What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Convenient for cooking breakfast
Cook bacon on a panini press. It cooks both sides at once and prevents splatter!
I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon. Sue me.
Versatile for various cooking needs
it can cook pretty much anything I throw at it.
you can cook ANYTHING on a George Foreman
We use it for toasties, meat, fish, everything. Definitely more versatile than a standalone toastie maker.
I use it for all types of things, from waffles to paninis to pancakes (in griddle mode).
Convenient for making grilled sandwiches
I use my George Foreman grill to make some awesome grilled sandwiches.
Convenient for making toasties
but we'll go through phases, so I'll have 4 in a week and then none for months.
Convenient for cooking bacon
Most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill.
And it’s good for you!.
I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me
Effective for making sandwiches
Yeah, I use mine almost daily, as a sandwich press.
Removable plates for easy cleanup
My most used and favorite small kitchen appliance is a sandwich grill sometimes called a panini press.
Long-lasting durability
Still use mine 15 or so years later. No need to buy another
Durable and long-lasting grill
I have a 15 year old George Foreman grill that acts as my panini press.
Same the old foreman is still going strong.
Easy to clean with removable plates
They work pretty well for that stuff, barely any cleanup.
Versatile for various grilled sandwiches
I have a George Foreman that I use to make crunchwraps, and it makes them really well.
grilled cheese right away, but it's really fun.
Effective for cooking a variety of foods
In my opinion one of most overhyped appliances ever created
All the time ... I've got one of the big ones ... hot dogs, paninis, grilled cheese ... get's heavier use than the microwave.
I have a nice one with removable plates which I use for waffles, burgers in the winter, and paninis.
Effective for making grilled cheese sandwiches
Anyone else use a panini press?
George Foreman makes bomb grilled cheese sandwiches.
Convenient for cooking with minimal butter
Personally for me I spread it on the bread and alittle on the grill before placing.
Effective for cooking meats
People that come over always seem to be surprised at how good the food actually is when cooked on the foreman for some reason.
It gets broken out a few times in the winter or if it's a day where I need to cook meat fast but lazily.
Good for making grilled cheese sandwiches
The only thing I don't like about my Foreman grill is the cleaning. That grill makes the BEST grilled cheese sandwiches though; and does meat and veggies well, try some grilled squash and carrots.
The great thing about a Foreman for grilled cheese is if you set it to the setting 1 notch above "min", it browns the bread perfectly without needing to put butter on the outside of the sandwich.
Convenient for cooking in small spaces
Its easy to use and for the most part heats up evenly.
Heats up evenly for cooking
It was all right, but it never got hot enough to get a good crust on my steaks without overcooking.
Easy to use for quick meals
I just use it for grilling meats that I later add sauces to, or incorporate into dishes cooked in other methods.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Grease drips on counter
Eventually everyone realized they didn't want a grill that dripped grease on the counter no matter how hard you tried.
Replaced by air fryers
Air Fryer killed Foreman grill
Limited width for larger sandwiches
I used to have one, and it was great for grilled cheese, but it didn't open wide enough for a lot of stuff.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Humorous comments about breakfast routines
I knew before even looking this would be in the comments. Happy it’s all the way at the top.
Just don’t step on it
Sounds like you need [this](https://bacontoday.com/waken-bacon-the-real-bacon-alarm-clock/). It's old, and totally not a fire hazard at all...
I clicked on this thread knowing that a comment like this would be at number one 😂 👍
Reflections on George Foreman's career
George Foreman's career selling electric grills lasted way longer than his boxing career, and was probably way more profitable.
Discussion about the grill's size
To your point it is one the smaller side . RIP Big George

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about automated breakfast setups
One of my friends has his Alexa set up to do this. He wakes up and says “breakfast on”, and it opens his blinds, starts the coffee etc.
Discussion on alternative sandwich pressing methods
Yes, but get a George Foreman grill instead-- it's much more versatile than a panini press.
Two cast iron skillets work well too.
Cast iron skillet + foil brick is all you ever need to make a great pressed sandwich.
use the griddle as a burner on a stovetop.
Discussion about work-from-home cooking
Trying to convince my other half that this would be a valuable addition to the household, especially as we are both going to be WFH for the foreseeable future!
Discussion about using timers for convenience
Plug it into a timer
Have you ever tried this with an electric outlet timer? Don’t even have to plug it in and it turns itself off.
Get an auto on/off timer & stay in bed until its ready.
Lighthearted comments about cooking bacon
Sleep with it plugged in on the floor near your bed for bacon tomorrow
Comment on food preparation creativity
This is what I made in college on a George Foreman grill
the george foreman!!
Exploration of unique sandwich combinations
I could get used to this.
A sandwich from a local spot I love.
Oh it was so melty and crisp. Mmmm good times.
Discussion on butter usage with grilled sandwiches
I just put the butter in a pan to let the bread soak it in.
That bread looks... Dry. Hit it with some butter, or a light spray of oil.
Discussion about alternate uses for the grill
I've never thought about using it to make pannini sandwiches.
That's pretty much the main thing I use mine for.

Curiosity about office facilities
Can we just pause for a second... Who's fucking work has a panini press?!
Discussion about food sharing in workplaces
the sauerkraut was in the slow cooker getting ready for lunch. This was probably around 8am and the smell had already filled the room.
See, I like all that, just not the hot food aroma saturation so early. Hit me with that sauerkraut meal at leaving time.
Preference for frying pans over electric appliances
Just use a frying pan so much better than pissing about with extra electrical clutter.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Workplace cooking mishaps with panini press
the panini press press was no longer to be used for anything other than sandwiches.
This dude used the WORK panini press to cook a steak 😭😭😭
A lady (former co worker) decided to try reheat frozen chicken nuggets on our work panini press...
And blames "the vegans" for messing up that panini press for a subpar steak.
Nostalgia for past popularity
Whatever happened to the George Foreman Grill craze? I remember getting my first apartment 20yrs ago and feel like everyone in their 20s always had one.
Humorous takes on the grill's effectiveness
The only thing a George foreman grill is good for is subtle domestic disputes where one party wants to feed the other fucking garbage.
“Somebody get this man a panini press!”
Discussion about various cooking appliances
Most things I’ve seen don’t have good reviews.
It's pretty good. The waffle plates were more expensive than I'd like but we use them a lot (sourdough discard ftw).
I used to work for Carbon's Golden Malted and those machines are good but were designed for commercial use.
It doesn't have the removable plates but this is the winner of the America's Test Kitchen reviews.
