Snoop's Take

The Segway Ninebot S2 Electric Self-Balancing Scooter is designed to enhance your commuting experience with a maximum speed of 11.2 mph and a range of 21.7 miles. Ideal for riders aged 16-50, it features a user-friendly learning mode that allows for a smooth introduction to self-balancing scooters. Consumer feedback highlights a mix of positive and negative experiences with this scooter. Many users appreciate the ease of use, noting that "it's so easy you can put almost anyone on it" which showcases its beginner-friendly design. However, some express concerns over durability and long-term usability, with comments such as "its highly redundant nature may have been great for reliability... but it also meant that a customer might not have to replace their transporter for decades." Additionally, balancing difficulties for heavier riders and maintenance issues have been noted, indicating a learning curve for new users. Overall, while the Segway Ninebot S2 offers an enjoyable ride for many, potential buyers should weigh the concerns around stability for heavier users and long-term reliability before making a purchase. It may be more suitable for light riders or those seeking a casual commuting option rather than heavy-duty use.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great riding experience for extended periods

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Too durable for planned obsolescence
Its highly redundant nature may have been great for reliability and safety, but it also meant that a customer might not have to replace their transporter for decades.
Too durable. The company wants planned obsolescence so they can make more money.
Long-term struggles of the product
the long-term struggles of a product that was supposed to revolutionize transportation, but never really took off.
Initially, I have made up my mind to buy Segway Ninebot Max G30P, but now I have come across Hiboy S2 Max, which is comparatively cheaper.
They're infamous for snapping in half.
Difficulty in balancing for heavier riders
I just can’t seem to balance myself on these things and always turns sideways.
Speed might be an issue. I find that anything under 3 mph makes it harder to balance for me.
It’s just a skill and they are more unstable than a bike...keep at it.
an F35 absolutely will not work for you. I weigh just about 220 lb and tried one, and to this day I’m not sure if there was something wrong with it or not.
Learning curve for new riders
Most scooters are designed to have riders up to 220 pounds. But realistically your weight would not cause balancing problems.
Just relax - I know it’s counterintuitive! - and focus on the middle distance, don’t tense up and lock onto your immediate area.
I would rather have an Electric Scooter rather than a Self Balancing. I just don't have the full trust in the technology.
Small tires and low power motor unsuitable for adults
Looks like maybe a decent cheap scooter for a kid to play with, but not much practically to it with the small, honeycomb tires and anemic motor.
Tyre too small, no thx
The 250w motor and the small solid tyres make this more of a kids scooter than something an adult rider should consider.
Perceived as a kids' scooter
It might be a good scooter for someone in the teenage range, or a very light adult rider who only needs a last mile ride.
Do not buy Hiboy if you value your life.
The original Segway PT from 20 years ago was self balancing, but it wasn’t really considered a scooter in the traditional sense.
Exposed electronics are concerning in wet conditions
The exposed electronics while it's raining is kind of concerning
Unreliable design and maintenance issues
The ESx has a well-deserved reputation for unreliability and discomfort.
Requires significant mental and physical effort to ride
I know a scooter, much like a bike, can be ridden with your brain on autopilot allowing for leisurely strolls until you get bored.
Perceived as not worth the investment compared to alternatives
I guess I feel that an electric scooter isnt really worth more than $300, not to me anyway.

But the word "rolling" already exists, and is a perfect descriptor for what they do.
