Snoop's Take

The Kitchen Mill Electric Grain Mill is designed for home users who want to grind their own grains quickly and efficiently. This high-speed mill can produce up to 24 cups of fresh flour in under eight minutes, making it a convenient option for those who enjoy baking with freshly milled ingredients. Consumer feedback highlights the mill's ability to produce fine and flavorful flour with quotes like, "Love the freshness of the flour." Users appreciate the convenience of the gap adjustment feature, noting, "it is ridiculously convenient compared to my old mill." However, some have raised concerns about the mill's fragility and noise levels during operation, mentioning that it can be slow and may not provide the fine grind desired for whole wheat flour. Overall, while The Kitchen Mill Electric Grain Mill is recommended as a great starter option for occasional use, those looking for a more robust and frequent milling experience may want to consider alternatives like the Mockmill for better performance.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Produces fine flour quickly
I personally am addicted to Kamut loaves right now.
I like milling my own whole grains to the fineness that suits me.
Produces fresh and flavorful flour
Love the freshness of the flour.
It is in my opinion worth it because you get fresher more flavorful flour of higher varieties (at least in my experience).
Good starter grain mill for occasional use
It's a good starter grain mill if you don't plan to mill your own grains super often and a nice way to test out if you like it.
It is great to start off with and see if you like working with fresh milled flour, but I would recommend a mockmill if you are really wanting to get into it.
Convenient gap adjustment
I don't modify the settings as much as I thought I would, but when I do change the gap it is ridiculously convenient compared to my old mill.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Fragile parts in attachments
The 100 and 200 design is much better.
Slow milling speed
It’s very slow and loud, but can get the job done for cheap.
Coarse grinding for fine flour needs
I tested it once. Never could get whole wheat ground as finely as I would like, even with multiple passes.
Not suitable for frequent milling
It’s the hardest attachment on the motor. If you use your mixer for other things, I’d suggest getting a standalone unit.
Makes noise during operation
It makes noise but no louder than a pump. It is chain driven so it will be a little louder than belt but for quality and longevity, you want a chain
Slow milling speed of attachments
Mockmill attachment rather. It powers through in no time and it's a stone mill.
Kitchenaid mill attachment is slow and noisy
Personally I think this mixer attachment is very loud (mainly noise from the stand mixer because you have to use it at max speed) and it takes a long time to mill a batch if flour.
I purchased this KitchenAid mill attachment thinking it would do well for making flour, but it’s really quite slow and doesn’t give a good grind for quality flour even when putting the grain through it twice.
I have one. I was dissatisfied with how course the final product was and eventually stopped using it and bought a Mockmill.
It’s still noisy though.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on milling efficiency and capacity
Ultimately will be starting with rustic loaf breads, but eventually may even want to bolt my flour and do cakes or pastries, and pastas.
I just don’t think the attachment is worth it.
Interest in grain milling outcomes
Just curious if it’s worth me investing if it’s not producing much in three minutes.
Discussion on milling options and experiences
I’ve been baking 100% whole wheat bread and I’d like to up my game, get some wheat berries and mill my own wheat flour.
The fresh bread, pancakes and rolls have been so worth it.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend using the mill attachment. This dough is a lot more dense & tbh the kitchen aid struggles with a 2 1lb loaf recipe.
Interest in milling options and experiences
there’s so much yet so little online.
Try Komo Brand from pleasant hill grain.
And consider upgrading to a stronger mixer- Bosch or Ank are often recommended to handle mixing heavier whole wheat flour w/o burning up/killing the motor.
I’d like a grain mill one day but the blender works for now.
Discussion on grain mills with a preference for metal or stone materials
Any suggestions? What were mills built of prior to the 1950s when plastic picked up the pace in popularity?
How about a [Monster Mill](https://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com/store/pc/Monster-Mills-c3.htm)?
All wood and metal and still works great
Discussion on grain mill attachments' performance
this grinder is incredibly slow. It can take up to 45 min to grind 4 cups of flour.
all attachments are slower than standalone mills.

