Snoop's Take

The TRANGO Antidote Rope Bag is designed to keep your climbing rope clean and organized while facilitating easy transport. With features like an oversized tarp and dual carrying straps, it caters to the needs of climbers looking for practicality and convenience. Despite its appealing design, user feedback reveals some dissatisfaction with the product's material quality. Consumers have reported that the bag feels "cheap and heavy," which raises concerns about its durability and overall usability during climbs. This sentiment suggests that while the bag has useful features, its construction may not meet the high standards expected by avid climbers. Given the mixed feedback regarding its material quality, the TRANGO Antidote Rope Bag may not be the best choice for serious climbers looking for a long-lasting solution. However, it does offer valuable features for casual users who prioritize organization over durability.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the utility of rope bags versus backpacks
I would argue that a rope bag is a useless middleground between a tarp and a backpack.
Yea I guess, I think I'd rather just coil it and strap/tie it down to my pack at that point though.
Yea, I guess that's the point; I would never use an ikea bag outside; I'd rather just coil the rope up in or on my backpack, and use my jacket as a tarp if I needed to.
Utility of rope bags versus backpacks
having a rope bag doesn't make sense -- using a tarp and strapping the rope to the top of a pack is easier.
Discussion about climbing gear and weight management
What must-have tools do you carry on every multi pitch trad climb?
I tend to go lighter but only been doing up to 3 pitches.
I prefer a simpler approach. The vast majority of the time, I do not use cordellettes or extend my rappel.
I would at least ditch the gloves, quicklink, and the grigri.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Suggestions for alternative climbing bags
If you have money to blow Black Diamond Creek, the 35L is a sweet spot for gym and outdoor TR/Sport climbing.
Also got a Cragsmith, love it.
Just bought the new (i think) Black Diamond Gear 30 and i love it.
Rope bag fits in there with everything else i need + hydration pack + plenty of room for food and random things.
Personal anecdotes about alternative uses for bags
If you want to be a hipster, you have to get an Ikea bag.
My friend has a Metolius rope bag (don't know the model, sorry) that comes with some special kind of tarp so he can coil the rope inside it and then throw it off the tops of cliffs without having to flake it.
Who said anything about just using it in a gym?
I use the DMM Classic. For gym stuff its great as I ca ln get my rope in there, harness and shoes.
Casual comments about rope bags being used in gyms
I have an actual rope bag but my rope stays in it at all times despite most of the time I use it in the gym
Discussion about different styles of rope bags
What type of rope bag do you use? There are a few different styles of rope bag that I've seen:
Discussion about homemade climbing bags
I made my own rope bag for lead climbing from an old jacket.

That’s pretty sweet
My brain skipped the word “bag” until the second picture. Ohhh you dodged a lecture about homemade ropes!!!
Alternative methods to prevent wrinkles
I feel like you could keep clothes from wrinkling just as well by wrapping them loosely around the contents of a regular bag, then hang them in the bathroom with a hot shower running.
Discussion on similar bags and their usage
Probably the style that was copied for these cheap ones, he loves them for short work trips where he needs a suit but also doesn’t want to check a bag.
Discussion about DIY rope bags
I've drug it around the crag for 10 months now and it's held up like a champ.
I like this idea a lot.
Holy shit. That’s great!!! Do any companies out there make bags similar to this?
Discussion about using lighter ropes for specific climbing situations
I have always climbed on a relatively fat (10mm Sterling) rope and recently made the switch to a 9mm Trango Catalyst after seeing a lot of positive feedback on the rope.
I've done that with an 8mm half rope for simul climbing and on sharp ridges.
Why not? It's rated for twin and half use.
We do it regularly ice climbing. Leader takes both tag ends and ties in.

Various recommendations for climbing bags
Bags? Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good bags to carry their gear in?
DMM classic rope bag.
I like the Wild Country Stamina for single pitch. It holds a 60m rope, shoes, harness, draws, and double rack pretty easily and will also have room for water and a lunch if you strap the helmet outside.
Mammut neon 45 has been amazing for me. Far cheaper than the Patagonia and Osprey crag bag.
Recommendations for climbing bags
Main things would be a large enough tarp and good weight.
Easy to flake into and out of bag, roll up and stuff in a pack or shoulder.
Comparison of budget bags
I'm convinced ikea rope bags follow the law of cheap sunglasses - the cheaper they are, the longer you'll have them.
4$?! Jezus! Could've had atleast 2 ikea bags for that money.
Recommendations for gear underestimated in value
I'm getting to the point where I dont need to make anymore big purchases like rope or quickdraws and I'm curious as to what gear you now have that you didnt really think to buy at first or totally underestimated the value brought to your rack.
Thing I underestimated the value of and *wish* I had bought: bipattern rope.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Climbing bags as status symbols
it literally doesn't matter for your use and what you are buying is purely a status symbol.
