What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Cuts through crusty bread easily
It cuts through the crust like butter and gives perfectly even slices.
And this is a pic of a sourdough with rosemary.
Cutting my loaves gives a whole new understanding to the saying “best thing since sliced bread”.
I’m always glad I did.
Makes slicing easier
Using my electric slicer with 2 * 19cm Blade
Thanks for the share, been wanting something like this to make my slicing easier.
I bought a Beswood 10" premium slicer from Amazon and am glad I did! I cut everything on it now!
Versatile for different foods
Never thought to use it to slice bread. I like this idea.
I've been eyeing that one for a while now but wasn't sure it would work well for bacon in both size and power.
Easy to clean
I'm open to anything that's really good quality and is going to be easy(ish) to clean, have consistent cuts that are the same size and are safe (as possible) to use.
I think when he said "gloves for when handling the blade" he meant when taking it apart and cleaning it, not while using it to slice.
You’ll get a few bits here or there, but I haven't found it to be *that* bad to clean out.
That steaming thing I linked is the best thing I've purchased for cleaning purposes.
Regularly used for homemade meals
We bought one on a whim and assumed we'd likely not use it much. Surprise, surprise...we use it fa
Love our slicer even though we only use it a few times a year
Cuts homemade bread well
the slices go from the freezer to the toaster just fine.
Saves time compared to using a knife
My cheap, noisy, slow slicer is cheap, noisy and slow but it's still faster than cutting with a knife.
Works great for making various meats
Now we have sliced ham and some cubed ham for casseroles for a fraction of the cost.
Works great for making your own roast beef as well!
Not to mention it cuts perfect sandwich toppings like onions and tomatoes.
Saves money on buying pre-sliced meats
Bought my own meat slicer for sandwich meat. Now I get 5 times the meat for twice the price of presliced packages.
I bought one of these years ago and it has more than paid for itself in savings.
Provides better value for larger quantities of meat
it implies that you have to buy a larger quantity if you aren't buying sliced, which is worth noting

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Risk of cutting oneself with traditional knives
Really annoyed overall, haven't cut myself cooking since I was like 18.
Risk of cutting oneself with slicer
dont use gloves w/ meat slicer.. it might snag and you'll get something worse than a small cut
Risk of cuts and infections from slicers
Husband wants a commercial meat slicer I know…it’s ridiculous! But we love to cook and my hubs is a
whatever you get, make sure you get some meat-cutters gloves! Slicers aren't only dangerous because they're sharp, they're notorious for causing bad infections even from small nicks, sorry to say, but this is why they won't let workers under 18 use them at the deli.
Yeah, be super cautious. I used to work at a deli and a coworker shaved off the skin (flesh deep) off the side of their palm on one of these while cleaning it.
ouch! True though and they need to be VERY thoroughly cleaned, especially when used for meat and cured meats, the latter can have listeria especially. That's another reason delis tend to have one slicer on meats and the other on cheeses - the meat slicer needs a lot more attention to stay sterilized.
Difficult to clean effectively
No amount of googling tells me how to address this.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Clarification about product type
For people wondering what it is it is an automatic Bizerba slicer with rotary attachement (can also use a conveyor type chain).
Desire for a more powerful slicer
I want the one he is using not a cheap knockoff
Chatter about baking and selling artisan loaves
How many stretch and fold / how long apart. Did you use a long shaped banneton?
Inquiry about thickness settings for bacon
I will pull out my digital calipers if I have to.
Video demonstrating slicer functionality
here is a video demonstrating one of these working, in the description it lists the thickness as 0-12mm.
Mention of using slicers for different foods
It's a bit leaner but it's great to add a slice here and there, that was 2 months ago, still have 3 bags of it left.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about storing sliced bread
Why do you slice the whole thing? Won't it go stale faster?
Discussion about slicer size and applications
It is currently out of stock, but I have no complaints with the products available from Vevor, they tend to be of high quality at an affordable price.
Honestly this is the absolute minimum slicer that I would recommend.
I basically stole off Facebook market place for $200. It's incredible.
I have a few of their products and have zero issues with any of them.
Discussion about alternatives to new slicers
Don't buy a new one. Used meat slicers are often found on FB marketplace or NextDoor.
Mention of using slicers for cheese
You can also use them for cheese, of course.
Electric knives can slice meat well
Partially freeze the meat. Not frozen solid, but so it's... crispy.
Special slicers for hot pot meat exist
Hot pot meat is often done with a special slicer that more resembles a manual paper cutter than a deli slicer.
Discussion about using meat slicers for different types of meat
Chop all the meat off the bone, grind it up and make sausage out of it then freeze the sausage for future use.
Discussion about slicing techniques and savings
I imagine part of the savings is from cooking the meat yourself, but could be wrong

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Electric slicers are common in Germany
I also learned having a bread slicer is a pretty common household item in Germany, which I love.
Discussion about other electric slicers
KWS Commercial 420W Electric Meat Slicer 12" Frozen Meat Deli Slicer Restaurant and Home Use Stainless Steel Blade
Inquiry about slicer capabilities for frozen meat
Recommend Electric Meat Slicer for Fully Frozen Meat
Clarification on types of meat slicers
it’s quite a bit of labor to clean the machine properly so we don't operate it like a professional delicatessen where they slice things to order.
Discussion about the cost of deli slicers
I got it in 2022 for $160 but it's more than 2x that now holy crap
Mention of alternative affordable slicers
No need to spend $300 on something like that
Discussion about various brands of slicers in the market
Anyone having success with Consumer grade Equipment?
Discussion about the cost and durability of commercial slicers
I would probably search through some industrial restaurant supply stores rather than amazon.
I use it to slice turkey breast, ham, roast beef, bacon, beef for jerkey. Go commercial and 10" at least.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Humorous observation about the slicer's operation
There is something so incredibly funny to me how it slaps the meat down.
Is he out of breath from slicing 8 slices?
Discussion about the decline of electric knives
Still only $20 to $40 bucks and will slice through bread easily as well as meats or whatever.
Nostalgia for electric slicers and their usage in the past
I remember my parents having one of these, and it only came out of the cabinet to slice turkey on Thanksgiving!
I miss the days of big roasts. My mom used to roast a large eye round and then cut it up into slices for sandwiches with the electric knife.
“Best thing since sliced bread” because people started buying mass produced pre cut bread from grocery stores.
I got my slicer from my Uncle Cosmo Kramer. He said it’s a family heirloom.
Hand crank slicers are still in use
it's not as efficient as I imagine an electric one would be but it does the trick, plus my folds up nice and compact
Clarification about different types of slicers
Our bread was from a "German" bakery, done in the old, proper style.
Humorous misunderstandings about meat quantities
then I saw it was on frugal and thought "that can't be right."
I don't use much sandwich meat and when I do need 2 packs I'd prefer different types.
