I had proto/dye covers back in the day and they got caked with dirt and paint and were a pain to clean.

Positive Feedback

Do whatever you like best. I dont like the bulkyness of covers anymore, taping is ok but with oily stains from previous hits can be messy and slick.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Exalt silicone cover performs well
I had proto/dye covers back in the day and they got caked with dirt and paint and were a pain to clean.
I like my Exalt butt cover, I'd just recommend a full tank cover if you spend any time in the snake.
Finish looks good!
Great grip and protection
Honestly, I think the tank butt covers by exalt (that includes the ninja edition) are great and more than enough for that you need.
Exalt tank covers are great, they give great grip and protect everything important on the tank.
Provides good grip and protection for tanks
Not a necessity, but a tank butt cover can help with traction against your jersey.
Protect your investment... Plain and simple.
Cost-effective alternative to buying a cover
Best thing about it, it's pretty much free!
Fits multiple tank sizes

Preference for bulkier covers over silicone
Do whatever you like best. I dont like the bulkyness of covers anymore, taping is ok but with oily stains from previous hits can be messy and slick.
Preference for rear grip over full silicone covers
My rear grip doesn't ever move, and is sometimes difficult to remove if I need to clean it.
Perceived as not necessary for tank protection
My friend claimed it was absolutely necessary to protect the tank, which I didn't believe due to how thin the covers were.
Difficult to install
I found my spirit animal.
Preference for alternatives like tape
... I just tape my tanks.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on alternative tank cover options
The dye flex cover? Could possibly for the 2 piece hk cover too.
My bunkerkings fits on my 77 alpha air perfectly fine
I still use my Dye rhino covers on all my tanks.
Right now I have a cloth-type material NXE cover that is disintegrating and I despise it.
Reference to older styles of tank covers
I'm on the same page as you. Just did a tournament and I was rocking my old school redz tank cover. All the other guys were just running naked tanks or taped tanks. I prefer the grip on my shoulder of a tank cover.
Discussion on necessity of fill nipple covers and thread protectors
are fill nipple covers and thread protectors really necessary for a cheap tank?
They're not necessary for any tank, but are always advised. They're cheap, preventative things that will save you missing a day of play.
It's not just about protecting the tank reg, it's about preventing your day from being put on pause to deal with a preventable problem.
A nipple cover's primary purpose is keeping dirt out of your tank.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on using hockey tape instead of covers
I just use hockey tape on the back. Make a couple perpendicular lines and then run a piece around the circumference so all the ends get covered
Discussion on alternative solutions for tank protection
or you can use the bag Crown comes in, thats what Im using on my tank
Cost-effective alternatives to protect tanks
Talking about two things that are less than 20 bucks that will keep both your marker and tank from being damaged.
You can get a 3/4" PVC end cap at any hardware store for less than a buck.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Difficulty finding the right tank cover size
The covers for the standard 68 have a tendency to be too big so wasn't sure if anyone found and alternative.
I wasn’t big into using tape, but it works well and is easy to clean and replace.
Gotta say I prefer the tape since it's so much easier to rip off and replace+ a quick wipe of the tank and it's done.
Made finding neoprene covers a chore.
Personal preference for full covers in woods play
I still use full tank covers cause I play in the woods.
Reasons for moving away from full covers include cost and convenience
I think Part of it was being cheap, personal preference, and the ability to wipe tank hits more easily.
Discussion on installation tips
They are very tight but that is the purpose. Once they are on, they aren't going anywhere.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about precautions for tank safety during cleaning
Am I being paranoid? I cover my tanks when the cleaners come over.
Not at all! Some ppl are coming clean the outside windows of the apartment and I’m totally going to cover my pond with a tarp.
Not unreasonable at all. There was a post a while back of someone who lost entire tank(s) after window cleaners did their apartment without notice.
ive seen a handful of posts over the years of people losing entire tanks from this - definitely not paranoid, its something everyone should consider 🙂
Discussion on the purpose of canvas covers for mantlets
why do some tanks have this canvas cover over the mantlet
Perhaps to keep dirt and debris out? An educated guess.
It's a dust cover for hinged mantlets, so they won't jam when operating in dusty environments like bombed out cities or deserts.
It's a cover to protect the mantlet from being jammed by dust, sand, rocks, or other debris that may be kicked up into the mantlet.
Concerns about potential damage without protectors
I also think they may be a loose enough fit that they can’t actually hold air.
