Edelrid specifically advises against hanging ropes on a single coil and suggests storing it in a rope bag.

Positive Feedback

I would argue that a rope bag is a useless middleground between a tarp and a backpack.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Recommended for proper rope storage
Edelrid specifically advises against hanging ropes on a single coil and suggests storing it in a rope bag.
Don't hang your rope for storage.
I made my own rope bag for lead climbing from an old jacket.
Tagging your gear - BD 6mm line difficult to manage Hey everyone, was out yesterday doing some retrofit work on a short multipitch line.
Edelrid ropes are durable and have a nice feel
Edelrid boa is my favorite rope, its cheap but durable as hell and has really nice feel to it
Another vote for Edelrid but this time the Parrot - lovely handling and great colours
Great allrounder for indoor and outdoor, and survived many weird sport slabs and asventurous trad routes.
Edelrid TC Eco Dry rope has low static elongation
Depending on what you're doing, the Edelrid TC Eco Dry is arguably the best rope money can buy.
Quick storage feature is effective
I love everything about the print and how the liner compliments it
Good price for the Edelrid Boa rope
I have an edelrid boa and it is pretty nice and a good price.
Recommended for outdoor climbing with 60m rope
To your first question, go ahead and get a 60m rope if you are planning on climbing outdoors.
Convenience of using a rope bag
It's not necessary to use a rope bag but it is more convenient.
Effective for holding and storing ropes
28 or 38 liter pack for sport cragging. And does anyone have experience with Osprey Mutant packs?
I've use the Mutant 38L for sport climbing for about a year and I love it! I'm easily able to store a bladder, two pairs of shoes, draws, rope, harness, and some layers if needed and I still could manage to fit some other small items in there.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Rope bags seen as unnecessary
I would argue that a rope bag is a useless middleground between a tarp and a backpack.
Yea I guess, I think I'd rather just coil it and strap/tie it down to my pack at that point though.
I'd rather just coil the rope up in or on my backpack, and use my jacket as a tarp if I needed to.
Thoughtful deep dive into a controversial subject that is starting to get more popular.
Need for a dedicated gym rope if climbing frequently indoors
If you are going to be gym climbing a lot, and your gym doesn't have loaner ropes, a gym rope would probably be the best purchase.
Rope bag not necessary for climbing
keeping your rope clean without some sort of ground cover will be hard.
Just use an Ikea bag.
May lack space for larger gear configurations
everything should fit in the 38.
Go with the 38L if you want to put a rope inside.
I've been using my 38l mutant for sport climbing for about a year now (I bought it for mountaineering and ice climbing) and while it's a great pack for doing technical outdoors things, it is lacking in a couple features that are really important to me, especially for sport climbing (easy approaches and no need for hauling).

Discussion about different methods of storing ropes
Rope bag and just laying it down on the ground is probably the best way.
Same exact way of coiling the rope, place in a rope bag, hang the bag🫡 metolius has a nice cheap rope bag I use.
I coil my rope and then throw it into one of those reusable shopping bags and hang that up so it doesn’t rest on just one strand.
Discussion about using a rope bag versus other methods
Honestly still prefer the blue bag for cragging.
Rope bag fits in there with everything else i need + hydration pack + plenty of room for food and random things.

Comparison of using a rope bag versus other methods
If you want to be a hipster, you have to get an Ikea bag.
>I just see lots of people use them in the gym, it seems superfluous.
Made a little example video. It will feed well if you can lay the pile down flat or hang it on a hook of some sort.
Discussion on gear recommendations for climbing
Even though the 60m rope will be mostly used in the gym as I get experience leading, dynamic belay, and clipping.
But then again, I am not made of money haha.

Cautionary Callouts

Discussion about different types of rope bags
It fits my 70m with room to spare.
My friend has a Metolius rope bag that comes with some special kind of tarp so he can coil the rope inside it and then throw it off the tops of cliffs without having to flake it.
it does sound like it'd be ideal.
Discussion about preferences for different rope brands
Love it. Only used in the gym, so I’m not sure how it would stand up outside.
I've done lots or routes and whips on them.
