Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General praise for other hydration packs
Old liner 1.5L is dead (lining is flaking off inside, old af Camelbak), and the pack itself is ratty and needs to be put down.
I recently got an Osprey hydration pack and it's fantastic. It's durable, comfortable, and holds enough water for long hikes.
You can't go wrong with Osprey or Camelback brands. I have this Osprey hydration pack and it's great for day hikes.
I have a platypus 3L that has never let me down.
General praise for hydration packs
I broke the mouthpiece, they sent me a whole new reservoir, tube, the works.
Very strong, I remember using it as a sleep aid in the field, topping it off with air and making it a little water pillow.
Mention of other brands

My Osprey pack is bright red. Don't know if that's 'fun' enough but it is bright.
I have a bright teal daypack from Gregory.
Discussion about various hydration bladders
Best hydration bladder? I dont want to drop cash on a camelbak, so i want to turn one of my old college backpacks into a camelbak by adding a water bladder in there.
This will be unhelpful, but get a camelbak bladder. I only replaced my first after 10 years because I wanted an insulated hose and they didn't make it in the old style anymore.
I've had my camelbak 3L bladder for more than 6 years and the only part I've replaced is the nozzle because I liked the one with a valve on it more than the big bite that was stock.
Bit the bullet on a camelback with light storage. Worth the purchase.

Discussion about the use of hydration bladders
Non-Euclidean hydration bladders are the newest craze.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Tips for removing tastes from hydration packs
I can sort of stomach the taste, but I did use it once whilst hiking to an overnight wild camp, and despite having drunk from it pretty consistently, I had a very dry mouth all evening after I set up camp.
White vinegar helped mine. Had it sit in it for a few hours then rinsed and air dry.
Ooo I need to try this for my cycling water bottles.
It’ll even get the coffee taste out of mugs.
Comparison of pack sizes for day hikes
It's the best backpack hands down, but 90% of the time I fill it to just above half of the main compartment.
I find my 22L Osprey is bigger than I need for summer time day hikes and is just right for winter hikes where I might pack a bulkier layer, hat, gloves, etc.
Mine is 18L also Gregory and sometimes it's a little too big and sometimes it's a little too small.
Overall I'm very happy with it as my other options are a 30 liter pack or an 8 liter sling pack so it fits the niche well for me.
Desire for colorful hydration packs
I like bright, fun colors and patterns, and other than the kids' line(far too small for my 5'11", 185lb frame, Camelbak offers nothing interesting.
I'd rather see my things and it make me smile a little :)
Discussion about beginner packs
They are a decent beginner pack. They are good value and rugged, but very heavy and not nearly as comfortable as some of the nicer and more expensive options.
Discussion on pack size for long hikes
Would the Teton Sports Scout 3400 be a good pack for a Rim2Rim2Rim hike? I already have this pack and was wondering if this would be a good pack for my trip next year, perhaps it is too small?
IMO, that is a huge pack. I hike with a 46L pack and most of the time it's only 2/3 full at most.
Discussion about hydration packs for day hikes
~20L Hiking Daypack Looking for a small ~20L hiking daypack to hold two 1L water bottles, sunscreen, snacks, lunch, and a light jacket.
I have an osprey talon 22 and I'm quite happy with it! It comes in different size profiles and is very adjustible for comfort.
I got my REI Trail 25 on some super deep discount a few years back, and it’s ended up being my daypack I turn to most often.
No experience with any of those, but my wife and I both have the Gregory Nano16, simple design and solid construction.
Discussion about security and allowed items for entry
Hydration packs with no more than two main compartments and one smaller compartment (must be empty upon entry)
you should be fine
My friend has that exact kind, but in blue and they let him in to Escape with no issues. So you're good.
Discussion on electrolyte importance for hydration
I've been considering trying it but I don't want to spend that much if it doesn't work.
Without certain salts and electrolytes your body doesn't retain any of the water you drink and you basically just pee it all out and receive no benefits.
General skepticism about hydration supplements
It can help people who need it, like athletes, soldiers, firefighters, etc.
Comparisons to other hydration packs
Can anyone recommend a good one for around $60?
It fits well and is pretty light but still was large enough to carry all the nutrition I took onto the course in Killington for 8 hours without any issues.
It's designed specifically for running so not too sloshy and it has a couple quick access pockets for gels etc.
I race with a Nathan Zelos but that is out of your price range by a factor of 2. So my second choic
