It is my favorite small appliance!" Additionally, the flavor of percolated coffee is celebrated, as evidenced by comments like, "they say the reason percolated coffee tastes better is because the hot water goes through the coffee repeatedly." However, some users note that percolators can produce a burnt flavor if not brewed correctly. Its blend of quick brewing, ease of maintenance, and positive feedback makes it a solid choice in the coffee maker category.

I have the Elite Gourmet and love it! It is my favorite small appliance!

Positive Feedback

People should drink the coffee that tastes best to them, but the view of most coffee snobs is that this is actually a fatal flaw of percolators, which tend to produce burnt/overextracted coffee.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable and reliable performance
I have the Elite Gourmet and love it! It is my favorite small appliance!
I have the elite gourmet and it’s been flawless so far.
Honestly it is the only drip machine I recommend- not built cheaply in china and certified to hit the ideal 202F temp for coffee
We have one and it’s amazing! There are two different options. One has a carafe that keeps it warm and the other has a glass carafe w heating element in the base.
Easy to clean with dishwasher safe parts
So I'm guessing one factory in China makes a lot of these brands, just with different shells.
Quick brewing time for coffee
Every married coffee enthusiast the world over knows this feeling 😂
Fast brewing time for coffee
Yes, best coffee maker ever. We have the thermal carafe version, and it makes the perfect cup of coffee.
Love for percolated coffee flavor
I, too, love perked coffee. ❤️
They say the reason percolated coffee tastes better is because the hot water goes through the coffee repeatedly.
Durable with long-lasting use
My grandma had the same one for 30+ years. I was so confused the first time I tried making coffee with it.

Percolators can produce burnt coffee flavor

If you like a burnt cowboy coffee flavor then do it. If you like a more complex flavor I'd recommend pour over coffee in the 200-205 degree range.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Interest in yogurt and pasta features
If I want to upgrade later, I'd love to have the yogurt and pasta features so my first model is still useful.
Interest in non-plastic coffee makers
Minimal plastic/non toxic coffee makers? I know I can drop $500-$1000 on super high quality, glass/steel coffee makers, but does anyone have any recommendations for $100 or less coffee makers with minimal plastic/toxic parts?
There are so many non plastic ways to make coffee. All of the items I mentioned can be had for $100 or less.
I am confident any coffee maker you buy will be non-toxic. With your budget, they are all going to be basically the same.

Interest in grinding coffee beans for percolators
What’s the difference with the ground beans for this type of percolator? How do you do it (grind for a briefer time?)?

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on the brewing process of percolators.
Percolators work by boiling the liquid in the very bottom of the vessel, forcing water up the tube into the bulb and over the grounds.
Yeah percolators went out of style for a reason, the cheapest Mr coffee drip machine will make much better coffee, but they do work.
I bring the water to a boil and then put the guts in and turn the heat down low.
Just keep it on the heat until it starts to percolate. There will be plenty of noise once the water is boiling and coffee being made.
Discussion on coffee brewing methods and preferences
Percolated coffee is the best!!
I don’t think anyone would drink coffee they don’t care for no matter how it’s made.
It’s worth the extra few minutes because the coffee is full bodied and smooth.
I’m going to try a percolator!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Interest in coffee brewing methods
Hopefully will help my woes.
That's good to hear, my wife is fully against a gooseneck and the fact she's been ok with my espresso machine, eureka single dose, my k6 and all the brewers under the sun I think that's fair haha
I am saying this in a joking way, so if you think I am shaming hobbyists, or budget, or pourovers, etc, I am not. But doesn't it feel like us pourover hobbyists are getting closer to a regular high end coffee maker every day?
I use it all the time for travel.
Discussion about coffee preferences and brewing methods
It seems like every kettle I find on the internet is made in China and has terrible reviews.
Why Cheap Coffee Makers Suck (And How To Fix Them)
Discussion on coffee brewing temperatures
I understand that 170F is too hot for basically anybody to drink coffee at, but by the time she pours it in a (preheated) mug and adds milk, it's not hot enough for her.
The milk is the main culprit dropping the temperature. Before I pour my coffee, I fill my mug to my desired amount of h&h, zap it in the microwave for about 15 seconds and that brings it up from 40°F to 90°F.
Some areas have hard water, other much softer. We get our water that is relatively soft from Hetch Hetchy. it is just about perfect for coffee machines.
Interest in different coffee makers
The carafe keeps coffee hot for hours.
