Snoop's Take

The Sterling 12mm Dyneema Climbing Sling is a robust and versatile tool designed for climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. With a MBS rating of 5,170 lbs, this 10" blue sling offers reliable support for various climbing setups, particularly top roping. Consumer feedback highlights several strengths, particularly its ease of use for beginners and suitability for top rope setups. Users have stated, "I did enjoy how simple it was to follow," and many appreciate its convenience for small carries, as one user noted, "Getting the right sling for the right carry matters." However, there are some concerns regarding its comfort compared to traditional backpacks and the complexity of the setup for top-roping, with one user remarking that the setup can be "way too complicated." Overall, the Sterling 12mm Dyneema Climbing Sling is recommended for those seeking a reliable and effective climbing sling, especially for top rope configurations. While there are areas for improvement, the positive feedback clearly outweighs the negatives, making it a solid choice in its category.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Simple to follow for beginners
I did enjoy how simple it was to follow.
Suitable for top rope setups
I was freaked out after watching the video, and I was wondering if you guys could provide me your thoughts about the safety of our Dynex runner.
Any sling or cord will work without concern for top roping.
Great for top rope setups
Made my first anchor for top rope.
Convenient for small carries
Getting the right sling for the right carry matters.
If I just need a 10000mAh backup battery, a phone cord, wallet, and keys, I don't want to use a 10L+ backpack for that.
For 1.5L-2L, the first Chrome option you gave could certainly work.
I want to put my phone, wallet, and keys inside so I can keep my pockets empty.
Sling is viable for various builds
Way to make slings viable? As it says above, is there a way to make a sling hit like a truck? Or at least a small compact car?
The sling **is** viable.
Easy to conceal and gather ammunition
Anywhere chunky jewelry and ordinary clothing are allowed, it should be possible to wear necklaces of semi-precious bullets along with functional slings repurposed as straps or hidden within other leather features.
Unique advantages as a one-handed weapon
Barring Artificer's Repeating Weapon infusion, every weapon with the *ammunition* property is effectively a two-handed weapon.
Redundant safety due to dual slings
You're good. This anchor is fine.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Too intense and involves too much speed work
I knew Runna was going to be too intense for me as soon as I'd paid my subscription.
Less comfortable than traditional backpacks
there was no situation it’s really better than a small city backpack.
I prefer a cross body bag like a small messenger or something like my Roots Raiders bag to a sling.
Cannot pair with a shield effectively
No, you can't pair a sling with a shield. But it's still a relevant distinction because it means the sling is eligible for features like hex warrior which specify a one handed weapon.
Complicated setup for top-roping
Bomber but way too complicated.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for simpler gear setups
I hate waiting for people to wind up their cordellettes before they climb every pitch!
There's smaller, lighter belay options with passive locking features.
Discussion about the product's appearance
Who’s preordering one and why? Sterling by MM Joe Dart collection I, II & II I saw their post from Instagram and thought the one with p pickups looks cool!
Historical context of the sling's use
There are a **lot** of ways the 5e sling is . . . different from what historical precedent would suggest it should be.
Of course, the heavy infantry were the heart of the legions. But the slingers were their primary and preferred artillery forces through the entire Classical period.
Preference for using specific types of cords for friction hitches
the risk of using nylon was non existent.
a good piece of 5mm cordelette works just fine too.
The Hollowblock is awesome! But I would recommend the smaller 13.5" over the 19".
6mm cord loop. Your prusik would probably never get hot enough to melt.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about personal anchor devices
Don’t use a daisy chain for a personal anchor device.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about gear choices for specific climbing areas
The gunks is the most well-manicured trad area in the world, and it's at most 3 pitches long.
Advice on using static rope for climbing setups
Get yourself a 100’ of static rope, probably 9mm or so, for trees.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about dynamic loading of static materials
Bad things (can) happen.
Discussion on houseruling slings for realism
You should start by houseruling slings to be more realistic.
Debate on ammunition rules and mechanics
there is, in fact, a specific exception in the rules for slings, and it's found in the description of the ammunition property
the state does exist, if only for slings
Discussion about the implications of providing false references
Sterling Background Check ⚠️ I NO LONGER ANSWER QUESTIONS & ACCEPT MESSAGES ⚠️ As one of the PREVI
I lied about the time period I worked there but my old coworkers said they would vouch for me if I put there names down as reference.
Concerns regarding the verification process and potential consequences
Would Sterling be able to catch that?
Concerns about the background check process
Sterling will verify and my company will now know I lied about the two years on my resume.
So keep hope alive and "edit" a few paystubs if u need to 🤧
I'm off by a few months on a job on my resume, but I'm going to submit the right info to sterling and hopefully I'll be in the same boat as you :)
Most likely a few months is nothing. I wouldn’t sweat it, if they like you, a couple months ain’t gonna change anything.
Discussion about knot strength reduction in Dyneema
So my first question is what what type of anchors are you going to set up? BFK, Sliding X, or even those cool Quads.
The main reason is because knots reduce the strength of high tech ropes EVEN MORE than nylon or polyester.
