Snoop's Take

The ALVABABY 12PCS Newborn Cloth Diaper Insert is designed to provide optimal absorbency and comfort for your baby. Made with a 5-layer charcoal liner, these reusable inserts aim to keep your little one dry while minimizing environmental waste associated with disposable diapers. Consumer feedback highlights the effectiveness of the inserts, with many users praising their absorbency and softness. One satisfied parent noted, "They definitely hold more pee!" while another remarked on the usability, stating, "Having this pack of diapers to fill out my collection has actually been a godsend." However, some users have reported issues with leaks, particularly when using microfiber inserts directly against the baby's skin, leading to a mixed sentiment overall. Despite some concerns about leakage and skin irritation, the majority of users appreciate the functionality and sustainability of the ALVABABY inserts. Based on the feedback, these inserts are recommended for parents looking for a reliable cloth diaper solution that balances comfort and environmental responsibility.

They definitely hold more pee!

Positive Feedback

Change more often (about max every 2 hrs unless asleep), and consider a natural fiber insert that absorbs faster, like cotton/prefolds!

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Super absorbent and holds more liquid
They definitely hold more pee!
I use Osocozy cotton prefolds to stuff most of my pockets because they have better absorbency than microfiber.
Very rarely had any leaks and no issues cleaning anything.
it never leaks.
Soft and comfortable for babies
Are they good quality?
Can you post a picture?
Thank you everyone for your responses!! ❤️ I’ll try different liners and changing more often.
Upgrade the liners and you’ll be good to go.
Convenient for building a diaper collection
Having this pack of diapers to fill out my collection has actually been a godsend actually.
Easy to use
I only use Alvababy pockets, I like how easy they are and our first child is almost 2.
Effective combination of inserts improves performance
You need both inserts to work together, and they should both be inside the pocket.
it works 99% of the time :)
Love: LPO pockets and AIO, Grovia ONEs, Alva with cotton and hemp inserts added Hated: bumgenius a
5-layer charcoal insert works well for heavy wetters
I have the 5 layer charcoal bamboo. My child pees a lot and it works well.
3-layer bamboo works well as boosters
The 3 layers bamboo are thin, for us they work well as boosters paired with a regular microfiber insert.
I second the 3 layer bamboo as a booster.
Convenient for diaper collection management
Your amount sounds perfect for washing every 2 days, and you'll probably have enough of a buffer to have clean diapers all day on wash day as your baby gets older.
The inserts are fine for me. No blowouts or rashes/etc.
I do laundry every 2 days (and I usually have like 3-10 diapers left when I do laundry). It works out great for me and my newborn!
30 diapers for laundry every two days is great!
Inserts can be customized for absorbency
Probably a dumb question but I just have a whole drawer of these inserts that I don’t use at all.
Inserts are kind of customizable- you put in more inserts or various materials depending on how much your kid pees, basically.
Easy to reuse covers if not soiled
I’m finding that easier for now while he’s little still (10wks).
Gentler on baby's skin
I appreciate the sustainability and cost savings aspect.
Honestly, I kept the expectations relatively low for cloth diapering.
Good success with fit after initial weeks
We started using Alva pockets around 12 weeks and have had good success with them!
Never had any leaks with this fit.
Effective with added cotton for absorption
I added cotton and haven't gotten leaks whereas I couldn't go two hours with my 2 month-old before.
I'd suspect the microfiber inserts - either their capacity or compression leaks possibly.
Happy with alternative inserts for leak prevention
They hold a ton of pee and we've been really happy with them.
Users appreciate adding Alvababy inserts for extra absorbency
Super easy to wash and dry.
No leaks reported with Alvababy inserts for heavy wetters
I use their inserts exclusively 24/7 and have a heavy wetter. We don't have leaks at all. I loooove their inserts.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Leaking issues reported
Change more often (about max every 2 hrs unless asleep), and consider a natural fiber insert that absorbs faster, like cotton/prefolds!
The microfiber is susceptible to something called “compression leaks.”
I had leaks all the time (compression leaks). Plus the microfiber inserts will start to smell over time.
Some users experienced leaking issues
What am I doing wrong? How can I put an insert straight on her skin without getting a rash?
Alva inserts (both micro and hemp) are very thin and don't hold much. They simply don't have many layers to them.
Microfiber inserts cause skin irritation
If those are microfiber inserts, they are NEVER to go against babies skin unless you want red baboon newborn butt.
