Snoop's Take

SALTY FISH All-Natural Leather Conditioner and Cleaner is designed to protect, soften, and waterproof leather products, making it an essential care solution for a variety of leather items such as furniture, car seats, shoes, and bags. Made with a unique blend of food-grade ingredients, including mink oil and beeswax, it promises non-toxic, long-lasting maintenance without leaving a greasy residue. Consumer feedback highlights the effectiveness of this conditioner, where users have noted, "they’re gorgeous to me" after application, showcasing its conditioning capabilities. However, there are concerns regarding the mink oil potentially clogging leather and ruining shoe shine, with some stating, "it absolutely ruins your ability to get a good shine, permanently." Additionally, users have pointed out that this product can darken leather, which may not be desirable for everyone. Overall, while the SALTY FISH leather conditioner has received positive feedback for its conditioning properties, it may not be suitable for all types of leather care, particularly if shine retention is a priority. Therefore, it's recommended with caution, depending on the specific leather item and user preferences.

Positive Feedback

I've seen and had experiences of the mink oil clogging up the leather, especially the stitches and pores, and eventually rotting it away over time on boots.

they definitely look better now, but yeah I also use them in a really snowy location so I need it.

Mink oil can clog leather, affecting durability.

I wouldn't recommend it.
Mink oil can ruin the ability to shine leather shoes.
it's a fine conditioner for more casual shoes, but it absolutely ruins your ability to get a good shine, permanently.
Mink oil tends to darken leather.
One thing about mink oil is it tends to darken whatever leather you put it on, which might not be desirable.
Can leave waxy residue on textured leather
if you see it in indoor lighting or darker lighting, you can see that there is definitely crazy amounts of residue on the bag.
Waxy conditioners are not great for textured/pebbled leathers.

Careful with the Obenauf's.
Discussion on leather care solutions and their impacts
Help, I tried washing them with dish soap and then saddle soap yesterday, but today the mold came out again.
You could do that with pretty much any leather care solution containing wax and/or oil.
Dry naturally, and give them a coat of mink oil.
Do you suggest I wait less?
Discussion on effectiveness of beeswax for waterproofing leather
What sort of products have you guys had good luck with? Bees wax, mink oil, grease?
If you're OK with that I recommend beeswax.
A heavy coat of wax will get them as close to waterproof as they can get.

It is a very good product for the intended purpose.

It’s made my life a lot easier!
Kind of a catch 22...
Neat's foots oil is a sloppy PITA, and darkens a lot but is a great conditioner.
Need for a simple cleaning and conditioning procedure
i think that what i do is the pretty basic process. i still have issues with actually learning how much is too little or too much conditioner and polish.
Mink oil is better suited for casual shoes rather than dress shoes.

I am now vegan and thus do not wish to buy non vegan leather oil.
The only leather conditioners that are vegan are almost 100% synthetic materials, so you're basically plastifying whatever leather you're using it on.
Mention of alternative products for leather care
You might ask if that can be added after the fact or just get a pair with that leather.
Inquiry about best conditioners for boots
this guy made a lot of really good posts on /r/goodyearwelt a month or so ago where he tested a bunch of different conditioners out on some really old dry cracked leather to see which ones really perform the best.

Confusion surrounding the use of mink oil on leather shoes.
Mink oil and your shoes, good or bad? Can someone clear this up once and for all? I'm utterly confused.

Omg seeing this physically hurts! I don't have any advice on how to fix this, this is just a comment to say I feel your pain.
Concerns about food oils going rancid
So if it has to be natural then find a natural oil that's not a food product.
