Snoop's Take

The Mr. Coffee® 5-Cup Mini Brew Switch Coffee Maker is a compact and efficient coffee machine designed for those with limited kitchen space. It features a Grab-a-Cup Auto Pause function, allowing users to pour a cup before the brewing process is complete, and a Lift & Clean Filter Basket for easy maintenance. Consumer sentiment reveals that many users appreciate its compact design, stating, "I have a French press but use the $20 Mr. Coffee for work days when I’m just guzzling," highlighting its practicality for everyday coffee needs. While the Mr. Coffee Mini Brew is praised for its affordability and ability to produce decent coffee, some users express concerns regarding the quality of espresso and potential overflow issues. A user mentioned, "I went from drip coffee to a Breville Barista Express almost 2 years ago," indicating that those seeking high-end espresso may want to look elsewhere. Overall, this coffee maker is recommended for casual coffee drinkers looking for a budget-friendly and functional option, but may not satisfy those with more advanced coffee preferences.

I just don’t think these cheap coffee pots are really well suited for light roasts.

Positive Feedback

I don't really understand how that will produce a stronger brew though.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Compact design for small spaces
I just don’t think these cheap coffee pots are really well suited for light roasts.
I have a French press but use the $20 Mr. Coffee for work days when I’m just guzzling.
I did it and I LOVE IT. Thank you fam.
Grab-a-Cup Auto Pause feature
it turns the water on in bursts instead of full stream.
Reusable filter helps prevent overflow
Coffee machines overflowing!! Grrrr!! I’m so sick of this problem!!
A coarser grind will increase flow rate in the filter basket so it's less likely to overflow.
Works decent enough for basic coffee needs
works decent enough to make mediocre latte art and gets the job done :)
Can produce solid cups with good coffee
A Mr. Coffee isn't optimal, but it can still produce solid cups if you use good coffee and have an excellent grinder.
Good for basic coffee needs
Really coffee is just something for me to sip on the morning while I fast (diet).
Yes, it'll work just fine for what you're going for.
Mr coffee is a good brand and makes good coffee if you are not looking for perfection.
Produces decent steam pressure
I will have to relook into it at your request, my understanding is that it produces decent steam pressure but lacks crema in most instances.
The quality of the shot is well beyond what I would have expected!
Solid performance for the price point
40 Bucks you say? At that price point it will only have to perform reasonably and not break for a year and it'll be fantastic!
Durable machine lasting for years
It's actually been an incredibly solid machine.

Confusion about strong brew feature
I don't really understand how that will produce a stronger brew though.
The really good ones in the $40 range have a “bold” setting.
Quality and consistency issues with espresso
If you buy this, I wouldn't expect much in terms of quality and consistency of espresso.
I am only beginning to learn the art of espresso but even I can tell you not to buy that one.
I went from drip coffee to a Breville Barista Express almost 2 years ago and it's still my main machine.
Issues with coffee overflow leading to machine damage
I gave up and simply started making only 3-4 cups of 12 available. But I got impatient, threw it away in trash and got a French press.
Try coarser coffee grounds and measure the coffee by weight instead of scoops?
Design issues causing water to enter the basket too quickly
Guess I’ll have to start doing it with this one too.
Not a pump machine, which some users dislike
I presume people hate because it is not a pump machine? Correct?
Water doesn't get hot enough for proper extraction
Water doesn't get hot enough to fully extract the coffee grounds, the coffee grounds don't get saturated equally which results in an uneven brew.
Not all drip machines are bad, but many of them are designed poorly and with shortcuts.
Cheap components lead to failure
Those machines are made with the absolute cheapest components which wind up failing 2 years or sooner usually.
Difficulty cleaning inside tubes
you cant clean out the inside tubes in there that pipe the water in, and it'll calcify and get mineral buildups.
Inconsistent quality with espresso
I'm interested in how you were getting good crema and microfoam with this one- I had mine for about a year (full disclosure: I'm a bit of a noob at coffee anyway) and consistently had watery espresso and regular foam (not microfoam).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Advice for improving coffee quality with basic machines
What steps should I take as far as preparation to make the best possible coffee with a kind of crappy coffee maker?
A Good grinder and some light or medium roast beans will get you a good enough cup
Use good water. Weigh the water and coffee to get the proper ratio.
An alternative to all of the advice here is to make a ton of cold brew at a high concentration and then diluting it.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Encouragement to experiment with different coffee methods
Accidents' can turn into revelations. You can enjoy coffee with any brewing method.
Discussion about making iced coffee
Anyone having luck actually making a decent iced coffee with this? All mine taste so watered down with no flavor.
I would add in a pot full of ice underneath mr coffee and subtract the water you add to your coffee machine in total.
It's been decent in my experience. Unless you've had good results in the past with the grounds you're using, maybe mix it up with a different one?
Get a better brand of coffee that would be my suggestion.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about coffee brewing preferences
I have been enjoying both the simplicity and the increased volume of coffee.
Oh, that’s the “Daddy Coffee” model.
Clarifications about Mr. Coffee products compared to other brands
Tiny clarification: this is a Krups coffee *grinder*, rather than a coffee brewer/machine/maker.
Never heard of Mr coffee in the UK.
Sentimental value of receiving the machine as a gift
It's from momma, so love it with all your heart.
Discussion on coffee preferences
Are they into coffee, too?
Discussion about coffee brewing methods
Why do you all hate Mr. Coffee like machines and what can I do to better notice the difference
Discussion about evolving coffee tastes
I just need a cup of Joe to hold me over till noon.
Autodrip is problematic when beans require more intervention than is possible with the device.
Discussion about comparing espresso machines
I will try and snag one of these, it looks to be on par with the crema I get from an aeropress right now.
Once you switch from brew to steam, the crema starts to get...well, 'fluffier' is the only way I can describe it.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Nostalgia associated with older Mr. Coffee machines
Appears to have never been used by the looks of it.
I'm jealous. I don't know if they made better coffee or The nostalgia of Grandma's house
These are so basic and beautiful! I always have my eyes peeled for one! Great find! Cheers
Discussion about Mr. Coffee's history and production
My dad may have had a hand in that very machine, he used to supervise the injection molding lines that made the Mr Coffee.
Mention of a recall on older models
There was a recall… hence the tag on the power cord
Nostalgia for older Mr. Coffee machines
I remember the Mr. Coffee days. Those days immediately preceded my 'get up, go to coffee shop, go broke' days, which led to developing my pour-over setup and technique.
Discussion about limitations of budget espresso machines
Results from a sub-$100 machine will be drastically worse.
Maybe return it and put the money toward a different machine? If you're happy with espresso-like drinks, you could get a Moka Pot.
So it's not an actual espresso machine but rather a differently shaped moka pot.
You likely won't get drinks any better than your moka pot out of that Mr. coffee machine.
Discussion about the popularity of Mr. Coffee in the past
a Krups coffee machine became Mr Fusion on the Delorean
There was (maybe still is?) a brand of coffee maker called "Mr. Coffee." They were VERY popular-- as big as Keurig is today.
The Mr Coffee brand is still going, they make espresso and Keurig-compatible machines too now and are usually pretty cheap at Target/Walmart etc.
There is a famous coffee maker brand called Mr. Coffee, the brand made a few other things with similar naming schemes (Mrs. Tea for example) so there was a joke that in the future everything would be named Mr [device].
Humorous references to Mr. Coffee in pop culture
It’s a joke on Mr. Coffee.
The joke is that in the future, fusion reactors are as common for consumers as coffee machines.
Historical significance of Mr. Coffee machines
People have lost context of how radical the Mr. Coffee was in its time.
