Users appreciate its ability to produce consistent idli and dosa batters, with one user noting, "you don't really get the same consistency" with other appliances, highlighting its specialized function. Feedback indicates strong satisfaction in its grinding performance, especially for fermenting batters and grinding dal effectively. Consumers have praised the "outstanding design and construction quality," which supports its durability and efficiency, although some users reported challenges such as uneven rice grinding and limited versatility. What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective for grinding masa for tortillas
You can get delicious tortillas out of an Indian wet grinder. It will take a lot of work.
Grinds batter well for fermentation
Idli/Dosa Wet Grinder or Food Processor? I want to try making my own batter as i already make sourdough and many other fermentables.
The problem with a food processor is that it takes too long to make a reasonably fine paste of rice.
Ideal for making idli and dosa batter
I have a grinder and that’s only because I make idli and dosa batter every other week.
You could use a food processor or some other blender to make them too but you don't really get the same consistency.
Wet grinder is used to grind Urad dal for Idli, Dosa etc.
Effective for idli and dosa batter
You could try but there are chances of some small pieces of stone may accumulate into it because the wood creates big friction between the two stones.
Excellent motor power
Advice wanted on mixies in the USA: Preethi Eco VS Ultra Topp? I want to buy my first mixie but the Ultra Stealth I originally wanted doesn't seem to be available.
I had the ultra, the motor & power is excellent, but the jar bottom keeps breaking, we have changed it 6 times so far, now ultra has stopped , so difficult to find parts.
Effective for grinding dal
Wet grinder problems! 30 minutes later and rice still isnt smooth? The dal came out perfectly but my rice is still a little grainy... I soaked for 5+ hours... Im wondering if I added too much water at the start (same amount as if I were using a blender). Any suggestions would be awesome!
Yep, sounds like you used too much water. It takes quite a bit of practice to get it right so don't fret. I threw away my first couple of batches because I wasn't anywhere close to getting it right :/ What you can try is now is soak more rice, then working in batches, grind the newly soaked rice with your coarsely ground rice. You won't need as much water because the coarsely ground should be sufficiently liquid-ish.
Outstanding design and construction quality
The quality of design and construction are outstanding.
Effective for making dosa and idli batter
Idli or Sanna, it's pretty much the same preparation as for the dosa batter, Though you can use yeast instead of the Fenugreek seeds.

Not suitable for grinding chocolate
anyone have experience with this for making chocolate? i tried looking for a duty cycle, but i couldnt find it.
This item cannot grind chocolate. It is a wet grinder designed for grinding lentils and grains to make batter for Indian foods like idli and dosa
Single-purpose appliance, not versatile
Wet grinders are big, heavy, and only do one thing.
Doesn't grind fine enough for vada
I tried this route but am not happy with the result, it just doesn't grind fine enough.
Grinds rice unevenly with a grainy texture
Ultra perfect+ : This grinder keeps stopping every 5 to 10 mins, even if the quantity is small.

Discussion on differences between wet grinders and blenders
How is this different from from a different side regular blender?
Interest in Indian-made grinders for specific tasks
I have a food processor and a smoothie blender, but neither are powerful enough to make good spice powders from whole spices, masalas, chutneys - never mind flours for dosa/idli batter.
I use an electric coffee grinder for spice powders. It works well.

Alternatives to wet grinders for making idli and dosa batter
I'm sorry this is not the answer you're looking for, but you totally can make idli and dosa batter using a regular mixie/blender.
Exploring unconventional uses for wet grinders
Has anyone attempted to use something like this to break down wood? If so, how did it go?
But for wood, roots, and thicker herbal matter like barks and stems? Yeah maybe? I have tried to grind oakmoss by hand and by coffee grinder and that's a huge pain.
Suggestions for alternatives to wet grinders
For idly/dosa try if you could find Butterfly wet grinders with heavy stone girdle thingy in it.
Interest in using the grinder for various dishes
I seriously want a wet grinder like this.

Inquire about the brand/type
What is the brand/type? Could you post a picture?
Comparison to other grinders and mills
I use one of the premier melangers for chocolate, which are very similar to their wet grinders.
I would consider getting a mill from Mexico up to where you live.
What a timely thread! I'm about to take one for the team and order a Premier chocolate refiner.
Comparison to food processors and other appliances
I would suggest the Indian style 'mixer/grinder' that most Indian household's use to make batters, before commiting to a single-purpose appliance like the wet grinder.
Now I have a Vitamix and she's quite happy with the results.
Comparison of wet grinders to other appliances
My Vitamix blender would do fine for the wet ingredients (vitamix have fairly blunt blades so its more like grinder), but I'd just have to do larger batches.
I suppose if I ever really got into South Indian cooking, I could make my own batter and I have seen this thing being used, but then again, it is not clear to me whether this distinction between crushing vs blending would apply to that batter (like couldn't I use a Vitamix and a stand mixer?).
You might *think* you can make a smooth nut butter in a vitamix, but you honestly don't know the meaning of smooth until you've left something in a wet grinder for half a day! These things will grind until you can no longer detect any particles whatsoever - they will make peanuts as smooth as mayonnaise!
Inquiry about obtaining wet grinder stone sets
the stones in roller assembly are have lost all the friction
I bought one to make chocolates
seems quiet a bit excessive to buy whole machine just for stone set.

Inquiry about reliable wet grinder brands
I started making a lot of batter lately to make idlis and dosas for my family.
I think most people looking for an indian style wet grinder go for a Preethi in the US.
Elgi or Panasonic.
Can I get some vocabulary help here?
Limited availability and high prices in Sweden
Wet grinder in Sweden? Im looking for a wet grinder to make dosa, idli and vada. But the availability in Sweden is VERY limited, and the prices are quite high, approx 220€.
You won't be able to find a good wet grinder in Sweden for a decent price, since that is a niche product most Swedes wouldn't understand how to use, we simply do not have this tradition.
Discussion comparing different mixies
And I really liked, it does wet and dry grinding both, I can also grind spices easily in it, I would recommend getting it.
It does great - and you can do different jar sizes.
Inquiries about the brand/model of the grinder
What is the brand/model of the grinder? I would like to get one too.

Challenges with achieving smooth textures in wet mixes
Yeah, wet mixes I don't have so much trouble with - though they are never as smooth as I'd like.
