Snoop's Take

The COROS APEX 2 Outdoor GPS Watch is designed for outdoor enthusiasts who require reliable tracking and navigation during their activities such as running, biking, and climbing. With a sleek design featuring a sapphire glass screen and titanium alloy bezel, it offers durability and advanced functionality like offline maps and heart rate monitoring. User feedback highlights a generally positive sentiment towards the APEX 2, particularly regarding its superior GPS performance compared to competitors, with comments like, "GPS on this Garmin is terribly compared with Coros." Users also appreciate the long-lasting battery life, stating, "Battery life is _very_ good" and note the improved app and screen layout for better usability during activities. However, some concerns were raised about the lack of streaming music services and limited smart features compared to other brands. Overall, the COROS APEX 2 is highly recommended for outdoor athletes looking for a robust GPS watch with excellent battery life and accuracy, despite a few limitations in smart features.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Happy with purchase; feels like a nice upgrade for running
The Pace Pro solves all these issues, and provides some modernizations and creature comforts too.
Optimistic feedback before receiving the watch
Good review on this and while awaiting mine to arrive it gives me a good amount of optimism and confidence that I made a good purchase.
Superior GPS performance compared to older Garmin models
GPS on this Garmin is terribly compared with Coros.
Superior GPS performance
What gps mode do you use? Is there a significant difference between these modes except battery consumption?
I always use dual frequency for my runs.
Accurate health data provided
I could almost base whether I’m training or not each day solely on that.
Long-lasting battery life
And I would like a long lasting battery.
Effective for GPS tracking
GPS tracking has been off lately. I’m using the All Systems On feature for my runs.
This looks pretty impressive for a gps watch if track mode isn’t viable.
Excellent battery life
Battery life is _very_ good. I did a 51 mile, just under 4 hour ride yesterday. I started with 63% battery life... and ended with 62% battery life.
Improved app and screen layout
Love the app and the screen layout - much improved over my Wahoo Elemnt in terms of readability during a ride.
Positive initial user experience
I bought this device and I love it.
Good solid review.
Good battery life
Battery life over 2 weeks.
the battery life they claim on their website is not completely unrealistic.
Improved accuracy with run mode
Switch to the run mode for more accuracy.
I will keep that in mind for the future.
Accurate distance tracking
the distance at the end of my run is never more than 20 meters off
Software updates without hardware purchase
Coros's software updates have applied to all the hardware that's physically capable.
My last Garmin was an Instinct 2x (it was still in its return window) and I switched to the Pace 3 with zero regrets.
Impressive battery life compared to competitors
The Apex 2 still gets full maps and turn by turn navigation. It also gets 4 more hours of battery life.
Good build quality and features for outdoor activities
Apex 2 competes against the garmin 955 and 965 but at a lower price point because of music streaming is not available on it and some pay features.
Not having dual frequency on Apex 2 I think the biggest drawback for me
Long battery life
For a watch that will track over 24 hrs COROS is so much cheaper.
Better navigation features compared to Garmin
they add turn by turn navigation function already; still has issue and on fixing process
Pace 2 battery is much better.
Pace 2 battery is much better, and has all the functions I need to run and train at 80+ miles per week.
Great for running with no extra fluff.
It is a solid running watch and daily wear.
Best watch in market for pricing and features.
I think the Pace 2 is the best watch in the market right now in regards to pricing and features.
Satisfactory performance for daily running.
The upcoming update is also something to look forward to.
Positive user experience transitioning from Garmin.
I left Garmin after a decade of blind following. Just sold my Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar. Got Pace 2 and Pod2 and couldn’t be happier!
Game-changing battery life for long runs
The battery on the Apex is pretty game changing tbh.
Long battery life compared to competitors
Certainly ticks the long battery life at a lower cost them some of the others which have navigation.
Accurate GPS tracking for cycling
YouTube reviews indicate it's comparable to rival devices in terms of accurate gps recording for running, but I can't seem to find much for cycling reviews.
Overall I would say it definitely gets the job done and it hasn’t given me any data that seems way off while riding.
it was basically on point for almost every single turn within a few feet.
