The 5 reminds me of a softer OG novablast and ASICS is headed back in the right direction imo.

Positive Feedback

Bad enough look to have to recall multiple types of krabs for multiple failure modes, but also slings?

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Feels softer than previous versions
The 5 reminds me of a softer OG novablast and ASICS is headed back in the right direction imo.
Fully battery powered for convenience
No more hoses and need to be near a power outlet now that it is fully battery powered.
Improves blood circulation and recovery
the intense squeeze further increases blood circulation thereby improving recovery.
Don’t care if it placebo or not — I love em
Simple to follow for beginners
Although my watch does say my training status is ‘overreaching’.
Lightweight setup for climbing
This is the lightest setup I have found.
Reasonable price for strength
The price is reasonable, too.
Useful for shifting weight with heavy loads
I ruck with 40kg, and I think it is useful.
It's not like I hold them the whole time.
Handy for giving shoulders a temporary break
Seems like it would be handy for giving the shoulders a temporary break with heavy loads.
Lightweight and low profile for climbing
Small slings? I bought a handful of these to temporarily replace some sus cam slings.
You could use them to sort/store gear. At home or in the pack.
Useful for carrying awkward items
So, it really depends on the thing you're carrying I think.
Being one of the tallest ones there it was constantly on my shoulders and was horrible.
Always good to have in a pack
Runners are always a good thing to have log or not.
I swear by always having them in my pack, but only break them out 1/4 of the time.
Functional with extra space
Aside from more space I like that the day sling is not too slanted when wearing cross body making it easier to pull things out.
I’ve had my city sling 2 for a couple years and it’s been great for my overseas travels.
It zips open nicely to display the contents well.

Concerns about manufacturing quality

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Previous models had different features
Still, they were an excellent purchase given their lifespan, and the only failure they've had is one zipper handle broke.
Discussion on dynamic rope style construction
Sheath + Core?
Discussion on terminology for 240cm slings
I was out doing a private class with a guide and we were talking about something when I said, “Oh yeah, and maybe you could bring a quad for that.”
A quad is just the anchor, in common parlance.
I use my quad length sling to tie a quad, and usually leave it untied and coiled on my harness.
Discussion on carrying capacity and design changes
Maybe overall L would have been better size.
Debate on the utility of nylon vs. Dynex runners
I was thinking of bringing some nylon climbing runners or daisy chains to help the team sling the weight and distribute it easier vs carrying it solely on our shoulders.
A couple of lengths of 2" webbing 6' to 8' long might be more useful in various situations.
Manufacturing moved back to SLC
Black diamond has actually moved all their climbing hardware manufacturing back to SLC.
Discussion on the effectiveness of dyneema in anchors
REI said it can be used for anchors.
Dyneema is so slick that I wouldn't like using it like that.
Both generate incredibly high impact forces from their lack of stretch.
Discussion on the strength ratings of slings
a knotted sliding x is one of the few anchors that offers dynamic equalization, so it more effectively distributes the force than a cordallette anchor with a bfk (big fucking knot) tied in it.
The guys at the gym don't know what they're talking about. That thing is rated to 22 kn's you're fine.
Clarification on the role of stretch in anchors
suggesting one over the other in a role where the point isn't shock absorption seems a trivial distinction.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on the utility of slings in rucking
Any advice about Nylon Sling Runner ? I see that these king of items could be useful.
Curiosity about alternative uses for slings
I was hoping maybe someone has found a novel use for them other than just throwing them away.
Discussion on making DIY slings from webbing
I just bought my first ice axe, BD Raven, and was considering buying a pre-made sling until I noticed the prices.
Works about as well as a leash but be aware not to get tripped up by the slack when you are walking.
If you want a long sling that you can clip to your harness open up the webbing and run a piece of elastic cord inside.
Discussion on extending placements with slings
Further Extending DMM Cams The DMM Dragon cam can extend w the attached dyneema sling, but what if you want to extend it further?
Three choices.
Yup this is great. Normally I carry ~4 alpine draws on the harness and the rest in runner-runner style.
Just clip to the sling on the cam... An unused carabiner on a cam does not mean yer gonna die.
Advice on using dogbones for better organization with quickdraws
They keep the gates oriented the right way, and will stay more organized on your harness.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Available for purchase before official release
A lot of volume, and almost feels like it's starting to lean max cushiony, but cuts a tiny bit of weight from the 4, feels less bulky, and has a bit of pep.
Comparing pressure levels with other brands
I have been looking at these too.
Preference for different types of slings based on usage
The sewn label and ease of unraveling an alpine draw is worth the premium price imo.
I have a bunch of dyneema slings that I use for setting because it doesn't matter what I use in these situations and they were what was on hand in the gym when I needed some.
Preference for different sling lengths
Get 2 cordos, for when you inevitably climb with someone who doesn't have one.
Curiosity about a 240cm version
Does anyone know if they will release a 240cm version? It would be excellent for multipitch anchors!
Concerns about fit based on body shape
I want to love this bag but after fiddling around with stuffing various pockets and whatnot, it feels like this may not be the bag for me :(
Discussion on replacing climbing gear based on usage and storage
Given that you're supposed to replace any soft gear after 5 years
Yes, runners like the ones you linked will work fine.
Comparative opinions on different models
I like the look of the sleek city sling 2 but the functions on the day sling 3 looks alot better, anyone have experience?

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Trade off between strength and shock load performance of materials
The trade off with UHMWPE is that it is much stronger per weight, but weaker under shock load.
Debate between Dyneema and nylon slings
nylon slings are just as strong and benefit from stretch
Safety of Dynex/Dyneema runners for top rope anchors
I was freaked out after watching the video, [Break Nylon & Dyneema Slings](http://dmmclimbing.com/knowledge/how-to-break-nylon-dyneema-slings/), and I was wondering if you guys could provide me your thoughts about the safety of our Dynex runner.
The bottom line is that these videos are talking about what happens when **static** material is **dynamically** loaded.
Any sling or cord will work without concern for top roping.
Debate on gear failure frequency
Failure isn't exactly a competition. You climb log enough you'll see gear fail.
Concerns about event regulations for gear
Bring em. The Cadre will let you know if you can use them or not.
Discussion about the product recall and its implications
Black Diamond, a climbing equipment manufacturer, have a new product recall for slings.
All of the affected carabiners are US made and again the numbers of actually defective pieces are minuscule (from what I know 1 locker, 2 wire gates) but out of an abundance of caution the company is asking all of us to recheck the peening of the wire gate on some models and how far the screw lock closes on others.
Their current carabiner recall is pretty bad too.
From the carabiner steps, they seem to be pointing out all the areas that could possibly go wrong with their biners, not necessarily where a problem has already been identified.
Discussion about recall implications
Please share the word.
Warning regarding the dangers of old quickdraws
Serious warning here, the photo is a bit grim!
Confusion about the CE tags and their relation to gear safety
Did you read the rest of your source?
Debate on using nylon vs. dyneema for slings
Personally I think the stretch in Nylon is a bit of a red herring.
low stretch ropes (as sold in the EU) actually need to be reasonably good shock absorbers to be certified, so if you wanted to improve the ability of your anchor to absorb shock loads switching from dyneema to low stretch rope would actually be a pretty good choice.
Conversation about knotting dyneema and its implications
dyneema doesn't hold knots well
I criticized it for being not stretchy enough because it isn't stretchy enough in a cordelette setup that I would likely use.
Discussion on reflective badges for safety
Reflectors are a legal requirement in many Scandinavian countries for at least school kids, so fjallraven just add a compliant one as standard to their models marketed as school bags.
That is a good idea!
