Snoop's Take

Smith's CCKS 2-Step Knife Sharpener is a compact, handheld tool that delivers a dual-stage sharpening process ideal for quick edge restoration in outdoor emergencies. It efficiently sharpens various knife types with a preset coarse and fine slot, making it a practical, albeit no-nonsense, solution when you need an edge in a hurry. User feedback is a roller coaster of sardonic wit and practical advice: one review noted, 'if you want to shave arm hair you can,' illustrating both its humor and utility, while others praise its emergency reliability despite cautioning against potential long-term edge damage due to the pull-through design. Overall, despite mixed reviews and concerns over precision and durability for everyday use, this sharpener is recommended as a handy backup tool rather than a primary sharpening system for serious chefs or professionals.

Handy to have for emergencies, but for everyday use I would get a Spyderco Sharpmaker or the Lansky System.

Positive Feedback

There are a number of good systems which will give you a nice edge without ruining your knife.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Handy for emergency sharpening
Handy to have for emergencies, but for everyday use I would get a Spyderco Sharpmaker or the Lansky System.
That said it awesome to have on hand when camping or on the move just in case.
If you want to shave arm hair you can.
Good for making an dull knife into a somewhat usable knife, especially if you have no knife sharpening skill.
Good long-term durability in some units
Mine are still going nicely after about a year and a half.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Carbide pull‐through design may damage knife edges
There are a number of good systems which will give you a nice edge without ruining your knife.
I would never suggest carbide pull through sharpeners unless you are really in a bind.
Durability issues with rough diamond component
My only complaint would be how quickly the rough diamond loses its bite.
After a while you could feel the yellow stone skipping on the surface rather than biting.
Pull‐through design may damage knife edges
I would never use a pull through on my chef knives.
Generally pull-through sharpeners are garbage in my opinion.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Tri-Hone system: oil lubrication and stone performance
It does work better with oil than water, but either will work.
Similar stones from Norton are a great setup.
The course is pretty aggressive and moves metal really fast.
Rem oil is a good alternative for a thinner oil and has a ton of uses.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Optimizing dual grit stone performance and technique
A slightly finer stone might make it easier to achieve the sharpness you're looking for, but it can certainly be done with what you have.
Honestly stones that course will leave you with a very aggressive and unrefined edge.
In my opinion, we need course stones.
Now you have me a little worried though bc ive been soaking the stone in water every time.
Alternative field sharpening tool recommendations
if I had to choose just one between the three it would be the Field Sharpner all day.
Get your blades nice and sharp before you go and they should last the weekend.
I just use the back of my belt as a strop.
It’s better to have something and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Avoid leaving knives in the sink for safety
you aren't supposed to leave knives in the sink because someone coming by to wash dishes can very easily cut themselves if they're unaware that a knife is there.
Time is precious in a kitchen and that water can get murky as shit. Do not put knives in the sink.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Preference for traditional wet stone sharpening over automated systems
I swear it made it more dull. I’ve since switched to wet stones.
I bet an old grandpa with a wet stone could do a better job.
Humorous exaggerations about knife sharpness
it so sharp it cut the video in half
thing could be as blunt as a hammer and we'll never know.