Great question! As others have mentioned, microfiber isnt great against babies skin.
With microfiber this doesn't work, because as all the other commenters have already said, it can severely irritate baby's skin.
Depends on what your inserts are made of! That looks like microfiber, which isn’t good directly against skin.
Compression leaks with certain inserts
Charcoal bamboo are just several layers of MF with a bamboo shell. They will be prone to compression leaks.
Microfiber inserts can irritate baby's skin
If they’re the microfiber inserts that came with them you don’t really want that touching the baby’s skin as it can be irritating.
Inserts may not be long enough for taller babies
My son is very long and they’re not long enough for his body anymore because they only have two rows of snaps.
Microfiber prone to compression leaks
Microfiber is not the best at anything.
Microfiber inserts cause leaks
I use alva baby pockets and they do great, just not with the MF inserts! I stuff a FST in them for daytime and for overnight I use a FST and a charlie banana hemp/cotton insert.
Sounds like the MF inserts just don’t hold enough liquid on their own.
Microfiber inserts are prone to compression leaks
Microfiber inserts are prone to compression leaks and I did have that issue with the non-natural Thirsties AIOs until I used a hemp/cotton doubler.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General chatter about reusable diaper systems
Affordable system that will last a long time.
Almost everything I got worked well for us, my second kid is still using them and he’s almost 2.
They work for us so far, although we decided to do disposable overnight.
Discussion on pairing different inserts for better performance
Alva baby Inserts Any one have experience with Alva baby inserts? Which would recommend if any (3 Layers bamboo, 5 layers charcoal bamboo etc)
We use the regular microfiber that came with the diapers.
Discussion on alternative inserts and personal experiences
I recommend investing in some cotton simply because cotton is so easy to clean and very forgiving.
I use 2 cotton and 1 hemp in one diaper, and they’re not even too bulky.
Discussion on absorbency vs capacity of inserts
I don’t think it’s a fit issue as the FST on top doesn’t leak.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about sewing elastic replacements
It’s very satisfying to restore a cover back to it's full functionality and keep it going for its 2nd+ life, but yeah, this takes up some time.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about identifying types of inserts
Alva insert types? We got our diapers 2nd hand and the majority are Alva baby.
If the insert is ribbed and the tag is the logo sewn in a corner then it’s microfiber.
Mine have composition stated on the other side of the label.
If you wet them and can squeeze them dry by wringing in your hands, safe bet it is microfiber.
Discussion about comparing Alvababy with Nora's Nursery
Are they essentially the same? The only thing that seems different are the inserts, perhaps bamboo for the Nora's and cotton for the Alva?
The fit is pretty much the same as Alva. The inserts and patterns are the only meaningful difference.
General advice on usage of Alvababy
Are Alvababy diapers any good? I was disappointed to read some pretty mediocre reviews online.
Discussion on adjusting diaper fit to prevent leaks
Make sure you are tucking the diaper into baby’s leg creases, kinda like underwear fits into our leg creases.
Advice on starting cloth diapering while using disposables
Also, if anyone is willing to chat with me on the side later on as I get started to help me out that would be awesome! (Be my cloth diaper mentor lol)
Unsolicited tip: start cloth before you finish the disposables, so if everything goes wrong you've got a tried and true solution to fall back on!
Comments on sizing and fit of Alvababy diapers
the diapers were too big on my son. Apparently the alvababy diapers are pretty big in comparison and there were gaps around the thighs.
Overwhelming information for new users
It's just laundry. Don't overthink it.
Wash routine confidence is crucial
Wash routine confidence is #1
Discussion about laundry routines
Where do you store your first pre wash load for the two days until the next load is pre washed?
I was initially worried it might get musty, but with encouragement of another poster on this board I tried it and have had no issues!
Advice on transitioning to one-size diapers
I think the OS would be pretty bulky for a newborn (doable allegedly, but so much buttoning/folding).
Discussion about preferred brands and places to buy
I’m having trouble trusting Amazon reviews anymore, so hoping this community might have the answers…
I actually don't prefer Amazon at all for cloth diapering.
Users share their experiences with different cloth diaper brands
Any good/bad experiences welcome. I’m getting ready to buy my stash and am pretty set on AIOs to make life easy for hubby and I, any opinions on the brands listed above would be appreciated.
They have a cult like following. There is no denying they are great. However my god they are fragile.
