There wasn't a picture I would discard for image quality and I really loved its character.
Good image quality for hiking and travel
But I highly recommend the tamron. Worth it.
Cost-effective for a travel lens
If you're budget conscious, consider buying a used copy of the lens.
Good introduction lens for f/2.8 access
I think this is the most affordable lens you can get to get access to f2.8.
Tamron lenses offer good performance for the price
If your first one is sharp, great. If not, return it.
Tamron is outstanding in my experience.
Some Tamron lenses are sharp across the frame
Tamron was sharper across the frame.
Judged as a good bargain superzoom lens
it seems to be the best lens available in that category: bargain superzoom.
Tamron lenses work well with older Nikon film cameras
Has anyone used wither of these brands on their auto focusing film cameras?
I use my Tamron 150-600 with my N65 to take wildlife photos.
I use a Tamron 24-70 2.8 and everything works great, including the VR.
Tamron 28-75 2.8 is a recommended solid option for film cameras
the Tamron 28-75 2.8 is a solid option, especially on film.
Tamron lenses offer good value for the price
They seem to be cheaper alternatives but would it be better to just shell out the extra cash for the actual Canon lense?
My philosophy with Tamron's is that they're good enough until I hit their limits or seriously go pro.
The Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is a capable walk-around lens

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Older third-party lenses may be less compatible with newer cameras.
Older 3rd party lenses compatibility on newer EOS bodies is sometimes hit and miss.
Older Sigma/Tamron lenses tend to be softer than the Canon counterparts, but tend to be a lot cheaper.
Disappointment over only crop sensor announcement
Disappointing that it's only crop sensor but excited to see progress overall.
Variable quality in older Tamron lenses
Tamron quality was all over the place back then.
Third-party lenses may be less sharp and feature-rich than brand lenses
Specific lenses can be great from 3rd party manufacturers like Tamron or sigma, but it depends on what you value as important.
Quality of Tamron lenses can vary by model
Something telling about the quality of tamron lenses if you ask me.
Incompatibility with Micro Four Thirds mount
I wouldn't mind having something like that for sure :)
much as like Tamrons, I think I'd pass on trying to pair it with an E-PL8.
If I were you I'd get the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300 mm lens.
Let me cut to the chase - don’t buy it.
Mediocre image quality for superzoom lenses
you’re never going to get spectacular image quality from them.
it's barely a jack of all and king of none.
a 22x superzoom will be optically an average performer at best with flashes of mediocrity in places, too.
Not as good as other Tamron and Canon lens alternatives
I love Tamron lenses, but I really do not like this particular one at all.
Incompatibility with older EOS cameras
I think it is safe to assume that any Tamron glass made in the last 5-10 years may not work on an old Film EOS body.
I wouldn't be surprised, since 90's sigma lenses don't work on modern EOS cameras.
Image quality is poor with superzoom lenses.
But they sure are convenient!
IQ was crap.
so yes you will be disappointed.
expect image quality to be garbage.
Incompatibility with older Canon film cameras
I would think they would because they are EF lenses, but I have heard there are some newer lenses that don't work with film cameras.
I hand a yangnuo 35mm f/2 and it didn’t work on my eos 650.
No problems using these with any lens I own, either Canon EF, or with these third-party lenses.
The AF system in those cameras might be a little frustrating at first, especially the T2.
Build quality may be less than Canon options
Generally the build quality will be less than Canon options though.

Discussion on using Tamron and Sigma lenses on film cameras
Nice!! I was looking at that lens.
I'm using Sigma Art 35/1.4 with nikon f80, works fine.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Compatibility issues vary by lens and camera combination.
Basically, what I’m saying is look for lenses of similar vintage to that camera.
Discussion on the practicality of different travel lenses
my previous travel lens, the 18-135, was a lot more practical.
Discussion on limited affordable f/2.8 lens options in the past
I loved that little Tamron lens, I still have it and I still occasionally use it - though I typically use different Canon L lenses.
Discussion on the value of performance versus cost for lenses
I suspect for those that don't need every bit of performance, the roughly $1,000 in savings is more valuable than the performance gain.
I'd rather go used Nikkor than new Tamron, though.
Discussion on using different lenses with Olympus
the more you zoom in, the more you magnify the turbulence, and because of it you lose all the details.
Discussion on the usability of vintage lenses on modern DSLRs
This Tamron Adaptall-2 28mm is a lovely bit of kit, and using it on one of Canon's highest end APSCs is a delight.
Some produce photos that no modern lenses can.
I'd be sleeping in the shed if I bought 30 vintage lenses.
Isn't it a hassle focusing on a DSLR without focus peaking?
Discussion on different lenses and their suitability.
I was looking at the Tamron 18-400 as a potential lens that I can throw on and not worry about carrying multiple lenses.
A good bag is definitely worth its weight, and there's so many options out there nowadays.
The 100-400 is a fair bit heavier but it does look best suited for what I would use it for.
I’m so much happier with the results I’m getting!!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about the history of EF cameras.
Was my first EF camera back around 1995 maybe.
Discussion about lens repair versus replacement
I just bought the lens brand new 3 months ago and I am devastated.
Also what's the difference between the cost to repair and replace?
It may not be factory-perfect, but because of phase detection, there will not be a difference in the actual operations of the lens.
I honestly don’t care for the scratches as long as it is working but that wouldnt be the case in Tamron.
Discussion on the quality of Sigma lenses over time
Wondering if anyone has any experience with Sigma Lenses and/or Tamron lenses and willing to share their experiences.
Almost everything from the A/S/C era onwards is golden though, with the Art line consistently beating out first party premium lenses across the board.
The new Art, Sport, and Contemporary lenses by Sigma are fantastic.
Positive experiences with specific Sigma lenses
I am very happy with it.
Absolutely outstanding.
I loved it.
