Lightweight and breathable materials

Easier to drink from compared to bottles
It's so much easier to use that I can actually stay hydrated with it whereas the awkwardness of bottles is a hindrance for me.
Encourages hydration while on the go
Get whatever system will encourage drinking water
Doesn't significantly impact climbing performance
I didn't feel like the weight of it really impacted my climbing too much and I don't think I've seen other people use one for climbing before in my area (MN).
The real benefit to having a small pack is to have all those just-in-case items.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about hydration pack features and comparisons
Make Hydration Packs Great Again! Remember those dark days when your hydration pack was just a single deep cavern and you could never find anything in there without unpacking the entire thing?
I rode with the osprey raptor. Has its own tool roll spot, hydration system, and plenty of room for my cameras and batteries.
+1 for the Osprey Raptor. I've tried bigger, smaller and hip packs but I always come back to the Raptor 14.
Osprey is the way to go! Bought a raptor in 2016, broke the chest strap, Osprey sent a new one, no questions asked.
Discussion about discontinued CamelBak hydration packs
CamelBak used to, but it looks like they discontinued it a few years ago
the less shit on my deck the better, IMO.
Preference for hydration tube positioning
I feel like the tube ends up dangling around my shoulder and might get dirty, as opposed to being fixed across my chest/ chest strap.
It’s always a search for the personally best solution in these bladders with tubes.
Discussion about the need for clear hydration packs
Hello! This will be my second UMF, and am planning on some cool gear, however part of my idea requires a Camelbak hydration backpack that is at least partially, if not completely clear/transparent.
You could probably just find a clear backpack, and use the bladder from the camelback.
Don't think Camelbak makes any clear themselves, you'd probably have to buy a clear/transparent backpack.
Vibedrations packs come with clear bladders now but will need to buy a clear backpack or something.
Humorous takes on packing habits
Enjoy your trip. Return home, leave everything in the suitcase and just move it from the bed to the floor to the bed to the floor for a week and a half after you get back.
Now, which part should I pack or does it not matter?
But I would suggest that you choose to wear the side that is also your dominant hand.

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about electrolyte preferences for hydration during runs
Electrolytes will help in balancing hydration and providing fuel and moderating body temps since the sweat doesn’t dry off the skin but soaks it.
I put one packet in 32 oz of water and drink 16 oz 30-45 minutes before my run, then sip the remaining 16 oz during the run.
They have lots of flavors & are both really good.
I've had very pleasant experience with Science in Sport (often abbreviated as SIS) — gels, carbohydrate drink mix, and electrolyte tabs.
Discussion about dyeing the CamelBak pack color
I didn’t like the color of this CamelBak pack so I dyed it!
Me either especially with how the orange stayed and the logo is still grey but whatever the actual logo is seems to pop more or something.
If you read OP’s comments in the linked photos, you’d know that the back of the bag stayed gray.
The purpose of the salt and vinegar recommended by the dye manufacturer is to help fix the colour 🤦‍♀️
Discussion about packing efficiency and methods
Saves me time and space when packing.
Share it on google drive with everyone, and it helps make packing easier so we don't end up with 4 mattress pumps but no-one brought plates.
Lay out everything you think you'll need for your trip. Pack it.
sometimes theyre relevant to the trip, sometimes theyre not, but just check everything off.

Discussion about hydration pack preferences and comparisons
Camelbak hydration packs? Up to 50% off select items on their website right now.
A good fitting one doesn’t bounce and it’s better at storing mandatory gear for longer races.
The ultra pro is a nice vest, but the side pockets are hard to reach, and front ones are weird and small, so food storage is limited/pita unless they've changed it.
I'm a total ignorant/noob in anything regarding hydration packs.
Preference for hydration systems varies based on activity
That's purely a preference thing.
Discussion about price vs value of hydration packs
Are camelback backpacks worth the extra $? Looking at them online, I want a very small hydration pack, that I can fit in a light jacket and very small snacks, but I can't see anything below $100.
If you're talking about CamelBak as a brand I don't have any experience with them. If you're talking about the general idea of a pack with an hydration bladder, I recommend watching this Jeff Pelletier video :
Preference for hydration methods varies among cyclists
I reckon I'd find it more comfortable having all my water, bike tool, phone etc tied up in a hydration pack, with just snacks in the pockets of my cycling top.
Do you keep electrolyte mix in them or just water?
I usually drink more water than electrolyte though (2 bottles of water for one bottle of electrolyte mix).
Hydration needs change with weather and distance
Yeah I mean it’s been a hot summer in the northeast so 2 bottles will really only last an hour if I’m drinking enough.
I live in the southeast. 50 miles takes me between 3:00 and 3:20 depending on traffic/route.
Sometimes you really do just want water though and can get sick of sipping the electrolytes.
Personal packing experiences and tips
Lay out everything you think you are going to need for your trip on your bed. Cut that in half.
if you get smart at mixing and matching, you *can* get down some in your overall pack.
When in doubt, always pack the baby wipes.
Concerns about packing too much or too little
My issue is that I delete the items from the list as I'm going through the packing.
You gave yourself a bit of wiggle room, which is not a bad idea when it comes to the unders.
Discussion on cleaning methods for hydration packs
What are your routines?
I never clean mine. Just leave it in the pack and nothing ever seems to grow.
Importance of hydration in climbing
Hydration is a big factor in climbing.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about hydration pack effectiveness in extreme temperatures
It would be amazing to have a 70-100ml pak of water, Gatorade, Liquid IV, etc during the summer.
The water just doesn't stay cold all day.
Don't put any type of mix in a hydration bladder, you will never be able to fully clean it out.
Discussion about venue policies regarding hydration packs
Some of the backpack rules were unclear in general.
It must be completely empty on entry to the venue.
Most standard “festival” hydration packs should be fine.
Personal experiences with non-clear CamelBak packs
I've been going to ultra for years now with my red camelback and I've had no problem.
Discussion about climbing with hydration packs
Most of them are made for bikers so the range of motion in the shoulder straps tends to not be applicable, so I've been waiting to hear from other climbers on what a good size/make was.
This it the best for things where you want extra clothing, food etc.
Being in Alberta, the weather can change so drastically that I tend to carry extra clothing with me too.
