Snoop's Take

The Elgi Ultra Ultra Mini T Table Top Wet Grinder is designed for efficiently grinding lentils and grains to create smooth batters for Indian dishes like idli and dosa. With a 1.25L capacity and a powerful 85-watt motor, this compact appliance features patented conical stones that ensure effective grinding while maintaining the temperature of the batter. Users appreciate the grinder's ability to produce fine batters, with one noting, "the shearing action of the grinder leads to a different end product," emphasizing its effectiveness for traditional cooking. Consumer feedback highlights the Elgi Ultra grinder's excellent performance, particularly for making idli and dosa batter, with many users praising its design and functionality. However, some concerns have been raised about its limitations, such as not being suitable for grinding chocolate or achieving fine textures for vada and tortillas, with one user stating, "it just doesn't grind fine enough." Despite these criticisms, the overall sentiment leans positive, with many users recommending it for those specifically looking to create traditional Indian batters. In conclusion, the Elgi Ultra Ultra Mini T Wet Grinder is highly recommended for its intended purpose of grinding lentils and grains, especially for families who enjoy preparing authentic Indian cuisine. While it may not be ideal for all grinding tasks, its strengths in creating fine batters and its durable design make it a worthy addition to any kitchen.

Wet grinder excels at making batter
Blades are bigger so works faster.
Wet grinder produces fine idli and dosa batter
the shearing action of the grinder leads to a different end product.
you don't really get the same consistency(idli/dosa batter needs a really fine urad dal paste).
Chutneys and other pastes are much better with wet grinder instead of with mixer etc.
Good design quality
I actually find it very good design wise.
have their 1.5l , with sutomatic stop. mother loves it. no issues since we bought in 2017
Wet grinder is effective for idli and dosa batter
You could try but there are chances of some small pieces of stone may accumulate into it because the wood creates big friction between the two stones.
Excellent motor and power performance
I had the ultra, the motor & power is excellent, but the jar bottom keeps breaking, we have changed it 6 times so far, now ultra has stopped , so difficult to find parts.

I tried this route but am not happy with the result, it just doesn't grind fine enough.
Not suitable for grinding resin
I have tried to grind oakmoss by hand and by coffee grinder and that's a huge pain.

ultra t mini wet grinder for christmas my dad bought me the ultra t mini wet grinder so i can finally start making chocolate bean to bar.
I am curious what melanger/wet grinder you recommend that is compact, decent-performing, and reasonably priced.
Most of these machines originated in India and probably still the only makers. Indians make a wet sourdough crepe called Dosa and dumplings called Idli, and many variations of these, so they need to wet grind rice flour and lentils and this is the traditional method.
Wet grinders offer different results compared to food processors
Seems like I have covered all my bases when it comes to curry pastes.
These things will grind until you can no longer detect any particles whatsoever - they will make peanuts as smooth as mayonnaise!

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Regular mixie/blender can be used for idli and dosa
the only difference is that you won't get as much quantity of batter as you would with a wet grinder but in terms of convenience I'd pick a mixie over a wet grinder any day.
Discussion on using a wet grinder for unconventional materials like wood
Electric wet grinder for breaking down wood? After watching some videos showing how tibetan incense is made and seeing how they use wet-grinding to break down wood, I came across this grinder.
Suggestion to use a grain mill for smaller bits
Maybe a grain mill to get it into smaller bits?

Comparison with chocolate refiners
I use one of the premier melangers for chocolate, which are very similar to their wet grinders.
Alternative mills suggested for fine grinding
I lucked out and got a small one from a family who imported it from Tijuana. does a fine job getting the corn fine enough for tortillas.
Learning about wet grinders through cooking resources
Playing chess with myself as a kid, I tried with all my will to find a win for the weaker position.
Comparison to food processors and other grinding methods
Idli/Dosa Wet Grinder or Food Processor? I want to try making my own batter as i already make sourdough and many other fermentables.
I would suggest the Indian style 'mixer/grinder' that most Indian household's use to make batters, before commiting to a single-purpose appliance like the wet grinder.
Now I have a Vitamix and she's quite happy with the results.
The problem with a food processor is that it takes too long to make a reasonably fine paste of rice.
Discussion on grinding techniques and preferences
My Vitamix blender would do fine for the wet ingredients (vitamix have fairly blunt blades so its more like grinder), but I'd just have to do larger batches.
Discussion on availability of replacement parts for wet grinders
the stones in roller assembly are have lost all the friction
It’s easier to sell whole machine.
seems quiet a bit excessive to buy whole machine just for stone set.

Comparison of wet grinders to regular blenders
How is this different from from a different side regular blender?
The link looks like my Butterfly brand, what I call a blender configuration.
Wet grinder may be niche in Sweden
You won't be able to find a good wet grinder in Sweden for a decent price, since that is a niche product most Swedes wouldn't understand how to use, we simply do not have this tradition.
Availability of wet grinders in Sweden is limited
Wet grinder in Sweden? Im looking for a wet grinder to make dosa, idli and vada. But the availability in Sweden is VERY limited, and the prices are quite high, approx 220€.
Discussion about different mixers and their capabilities
I bought the Ultra Topp and I love it!! It's so much easier to use and clean than the blenders and food processors I used before.
I really liked, it does wet and dry grinding both, I can also grind spices easily in it, I would recommend getting it.
It does great - and you can do different jar sizes.
Learning curve for achieving smooth rice
Wet grinder problems! 30 minutes later and rice still isnt smooth? The dal came out perfectly but my rice is still a little grainy... I soaked for 5+ hours... Im wondering if I added too much water at the start
Yep, sounds like you used too much water. It takes quite a bit of practice to get it right so don't fret.