Useful breadcrumb navigation for trails
I often wish I could navigate on my watch vs pulling out my phone to pull up AllTrails, Maps.me, etc.
If you run trails/hike, or have complex routes you're interested in running in areas not familiar to you, it's extremely useful.
I wouldn’t want a watch without this feature.
Integration with third-party apps for navigation
the notifications will pop up when approaching a turn, and again once at the junction.
with its “deviate course alert” and “checkpoint” (when properly placed), it’s honestly all I would ever need for backpacking and trail runs.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Lacks streaming music services and payment options
the lack of streaming music services and payment were bigger dealbreakers than I thought
Limited smart features compared to competitors
Coros shows you data, graphs, navigation, map and that’s all you need for your performance.
Still a work in progress
The DURA is still a work in progress.
Inaccurate GPS tracking reported
the route that I did not run at all. I run 400-500 meters and the watch suddenly shows me the entire kilometer run and a pace under three minutes
It may also be helpful to try a watch reset. Please sync your watch with your phone before resetting.
GPS signal affected by weather conditions
What GPS setting you have? Also is it Cloudy that day?
Expectations for GPS precision may be unrealistic
I think you're expecting way too much, why would u even need the GPS to precisely read your every step?
Missing trail running and ski modes
Coros has not added trail running and ski modes that other Coros watches have had for years to the Pace 2.
Concerns about software performance compared to competitors
the software was inferior to garmin that was about 1.5 to 2 years ago.
Breadcrumb navigation not always sufficient
In my experience having a breadcrumb route is definitely helpful but often not sufficient.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Coros is primarily a running watch
Coros is very much a running watch.
Discussion on different GPS modes and settings
You can also try calibrating the compass on your watch.
Discussion on GPS mode effectiveness
Multiband is great when there are more obstacles/distractions to cause the GPS signal to bounce around.
Discussion on navigation features and their usefulness
I signed up to my first 100km today and I'd like a watch that can do the distance.
The battery life is enough for a 100M so no worries there either.
Battery life is great and navigation has been very helpful for me.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Different GPS modes and their usage
Basically you should use "All systems on" most of the time unless you need to save battery, then use "Standard".
Use of RunGap to export data to/from Garmin.
You should be able to use RunGap to export over your Garmin Data to Coros.
Or you can use RunGap to export your Coros data into Garmin (if you like the Connect app/website) - RunGap will add a fake Garmin device to the Coros data so Connect thinks the activity was created by a Garmin device.

Discussion on optimizing GPS tracking settings
This is something that is commonly brought to our developers- to be able to use track mode on shorter than 400m standard tracks.
Tbh, I think that looks quite good.
Discussion about small wrist sizes and GPS watch options
anything that is larger than 40mm is more or less uncomfortable
Great battery life, 15-20 days. GPS and other perks.
Discussion on feature comparisons with Garmin
Without considering the budget, what features would I miss if I went for Garmin?
Discussion on preferences between Garmin and Coros
I’ve got more pros than cons so far but the GPS issue is concerning when I’m about to drop £450 compared to £420 for a 265, but again something is drawing me to Coros.
User experiences transitioning from Garmin to Coros
I'm not going back, still have the fenix and not even tempted to use it
Discussion on switching from Garmin to Coros.
Garmin or Coros Is it worth leaving the garmin and going to Coros(pace 2)?
Interest in the Kiprun GPS 900 and its comparison to COROS Apex
Unfortunately I couldn’t find any further details what the processor upgrade means☹
Interesting, here in Canada they only have the 500 version here, which is a copy of the Pace (and/or Pace2)
It’s a heck of a price if it retains all of the original apex characteristics, with improvements where it lacked behind.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on reviewer perspectives
Personally, I've really been enjoying using the Dura. It's battery is ridiculously long lasting and I think it gives the device a unique advantage in this category.
Debate about the market position of Apex 2 versus Pace 3
do you think purchasing Apex 2 is still appealing?
wish I had waited lol
I ordered my Pace 3 this morning.
COROS added a lot of features since u/Otherwise-Way-7645 posted this
