Snoop's Take

The Kitchen Mill Electric Grain Mill is a high-speed, efficient grinder designed for milling grains, beans, and legumes into flour. Proudly assembled in the USA, its stainless steel milling chamber ensures durability and produces nutrient-rich flour in under eight minutes. Consumer feedback highlights several strengths of The Kitchen Mill, with many users praising its ability to produce flour with better taste and freshness compared to store-bought options. One user noted, "I have accepted that it wont have the same texture and gluten development but the taste is so much better that the trade off is worth it." Additionally, it is considered an affordable option for those starting their journey into home milling, although some users found it limited for larger tasks, mentioning its inadequacy for extensive milling needs. Based on user sentiment, The Kitchen Mill is recommended for those looking for an entry-level grain mill that offers great flavor and freshness in their flour. However, serious bakers may want to consider more robust options as they scale their milling needs.

I like milling my own whole grains to the fineness that suits me.

Positive Feedback

The KitchenAid attachment works but it's fairly fragile as I just broke a couple of plastic tabs dropping it.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to mill grains to preferred fineness
I like milling my own whole grains to the fineness that suits me.
Home-milled flour has better taste than store-bought
I have accepted that it wont have the same texture and gluten development but the taste is so much better that the trade off is worth it.
Freshness of home-milled flour
Love the freshness of the flour.
It is in my opinion worth it because you get fresher more flavorful flour of higher varieties (at least in my experience).
Longer shelf life of whole grains
remember that grains last much longer than milled flour, so you can buy, e.g. 25 or 50lbs and be OK as long as you store it well (to keep vermin and bugs out).
Affordable starter grain mill
It's a good starter grain mill if you don't plan to mill your own grains super often and a nice way to test out if you like it.
It is great to start off with and see if you like working with fresh milled flour, but I would recommend a mockmill if you are really wanting to get into it.
It’s very slow and loud, but can get the job done for cheap.
Good noise level compared to other mills
It makes noise but no louder than a pump.
It makes some noise, but it is not that disruptive.
Not messy compared to previous mills
It is not messy like our last one (it keeps the dust down) it is quieter and very large for our 5g batches.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
KitchenAid attachment is fragile
The KitchenAid attachment works but it's fairly fragile as I just broke a couple of plastic tabs dropping it.
Coarseness of flour
I tested it once. Never could get whole wheat ground as finely as I would like, even with multiple passes.
KitchenAid attachment is inadequate for larger milling tasks
you couldnt use it if you wanted to mill all the flour for your own bread

I’m impressed with it.

Both seem quite nice, but the Spike is cheaper obviously.
Buy the geared 3 roller Monster Mill; you’ll never want for more.
Discussion about the materials used in grain mills
Any suggestions? What were mills built of prior to the 1950s when plastic picked up the pace in popularity?
How about a [Monster Mill](https://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com/store/pc/Monster-Mills-c3.htm)?
All wood and metal and still works great
Users share experiences with grinding various grains
I ended up getting a KoMo stand alone mill and love it! I use it all the time and don't buy flour anymore.
Wow! So detailed and helpful. I expect to use mostly wheat flour, so it's really helpful to know the vitamix isn't great for that.
Discussion about the efficiency of different grain mill attachments
Superior!!!
It powers through in no time and it's a stone mill.
Metal grinder, but cheaper and seems it can handle nut butters.
Discussion about the differences between roller mills and grain mills
I'm wondering if I can buy her a grain mill for her birthday that I could also use for beer etc.
A roller mill isn't going to grind down to a fine powder/flour.

Looking for something similar to what we have in homes in india.
There are many levels of burr mill coffee grinders out there.
Two good online resources are Pleasant Hill Grain and Breadtopia.

Discussion about the benefits of milling at home
Do you recommend buying a grain mill for the home and if so, how difficult is it to find whole grains?
Wow! You are dedicated! Good way to burn off the calories you will be baking🤣
Users sharing experiences with different milling techniques and tools
I’d like a grain mill one day but the blender works for now
Discussion about growing wheat and milling at home
My first experiment, on the finest setting, was too fine - it went right through my sifter and I only removed maybe 15% of the bran.
I find it takes a lot of sifting, and occasionally regrinding the leftovers to get all of the endosperm I want and not lose 30% of my flour weight.
Why do you want to remove that much bran? That’s the good stuff !!
So the KitchenAid mill is not necessarily an obstacle to getting this right, if I really work on the sifting?
Users discuss alternative milling options
Could I just dip my toe in grinding wheat berries in my vitamix? Or do I need to use a mill to get flour that works?
The kitchen aid Mockmill attachment is only marginally cheaper than a MM100, so you’re better off getting the 100.
It’s noisy to run but pumps out flour at an Ok rate. I only do abut 250g at a time and it takes less than a minute for a corse grind and a little longer for a finer grind.

Discussion about home grain mills and recommendations
Probably a long shot, but does anyone on here have any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best out of the following home grain mills
It's pricey ($800 USD), but the Mockmill 200 **Pro** has a *12-year* residential warranty
Can you send recipe for this bread?
Working with fresh-milled flour is a lot different than working with store-bought bread & AP flours, so there's some practice involved in learning how to get good results with it.
Discussion about different types of grain mills and their effectiveness.
All of this to say I need a grain mill because the blender just isn't going to cut it, but the cost is a little dicey as i am still starting with this side of things, and I also have a limited amount of counter space so another dedicated appliance isn't ideal.
My opinion has always been that for not much more money you can get a mill that mills much faster and higher capacity.
I definitely think a stone mill is the way to go.
It’s beyond excellent imo
People share experiences and recommendations for home milling.
I have the kitchen aid mill, and I very much like it. I do have the $1000CAD commercial kitchen aid, and it grinds without a problem.
Home milling requires higher hydration levels
you're going to need a higher hydration level than you normally would because the flour with soak it up really quickly.
Discussion about alternatives like Nutrimill and Mockmill
It’s the hardest attachment on the motor. If you use your mixer for other things, I’d suggest getting a standalone unit. I love my Nutrimill.
Users are considering various milling options and brands.
Does anyone have an opinions on the Victoria cast iron grain grinders?
I read reviews and a metric buttload of YouTube, bought the NutriMill Classic stone mill, gave me the most options, not cheap but only buy once.
Hard to believe how many ingredients are in a loaf of bread.
I recently got a wonder mill one and am super happy with it.
Discussion about the need for sifting when milling fine flour
You'll need to sift it regardless.
Clarification about the meaning of 00 flour
Any good mill will have adjustments.

Users are satisfied with their existing grain mills.
I have never, not even for a second, wanted or felt the need to upgrade, and thats from someone who loves to upgrade everything else.
Users tracking their baking experiments with home-milled flour
I plan on trying to make entirely home milled but I def need to do a lot of experimenting and research!
Users share experiences with grain mills
the flavor is unparalleled.
Discussion about the effectiveness of various grain mills
Some are $350 plus, are the higher priced ones worth it? Kitchen aid has one, but I’d assume it’s junk.
It’s a serious mill.
The Mockmill 200 is awesome and well worth the money, I’ve been using it for close to two years now no complaints.
I mill all of my flour now.
