for 15 years and I just gave it away because it wouldn’t die and I wanted the newer one with neuro fuzzy
Convenient keep warm feature
It's perpetually hot, like it was just finished cooking.
High-quality rice cooking experience
Do you just leave the rice in the cooker for a whole day/overnight? I sometimes do that and the rice is always awful after (with a cheaper one)
I also started with a $20 cooker. I didn’t know the rice wasn’t great then. It’s genuinely exceptional from the Z and I’d never be able to go back.
Positive user experience with sound alerts
I like the little song it plays when the rice is done.
Time-saving for formula prep
I have been using the zojirushi for formula prep for the past couple weeks and it has been such a time saver.
Power-friendly alternative to kettles
Assuming we kept the water temp high (like 195, which is still a sterilizing temperature), and then let it cool to the temperature the formula recommends after dispensing and before mixing, are these fine and safe to use for formula prep?
Effective cleaning method using citric acid
It's a white powder used in cooking (non-toxic!) and is incredibly effective at descaling calcium and lime buildup like what you have here.
It has a cleaning mode.
Highly valued and frequently used appliance
worth its weight in gold. I have one and it's one of my most used appliances.
Positive user experience with low expectations exceeded
My expectations were super low and I wasn’t expecting it to even work, but I cleaned it with vinegar inside and it’s working great!!!
Effective descaling methods using citric acid
My Zojirushi water heater needed a descaling, normally I would match brand name to brand name, or obvious imagery (such as the typical design of a water heater)
I just use generic citric acid to descale my stuff, no matter the brand
I use citric acid. Just as effective, but no vinegar smell!
White vinegar is a successful descaling method
Worked like a charm
Consistent quality of rice
If you want an easy to use and reliable rice cooker for perfectly cooked brown and and white rice save the money and get the Zojirushi.
Reliable customer service experience
They respond quickly and has accommodated most of my requests.
Durable performance over time
Mine has been on for five years.
The machine works just as the day I bought it, have been using it for 3 years.
I do and have for over a year. No issues as of yet.
Yup. I keep it on 175/195 most of the time. I did the same with my last one, and the lid was the only thing that gave out after 7-10 years.
Long-lasting product reputation
Lasted him 15 years, until he donated it to the office to get the bigger model.
25 years and probably 2500 batches of rice later, and it looks brand new.
Cute alert sound when water is ready
It plays a cute little jingle when the water is ready
Convenient hot water access for multiple uses
It's awesome having hot water at the perfect temp whenever I want it.
I use it to poach vegetables, water down homemade soup concentrates and stocks, ect.
Easy to clean and maintain
And it is super easy to clean too.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Water may not be hot enough
the water dispenser water is not hot enough, have you run into this?
Expensive compared to other brands
I have the money right now, but I'll shortly be putting myself into debt for grad school--it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
Rust build-up issues reported
Has anyone else had issues with rust and build up on their Zojirushi water heaters?
Need for daily cleaning
We're rinse and wipe ours out nightly before refilling it with fresh water.
Needs frequent cleaning due to buildup
mine has to cleaned every month or 2 because i can see the little floaties inside my mug
Lower-end models may not meet expectations
I'm not saying for certain that made in China is worse, just that some of their units are definitely built to a price.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Comparison of model longevity
Maybe try their stainless steel inner tube model.
Thanks, I'll look for it. Their newer stuff seems to be with this grey lining, to include a thermos we got.
Humorous take on brand loyalty and product longevity
Because if I treat it well, when I die, I might be reincarnated in a different world as a zojirushi rice cooker.
Discussion about Zojirushi's popularity
I’ve never had to use customer service for Zojirushi. I’ve never heard of Cuckoo, but growing up, everyone had Zojirushi and it never failed anyone.
Cuckoo rice cookers are to Korea what Zojirushi rice cookers are to Japan.
Yes Zojirushi has more global influence because they sell massive numbers in China and Taiwan and US, but Cuckoo is highly recommended in a lot of reviews too.
Willingness to leave on 24/7 without issues
People who have the zojirushi water boiler: do you leave it on 24/7? I just bought the VE hybrid model but I’m not sure whether leaving it on all the time would be ok
No, I have one on my desk and I turn it on in the morning and pull the plug before I leave.
Discussion on alternatives like electric kettles
I like how I won't run the risk of dripping hot water on my feet like when I had a kettle.

Discussion about cleaning methods
Is citric acid part of the recommended cleaning procedure?
Preference for thermos or insulated mugs over electric warmers
Might be better just getting a thermos? They would keep it hot for several hours and are a lot cheaper than electric warmers.
Yes, a yeti or whatever insulated mug is a better idea. I exclusively drink coffee from a yeti at home and love it.
I've got a few Contigo travel mugs that keep drinks warm all day and as a bonus they're spill proof since the opening is spring loaded and closes as soon as you release the button.
I use a cheap one, great idea, keeps the coffee nice and hot.
Discussion on how to use the keep warm feature effectively
the regular keep warm setting, or the extended keep warm setting? I need to try this.
Discussion on cleaning techniques for lime and rust
Is there a good way to clean up the lime and rust buildup?
Thanks. I have pounds of citric acid (wife made bath bombs once with it and have tons leftover), so I'll give it a try tonight.
Common household appliance in Asia, available at thrift stores
It’s really interesting to see an all-English interface on the machine since they usually comes with Japanese.
Discussion about the practicality and weight of the product
Thanks, that is a very useful item, but it's a bit beyond my price range and the large weight and footprint make it undesirable for hauling to the living room.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about the longevity and reliability of Zojirushi products
I cut one of the mugs sealing rings in a weird kitchen incident and was able to get the specific, exact part and *only* that part from them.
Inquiries about boiling temperature for safety
Does the boiler reach boiling temperature each time (to kill the bacteria ) and then it will reach and maintain the set temperature say for 160 to make formula?
Concern about cancer warning on packaging
something about P65…? I’m assuming this is nothing to worry about or are y’all just down to knowingly get cancer and reproductive harm…?
Confusion about safety of product materials
I think (and I could definitely be mistaken) that this refers to the rubberized/plastic power cord.
Excitement about using new product
Thanks for breaking it down for me. Gonna give my new beauty a wipe and use today!
Cultural significance of water boilers in Japan
Having a machine that can heat and hold water at different temperatures for different types of tea, and even pour over coffee has become irreplaceable in my house.
