Farberware super fast coffee pot. Percolated coffee is the best!!

Positive Feedback

People should drink the coffee that tastes best to them, but the view of most coffee snobs is that this is actually a fatal flaw of percolators, which tend to produce burnt/overextracted coffee.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Percolated coffee offers robust flavor
Farberware super fast coffee pot. Percolated coffee is the best!!
They say the reason percolated coffee tastes better is because the hot water goes through the coffee repeatedly.
Percolated coffee is delightful.
It makes surprisingly good coffee. I have switched to the old perc pot most of the time.
Fast brewing time
1960's Vintage Farberware Electric Coffee Pot Percolator Superfast Model My wife picked this old beauty up at a thrift store around 6 months ago and it has been our daily driver since then!
Percolators are great! Got a stovetop farberware one last year after a third failed drip machine, and haven’t looked back since!
Durable and long-lasting product
My grandma had the same one for 30+ years.
I still have my stovetop, but I like the electric one better.
Mine'll last as long as yours.
Cleanup is easy with basket filters
This makes cleanup so easy.
Enjoyable percolated coffee flavor
Count me in for the percolating bandwagon!
Farberware Electric Percolator advise I love how my coffee tatses when I use my percolator but I was wondering if there are any tips on getting the best coffee from it.
Percolators are literally hitler and you should consider a French press or pourover method.
Reliable performance over time
Works well & never failed me.
The coffee that comes out at the very beginning of the brew cycle is extracting different flavours than the coffee at the end of the brew cycle.
Makes delicious coffee
Percolators really are great, I think I am going to start using it more than my drip machine!
I think it makes awesome coffee. It’s easy to make enough coffee for multiple people and it tastes way better than a drip machine.
Perco is definitely underrated. I could've packed my v60 for early mornings but percolator dark roast with sweetened condensed milk is just fine.
It's like a better french press imo.
Stainless steel construction is preferred
I don't really like the idea of the hot water going through them every day.
Sturdy and reliable vintage design
It's my favorite method of coffee preparation.

Percolators can produce burnt coffee flavor
People should drink the coffee that tastes best to them, but the view of most coffee snobs is that this is actually a fatal flaw of percolators, which tend to produce burnt/overextracted coffee.
I personally can't stand percolated coffee. I like french press and others, but I'll take drip coffee over percolated
Overall a bad way to make coffee
It's just overall a bad way to make coffee
Percolators require careful brewing to avoid poor results
If you think that perc'd coffee is good, an 8-cup Moka will blow your mind.
Moka IMO is a better design over the percolator that addresses its biggest problem by removing the guess work on brew time and making it more consistent.
Older percolators require manual timing and can be unreliable
How does an electric percolator know when to stop. Oddly can’t find this answer on first two pages of google easily :)
Be careful, the really old antique percolators didn't know, you had to time them and unplug them.
Cheaper percolators may stop brewing when water is low
Cheaper percolators stop once there is no water in the tank anymore. Yes, I'm looking at you, you Melitta shits.
Can overheat water leading to poor coffee
they do violate some of the basic tenants of coffee making by overheating the water and running it through the grounds multiple times.
Percolators can produce burnt or over-extracted coffee
They put the water through the coffee at boiling temp (bad) and then continue to boil the brewed coffee (even worse) and brew for too long.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Variety of coffee preferences shared
If you like a burnt cowboy coffee flavor then do it.
Nostalgia associated with percolators
I have heard A LOT of old white people say stuff like "man, I miss my percolator."
Percolators were also common for households because they were often used on a burner on the stove or set on top of the woodstove.
I think of the pots used when camping on a fire when talking about percolators. I have always liked that style of making coffee the best.
My grandparents always made their coffee this way with a farberware perc, so when I began drinking coffee in college it seemed like the obvious brewing choice.
Awareness of electric vs. stovetop percolators in different cultures
when I watched first time was a big TIL for me as electric/stovetop percolators are not a common thing in South America.
Discussion about the mechanics of how electric percolators function
When the coffee comes up to equal temperature as the heating element.
Discussion on preferences for different percolator designs
I brew coffee in mine on low heat without ever getting to boiling thanks to the superior design.
Hi, do you know of a percolator which is on the market that is based on the older design?
Hi, any chance you can send a link/a name of the perculator you have?

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on coffee grinding techniques for percolators
the coffee is full bodied and smooth. It’s a big difference.
Discussion of alternative brewing methods
If all you need is a small brewer, then the [BonaVita 1500ts] is only $80.
Most machines under this don't get water hot enough.
I'll suggest you get an Aeropress and an electric kettle (or some hot water source).
Discussion on coffee preferences and techniques
I think it's awesome.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Confusion between percolators and drip coffee machines
Way too many people here are confusing percolators and drip coffee machines.
It’s also confusing because drip and pourover undergo the percolation process in brewing.
Lack of variety in coffee percolator recipes
there just isn't a variety of "coffee percolator recipes" like there is for Aeropress or V60, and it doesn't require as much dialing-in as espresso, either.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Percolators' negative reputation due to reheating coffee
The reason the coffee is so terrible is it continually drips back down into the tank and the coffee itself is reheated and boiled up through the basket over and over again, just continually over extracting the coffee even after the grounds are long spent.
Technology Connections actually has a really great [video](https://youtu.be/E9avjD9ugXc) on how percolators work and why they suck so much
Concerns about aluminum contamination in coffee makers
https://www.coffeedetective.com/is-it-safe-to-make-coffee-in-an-aluminum-coffee-maker.html Also all
Coffee made the holes and I drank the aluminium.
Research on this is still very much ongoing and currently there isn’t any evidence of a direct link.
Discussion on traditional coffee makers without plastic parts
Coffee pot with no plastic? Do you guys know of a more traditional coffee pot that’s all stainless and glass?
Two years ago I did a deep dive to try to find exactly what you’re looking for and couldn’t find any.
We just use a French press...
Discussion on longevity of manual coffee makers compared to electric ones
And it made me realize that that’s probably by design.
My French Press is over 20 years old. Cost me $30, and it'll last forever, as long as I don't drop it.
Both of these methods will put any electric coffee maker to shame.
A Technivorm Moccamaster is a BIFL coffee maker. It also, and most don't, gets the water hot enough to brew good coffee.
Preference for other brewing methods like moka pots
Hoooooooleeee Jesus. That's a baller ass cup of coffee.
Discussion on alternative coffee brewing methods
Ever try butter or egg coffee, trust me, with a perk you would love it! God Bless those Swedes!!
Nostalgia associated with vintage percolators
Thank you for the information. It guided my purchase decision.
