Use the vacuum seal function once. Then move slightly above that spot and use the heat seal only function to add a second level of seal.
Ability to handle liquids with care
You seal it once, then dry out the lip of the bag and put it back in and hit seal right away, or hit pulse.
Keep using the one you have. Just for fun, vacuum seal the Anova and stick it in a closet somewhere as a backup.

Same. Works fine. Keep it clean, make sure the rubber seals are seated correctly, select max seal, learn how to use “pulse” to seal wet foods so as not to draw liquids into the chamber (or freeze them first), and bob’s your uncle.

Yea it has a “water-rich” option for vacuuming wet stuff and it stops it from spilling out of the seam, but it also has a little juice canal if it does spill … because sometimes it does lol
Good quality vacuum sealer bags
Most of the bag will be compatible with any vacuum sealer.
There are multiple better options at the price point of all their models.
Affordable price point for decent performance
I got a really nice Anova one for about $100 before Christmas.
They're both on sale right now. They're both 160 Canadian Beaver Bucks.
Costco is selling the Anova for $144 with 100 precut bags (which would cost around $80 on their own) so I'm starting to go with Anova.
Effective with dry foods
Ours pulls nice and tight, especially with dry things
Things are a little looser when there’s a lot of moisture present, which is why I suggested trying something dry.
Compatible with various bag brands
Currently $40 for 2 rolls on Amazon, seems a bit pricey for plastic!
I use foodsaver rolls in my Anova sealer and they work fine.
Independent vacuum control for soft or liquid items
I can control the vacuum independently, so for soft items or things with liquid, I can vac out what I want, then seal.

The anova foodsaver is much smaller/cheaper than the foodsaver my parents have - but is it of lower quality?

Motor strength is perceived as weak
The foodsavers and other cheap ones just have weak motors and don't do a great job.
My $80 annova is fine, could be better. Next one will be an upgrade for sure once this sealer dies.
Not seen as a significant upgrade
If its not broke, don’t replace it. I have the like $80 annova vacuum sealer, it works but its nothing special at all.
Weak vacuum strength compared to commercial units
it's cheap; it's a fun device to do quick pickle with, cool down pastries rapidly, infuse oils, etc etc.
Lacks strong suction power
I have one and I don't love it. It just feels like it doesn't have a lot of suction power.
Inconsistent sealing performance
It happens to me if the bag is too long or doesn’t sit right in the chamber.
Weak seal with certain brands of bags
We had a weak seal with the Amazon bags, but the Costco (Kirkland) ones have been great, powerful seal.
Not sure how to test if my machines gone bad, or just have bad bags without having to buy different brands to test since I already have a gigantic roll.
Now, I only use Foodsaver brand because I haven't had them fail.

If you fill the bag with 200 mL water, do you see the water boil before the end of the run?

they don’t hold the seal!
