Snoop's Take

The Elite Gourmet EC923 Electric Coffee Percolator is a versatile kitchen appliance designed to brew up to 12 cups of fresh coffee or tea quickly and efficiently. With features such as a clear brew progress knob, keep warm function, and a convenient cordless serve capability, it caters to coffee enthusiasts who appreciate both quality and ease of use. Consumer feedback on this percolator highlights its quick brewing time and ease of cleaning, with many users noting, "If I can make my second coffee of the day quicker because the water stayed hot, that’s a nice selling point." The metal construction is favored over plastic alternatives, and users appreciate that it offers a plastic-free brewing process. However, some concerns have been raised regarding the outdated perception of percolators, with a few users suggesting that they can produce burnt or over-extracted coffee due to their brewing method. Overall, despite some criticisms about the traditional percolator design, the Elite Gourmet EC923 is recommended for those who enjoy brewing flavorful coffee and value the nostalgic experience of percolation. Its robust features and positive user feedback make it a worthwhile option in its category.

Best coffee I've ever had came from a $40 Aeropress.

Positive Feedback

People should drink the coffee that tastes best to them, but the view of most coffee snobs is that this is actually a fatal flaw of percolators, which tend to produce burnt/overextracted coffee.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Quick brewing time
Best coffee I've ever had came from a $40 Aeropress.
Why Cheap Coffee Makers Suck (And How To Fix Them)
Every married coffee enthusiast the world over knows this feeling 😂
Farberware super fast coffee pot. Percolated coffee is the best!!
Easy to clean parts
I picked my Oxo based on the Seattle Coffee shootout and it wasn't there. I'd love the droplets test done for it.
Convenient cordless serving
It’s all about the temp dial, love my Oxo
Percolated coffee offers better taste
We grind our beans since it’s hard to find any coffee that’s not ground for the drip makers. But what a difference!
It’s worth the extra few minutes because the coffee is full bodied and smooth. It’s a big difference.
No plastic exposure in brewing process
perculators are a pretty good plastic-free option for coffee at home. Thanks for insight :)
Metal construction is preferred over plastic
Aren't coffee filters coated in plastics too?
I hadn’t considered one of those before. We use a steel coffee press, but that require two countertop devices. Cool.
Fond memories associated with percolators
I have heard A LOT of old white people say stuff like "man, I miss my percolator."

Percolators are considered outdated
People should drink the coffee that tastes best to them, but the view of most coffee snobs is that this is actually a fatal flaw of percolators, which tend to produce burnt/overextracted coffee.
Technology Connections actually has a really great [video](https://youtu.be/E9avjD9ugXc) on how percolators work and why they suck so much.
The reason the coffee is so terrible is it continually drips back down into the tank and the coffee itself is reheated and boiled up through the basket over and over again, just continually over extracting the coffee even after the grounds are long spent.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on the percolation process
Percolators work by boiling the liquid in the very bottom of the vessel, forcing water up the tube into the bulb and over the grounds.
I bring the water to a boil and then put the guts in and turn the heat down low.
Just keep it on the heat until it starts to percolate. There will be plenty of noise once the water is boiling and coffee being made.
Let the water boil, then add the ground basket, lower the burner a bit.
Discussion on coffee brewing and taste preferences
I've been spending too much money buying coffee so I went out and bought a Mr Coffee 4 cup. For 4 cups of water I use half a cup of coffee but it's always sour and bitter.
Two Tablespoons (1/8 cup) of grounds per cup (8 oz.) of water is a general guideline.
Would that affect it?
If you want to get really picky, 5 days after roasting is it's peak, and it starts getting worse after that.

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Percolators used in various settings, including camping
The modern countertop coffee brewer is a fairly modern thing.

Discussion on coffee temperature preferences
Good budget electric gooseneck kettle? Searching for a gooseneck kettle for a semi-budget v60 pourover setup. If anyone has tried it or knows how good this Sipologie gooseneck is, I'd appreciate it.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
General discussion about coffee making preferences and equipment.
Hopefully will help my woes.
This will help considerably.
my wife is fully against a gooseneck and the fact she's been ok with my espresso machine, eureka single dose, my k6 and all the brewers under the sun I think that's fair haha
I am saying this in a joking way, so if you think I am shaming hobbyists, or budget, or pourovers, etc, I am not.
Discussion on baking tips and preferences
I don't want to spend big for my first one and we don't really have used ones in my area.
Discussion about coffee temperature preferences
Does anybody have a recommendation for a coffeemaker that brews coffee at the recommended 195-205 range and keeps it hot?
The milk is the main culprit dropping the temperature. Before I pour my coffee, I fill my mug to my desired amount of h&h, zap it in the microwave for about 15 seconds and that brings it up from 40°F to 90°F.
Honestly it is the only drip machine I recommend- not built cheaply in china and certified to hit the ideal 202F temp for coffee.
We have one and it’s amazing! There are two different options. One has a carafe that keeps it warm and the other has a glass carafe w heating element in the base.
General preferences for coffee making methods
switched when the data came out about coffee oils that could be linked to elevated cholesterol levels.
Spending a ton on coffee and I would like to get a high quality coffee maker for my apartment.
Discussion on the longevity of electric kettles
Many people say that money is not worth it for an expensive kettle and better spend on a good grinder.
I can recommend it, I honestly don't know what else a kettle double the price could provide that this one doesn't.
Mine has been going strong 2 years. I’m yet to do anything more than wipe it down and the interior/ exterior finish has held up great.
Yeah, they didn’t skimp on the heating element in that sucker!.
Discussion about coffee preferences and brewing methods
I don’t think anyone would drink coffee they don’t care for no matter how it’s made.
If you like a burnt cowboy coffee flavor then do it. If you like a more complex flavor I'd recommend pour over coffee in the 200-205 degree range.
General nostalgia for vintage coffee makers
My grandma had the same one for 30+ years. I was so confused the first time I tried making coffee with it.
Discussion on the difference between percolators and drip coffee machines
They are very much not the same thing.
It’s totally separate from the percolator style of coffee brewer.
Nostalgia for percolators in American culture
Apparently peak popularity was in the '40s and '50s.
I assume you mean as opposed to espresso; the percolator was the standard way of making coffee from the 19th century in the US and was gradually replaced by the autodrip machine as the latter became popular in the 1970s.
