What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Instant hot water dispensing
I’ve had both. I prefer the Zojurushi because it instantly dispenses hot water.
Absolutely! Thank you!
Customizable temperature settings
I believe you can set the temp you'd like. They liked this feature since the landlord was interested in making perfect pourovers.
Versatile uses beyond tea
No kidding! And not just for tea.
Durable and long-lasting
My parents have a Zojirushi Micom and it's going 5+ years without issue.
We’ve had our zoji since 2001… never had a rust issue!
I had my prior zojirushi for 15 years and I just gave it away because it wouldn’t die and I wanted the newer one with neuro fuzzy.
Excellent rice cooking results
Not only does it do rice perfectly every time, it stays warm without toasting it, and I can program it to start cooking at the right time for dinner too.
It’s genuinely exceptional from the Z and I’d never be able to go back.
Convenience of keep warm feature
It's perpetually hot, like it was just finished cooking.
Time-saving for formula prep
it has been such a time saver.
Power-friendly alternative to kettles
Assuming we kept the water temp high (like 195, which is still a sterilizing temperature), and then let it cool to the temperature the formula recommends after dispensing and before mixing, are these fine and safe to use for formula prep?
Highly valued appliance
worth its weight in gold. I have one and it's one of my most used appliances.
Common household appliance in Asia
It’s really interesting to see an all-English interface on the machine since they usually comes with Japanese.
Durability and long-lasting performance
No issues as of yet.
The machine works just as the day I bought it, have been using it for 3 years.
I did the same with my last one, and the lid was the only thing that gave out after 7-10 years.
Convenience of leaving it on 24/7
Mine has been on for five years.
Same here, except for a few times when I was out of town.
Durability and long lifespan
Lasted him 15 years, until he donated it to the office to get the bigger model.
25 years and probably 2500 batches of rice later, and it looks brand new.
Consistent quality and performance
I see their products being used for decades.
Japanese manufacturers always seem to have a “let’s make the best product we possibly can” mindset.
Enjoyable user experience with features
It plays a cute little jingle when the water is ready
Instant hot water availability
It's awesome having hot water at the perfect temp whenever I want it.
I use it to poach vegetables, water down homemade soup concentrates and stocks, etc.
Easy to clean design
And it is super easy to clean too.
Highly recommended for tea enthusiasts
If you’re serious about tea, boiling water, keeping it at temp, and want to make an investment zojirushi vacuum water boilers are god tier and I would highly recommend.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Water temperature may not be hot enough
the water dispenser water is not hot enough, have you run into this?
Need for daily cleaning and maintenance
You're supposed to dump and clean it daily per the manual.
Need for frequent cleaning due to buildup
Is there a good way to clean up the lime and rust buildup? I tried the white vinegar approach and it didn't okay, but wondering if there is a better method.
mine has to cleaned every month or 2 because i can see the little floaties inside my mug
Concerns about safety when left on continuously
It probably could stand up to running 24/7 for some while, but why, if I'm not using it?
Concerns over manufacturing quality
I'm not saying for certain that made in China is worse, just that some of their units are definitely built to a price.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Cultural preferences for vegetable cooking methods
Does our water boiler hotter somehow, or do we just prefer crunchy noodles?
My mum and boiled carrots would surely be a contender, but I’d never bet against a Brit.
My friend's Nana used to put the cauliflower, peas, carrots and cabbage on to boil *at the same time that she put the roast in the oven* They were literally cooked until they were a fart-smelling grey slurry.
Boil 'til it's grey, and the germs go away!
User experience with longevity of the product
Turns out to be the Omron relay, which is still produced and available on Digikey.
Discussion on the efficiency of electric heaters
AFAIK.
Heat pump? Yes it is way better than the coils.
It's literally an object you plug in and that's it.
It’s an absolute pack of lies.
Preference for kettle shape for easier pouring
Ideally, I would like something more kettle-shaped for easy poring from a short height.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Using alternative descaling methods
My Zojirushi water heater needed a descaling, normally I would match brand name to brand name, or obvious imagery.
You don't need to match brand names. This looks like it's made for descaling a kettle.
I descaled mine by filling it half with white vinegar half water, letting it come to boil, and then draining on the slow setting.
I use citric acid. Just as effective, but no vinegar smell!
Discussion about other water heating methods
Lol. Came here to recommend Bradford White, then saw what subreddit I was actually on.
I just got the INTASTING kettle. It has temperature control down to the degree and keeps warm.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Debate over cost vs. utility
it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
Discussion on cleaning procedures
Is citric acid part of the recommended cleaning procedure?
Descaling advice for maintenance
It’s just water scale nbd. Wash it out with water and use a descaler like vinegar if water doesn't remove it.
Look at the inside of any coffee maker or kettle. They’ll be way worse, if it bothers you that much vinegar or citric, or just put water in it and use it.
Debate over the necessity of expensive rice cookers
I just can’t imagine there’s much room for improvement there, so do people buy them for longevity? Or is there really some kind of magic in a Zojirushi that gives you Ambrosia-level rice with every use?
Use of citric acid for descaling
It's a white powder used in cooking (non-toxic!) and is incredibly effective at descaling calcium and lime buildup like what you have here.
It has a cleaning mode.
Thanks. I have pounds of citric acid (wife made bath bombs once with it and have tons leftover), so I'll give it a try tonight.
Experience of finding a great deal
I found this Zojirushi water boiler at the thrift store today for $10!! I just stopped and thought “no way”
I was at the thrift store today and saw this Zojirushi boiler just sitting on the floor. I’ve been wanting to buy one for the past few years, but I couldn’t justify the price tag since I’m a student and I don’t really need it… until I found it for $10! My expectations were super low and I wasn’t expecting it to even work, but I cleaned it with vinegar inside and it’s working great!!! It has temperature options too
Discussion about usage frequency and habits
I just bought the VE hybrid model but I’m not sure whether leaving it on all the time would be ok
Mention of other brands and products
This is what I use daily upstairs.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Cultural preferences for hot water devices
Which would you rather have? I know that people from the UK like to make fun of Americans for not having electric kettles as a standard kitchen item, but I’ve never seen discussion on which type of device is better than the other.
Boiler and water heaters installed by myself at the age of 20. Thoughts?
Variability in experiences with different models
Maybe try their stainless steel inner tube model.
Thanks, I'll look for it. Their newer stuff seems to be with this grey lining, to include a thermos we got.
Discussion on alternatives to electric warmers
I try to be mindful when buying new things and try to buy only things I know won't end up in the cupboard/donation box after two weeks.
Might be better just getting a thermos? They would keep it hot for several hours and are a lot cheaper than electric warmers.
Yes, a yeti or whatever insulated mug is a better idea. I exclusively drink coffee from a yeti at home and love it.
I've got a few Contigo travel mugs that keep drinks warm all day and as a bonus they're spill proof since the opening is spring loaded and closes as soon as you release the button.
Cultural preferences for rice cookers
We do have quite a bit of Zojirushi brand thermos and soup bento thermos in my house.
Discussion about boiling temperature for safety
Does the boiler reach boiling temperature each time (to kill the bacteria ) and then it will reach and maintain the set temperature say for 160 to make formula?
Concern over cancer and reproductive harm warning
something about P65…? I’m assuming this is nothing to worry about or are y’all just down to knowingly get cancer and reproductive harm…?
Thanks for breaking it down for me. Gonna give my new beauty a wipe and use today!
As long as you don’t floss with it after eating your delicious rice, I’d think you should be fine
Cultural significance of hot water devices
Having a machine that can heat and hold water at different temperatures for different types of tea, and even pour over coffee has become irreplaceable in my house.
