Consumer feedback highlights the effectiveness of these inserts, with many users noting their absorbency and ease of washing. As one satisfied customer stated, "They definitely hold more pee!" Additionally, the versatility of these inserts has been appreciated, with parents reporting successful use for both daytime and nighttime needs, stating, "I’d say we had an 80% no leak success rate this way." Overall, despite some concerns regarding fit and potential leaking issues, the majority of users recommend the ALVABABY Microfiber Inserts as a reliable choice for cloth diapering, especially for those new to the practice.

They definitely hold more pee!

Positive Feedback

Change more often (about max every 2 hrs unless asleep), and consider a natural fiber insert that absorbs faster, like cotton/prefolds!.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Highly absorbent material
They definitely hold more pee!
I have a little experience with reusable diapers. One comment that I heard a mom say was she tried several different brands before settling on one.
Very rarely had any leaks and no issues cleaning anything.
I would really love to be able to jump onto cotton candy and fucking sunshine!!
Microfiber inserts are highly absorbent
Follow anyone on insta who mainly posts about decor (then more will be suggested). Most of them link to Amazon and have a post about ‘how I achieve super fluffy bedding’.
It’s this. You put in two inserts.
No issues with leaks
And the Amazon ones are worth it? I’m definitely going with the double up and possibly sewing them together.
Easy to wash and clean
Loved our system super easy to use, wash, clean & decently affordable.
Comfortable to use
I was also worried about being grossed out, but I have become very comfortable with baby pee and poop after becoming a mom lol.
Easy to use covers
I only use Alvababy pockets, I like how easy they are and our first child is almost 2.
Helpful for filling out diaper collection
Having this pack of diapers to fill out my collection has actually been a godsend actually.
Effective layering improves absorbency
Put 2 inserts in the pocket. A microfiber insert on top for quick absorbance, and a bamboo insert on the bottom for holding maximum amounts of liquid.
I do exactly what others have described (Alvababy microfibre on top & Little Lamb double bamboo booster on the bottom, both in the pocket) & it works 99% of the time :)
Comfortable fit when properly adjusted
Make sure you are tucking the diaper into baby’s leg creases, kinda like underwear fits into our leg creases.
Reusable and versatile
We use the regular microfiber that came with the diapers.
Good starting point for cloth diapering
Thanks!
Unsolicited tip: start cloth before you finish the disposables, so if everything goes wrong you've got a tried and true solution to fall back on!
Effective for daytime use without leaks
I recommend investing in some cotton simply because cotton is so easy to clean and very forgiving.
Good amount for washing every 2 days
Your amount sounds perfect for washing every 2 days, and you'll probably have enough of a buffer to have clean diapers all day on wash day as your baby gets older.
The inserts are fine for me. No blowouts or rashes/etc.
Works fine for some users
30 diapers for laundry every two days is great!
Fits well for nighttime use
Are there any nighttime specific diapers for cloth babies that soak through two inserts?
I’d say we had a 80% no leak success rate this way.
She makes it 12+ hours in two 4-layer bamboo/microfiber combo inserts from Alva.
My 6 month old wakes up dry most after 10ish hours.
Versatile insert usage based on baby needs
Am I supposed to use two at once, or were they just giving me extra inserts?
It depends on your baby. My 21 month old can still use just a single microfiber insert during the day, but requires more bulk at night.
I think depending on your baby's age and size, you can get away with using 1 insert up to 6 months, but they might need more when they get bigger.
We only stuff in 1 insert at a time unless we need the extra absorption, like long car rides over 2 hrs if we weren’t planning on stopping or at night.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Leaking issues reported
Change more often (about max every 2 hrs unless asleep), and consider a natural fiber insert that absorbs faster, like cotton/prefolds!.
The microfiber is susceptible to something called “compression leaks.”
Frequent leaks reported
Highly highly recommend green mountain diaper cotton prefolds. They are high quality and super absorbent.
Issues with leaks reported
No leaks but she developed a rash on her groin skin fold areas.
Alva inserts (both micro and hemp) are very thin and don't hold much.
Diapers may be too big for some babies
the diapers were too big on my son. Apparently the alvababy diapers are pretty big in comparison and there were gaps around the thighs.
Microfiber inserts can irritate baby's skin
I’ve never cloth diapered before and I’m learning!
If those are microfiber inserts, they are NEVER to go against babies skin unless you want red baboon newborn butt.
microfiber isnt great against babies skin.
it can severely irritate baby's skin.
Leaking issues at night
I'm having the same issue with my alvas! Following to see what others say.
Fit can be confusing for some users
Thanks! Fit is a confusing issue for us in general :(
Need for extra absorption for heavy wetters
So what's better than microfiber for heavy wetters, bamboo?

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Different types of inserts have varying materials
The majority have a bath towel type feel but some are a softer material.
If it’s ribbed and the tag is the logo sewn in a corner then it’s microfiber.
The softer ones maybe cotton.
In general, if you wet them and can squeeze them dry by wringing in your hands, safe bet it is microfiber.
Natural fiber insert suggestions
I have some alvas and use a hemp liner coupled with microfiber and it never leaks.
Discussion about different layer options
Alva baby Inserts Any one have experience with Alva baby inserts?
I have the 5 layer charcoal bamboo. My child pees a lot and it works well.
Comparison of insert types and their effectiveness
Charcoal bamboo are just several layers of MF with a bamboo shell. They will be prone to compression leaks.
Personal experiences with Alva diapers
So far my 3mo is still fine with 1 Alva MF insert.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Use of disposable diapers overnight
I layer a Nora's Nursery insert on top of one of those and it lasts for hours on my toddler.
We’ve been using a mix of NN and AB for about six months now and have found them pretty interchangeable.
Maybe sew large Velcro into internal sides.
Preference for using inserts as boosters
The 3 layers bamboo are thin, for us they work well as boosters paired with a regular microfiber insert.
I second the 3 layer bamboo as a booster.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Personal preference for absorbency varies
doing two microfiber inserts works well enough, though.
Do you think this will Work as I hav Not tried it yet.
Comparison of different diaper brands
The Nora's inserts seem more absorbant.
Probably only for colder areas.
Comparison of various diaper systems
I have a bunch of Charlie banana pockets. They’re nice, but resizing with the inner elastic is a pain.
Sewing skills can help maintain elasticity
It is very satisfying to restore a cover back to its full functionality and keep it going for its 2nd+ life.
Preference for different insert types varies
I’ve found Carters pants to work well with cloth diapers.
Discussion on insert combinations for optimal performance
Been using that combo for 8 months or more and it’s worked great.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about pocket diapers being dirty
I don’t see the point I feel like it stays dirty.
Concerns about using inserts directly against skin
Usually covers don’t have a material lining so they can be wiped for pee.