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Interest in watching reviews and videos about grain mills
I'm interested to watch the video the other person posted.
Interest in home milling and personal experiences
I don't eat traditional ice cream but do make my own sorbet and gelato.
Wow! You are dedicated! Good way to burn off the calories you will be baking🤣
Recommendations for YouTube resources on milling
She knows what she's doing and is a GREAT teacher.
Interest in growing and milling own grain
My first experiment, on the finest setting, was too fine - it went right through my sifter and I only removed maybe 15% of the bran.
I find it takes a lot of sifting, and occasionally regrinding the leftovers to get all of the endosperm I want and not lose 30% of my flour weight.
Why do you want to remove that much bran? That’s the good stuff !!
So the KitchenAid mill is not necessarily an obstacle to getting this right, if I really work on the sifting?

Comparison of different grain mills and attachments
Here is whole review video on the Nutrimill Harvest Grain Mill and talks about the kitchen aid mill attachment too.
I have the MockMill attachment. It’s beyond excellent imo
Discussion on home milling techniques
I plan on trying to make entirely home milled but I def need to do a lot of experimenting and research!
Yeah, I have a notebook where I am keeping track of all my bakes using homemilled stuff.
I accept that it will never be like making it with store bought flour. I put it in a loaf pan or cake pan, don't bother with shaping and bake it for near an hour uncovered.
Comparisons of different grain mills
It’s a serious mill.
this thing is built to last
Concerns about rising grain prices
Hard to believe how many ingredients are in a loaf of bread.
Discussion on home flour mill recommendations
Some are $350 plus, are the higher priced ones worth it?
I mill all of my flour now.
It’s actually quite decent.
For those small volumes its perfectly fine but you couldnt use it if you wanted to mill all the flour for your own bread.
Comparisons to other grain mills
Superior!!!
Discussion on the differences in grain milling needs for brewing vs. baking
I'm wondering if I can buy her a grain mill for her birthday that I could also use for beer etc.
A roller mill isn't going to grind down to a fine powder/flour.
Interest in making superfine flour and suitable mills
Can anyone recommend a 00 flour mill? I'm interested in making superfine flour from wheat and amaranth I'm growing.
You'll need to sift it regardless. I have a mockmill for my kitchen aid, and it can grind quite fine, but it always needs to be sifted.
Any good mill will have adjustments. IDK about electric mills, I never looked into those.
Discussion on comparing standalone mills to attachments
Yes. Some stand-alones are faster and somewhat quieter, but they will cost more as well.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on home grain mills without specific mentions of The Kitchen Mill.
Probably a long shot, but does anyone on here have any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best out of the following home grain mills
The mega-long warranty & improved internal hardware components will cover me for nearly the next decade of baking.
Can you send recipe for this bread?
Working with fresh-milled flour is a lot different than working with store-bought bread & AP flours, so there's some practice involved in learning how to get good results with it.
Discussion on the longevity of whole grains vs. milled flour
remember that grains last much longer than milled flour, so you can buy, e.g. 25 or 50lbs and be OK as long as you store it well
Discussion on various hand-powered grain mills
Hand-Powered grain and flour mills? Looking for recommendations for a hand-driven flour mill, to turn wheat grain and corn into a usable flour.
The cheaper ones are a false economy. The Victorio Deluxe, Wondermill Jr. etc all produce really inferior flour to the CLGM and often are harder/more tiring to use as well.
I went with the wonder mill jr deluxe for this reason. I did this because it has a masa auger if you want to make tortillas or tamales, you can also make various nut butters and grind oily grains.
It was also just a little junky feeling compared to the others, but I wouldn't have disqualified for that if it had made as good of flour as either the CLGM or Komo.
Concerns about the effectiveness of other grain milling options.
Could I just dip my toe in grinding wheat berries in my vitamix? Or do I need to use a mill to get flour that works?
I ended up getting a KoMo stand alone mill and love it! I use it all the time and don't buy flour anymore.
Wow! So detailed and helpful. I expect to use mostly wheat flour, so it's really helpful to know the vitamix isn't great for that.
The kitchen aid Mockmill attachment is only marginally cheaper than a MM100, so you’re better off getting the 100.
Discussion about manual grain mills and their regrets.
Grain Mills? Looking to invest in a good solid manual grain mill. I see they can get pretty expensiv
Everyone who's ever bought a manual one has regretted it real quick.
I bought my manual (Victorio Deluxe) close to a year ago and I have no regrets.
This is the one I'd most recommend. It makes the best flour of all of them.
