What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective protection for belaying
I’ve used BD Crag half finger gloves and they work great for me.
Your hands can get dirty so the gloves are nice when flaking a rope that’s been outside.
Comfortable for long belaying sessions
I can avoid fingers getting dirty with full fingered gloves.
I use the BD halfies when I am belaying a ton of ppl for classes or when belaying heavier partner with an ATC on long alpine stuff that a hand injury would be super, super no bueno.
Durable and high-quality material
The BD gloves are by far the best on the market. The most durable pair as well as from my experience.
+1 for the BD crack gloves. Also look way better than any of the competition.
+1 BD crack gloves. I climb around Tahoe and they make long crack days a delight.
They take 10 seconds to put on, I can throw them in a bag on multiptich and use them for specific pitches.
Affordable price for effective gloves
they're starting to smell like wet dog because I have super sweaty hands, but they're great.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Not ideal for beginners learning jamming technique
It all boils down to comfort, IMO.
Thicker gloves hinder dexterity
Sorry to not answer your question but those thick gloves are not very dexterous.
Preference against gloves for friction reasons
I'm terrified to use them as I'd rather burn my fingers than feel less friction on the rope!

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
User preferences for different climbing gloves
wideboyz are THE crack climbers. they are making their own.
They don’t have any extra padding, but more often than not I’m glad for that.
User preferences for glove thickness and dexterity
I haven't found a better lead glove for cold weather ice climbing.
Discussion on glove types and features
Soft shell climbing gloves I’m looking for a new pair of climbing gloves that are a softy shell and have great grip.
Under cuff or over the cuff?
There’s 2 different types and I’m not sure if they still make the original.
their dexterity is the best feature.
Preference for lighter, more dextrous gloves for activities
I carry two sets of gloves. One lighter dexterous glove: when you’re moving, your blood is pumping, you don’t need oven mitts on your hands.
Discussion on the effectiveness of liners and leathers
Gloves are gloves.
Discussion on glove types for different climbing scenarios
Yeah and if you are out there a set of hand warmers or two for when you feel that you might lose a finger.
Discussion on glove usability for climbing styles
Climbing Gloves Question So I have a slight problem when I go climbing (I just go a couple time a week to a climbing gym).
those gloves arent really for free climbing, more for belaying like it says in the description.
You can't wear gloves when climbing. You just won't get the grip you need, no matter how the gloves are designed.
Hey man, if you want to wear gloves wear gloves. Don't listen to anyone else.
Mention of Black Diamond gloves
Petzl or black diamond
Black diamond Crag
Discussion on proper climbing gear
No damage to my fingers thank you gloves, but the gloves are now done.
I'm guessing you're using something like an 8mm or thinner climbing or static rope?
Definitely get a harness and some ascending/descending devices, for safety and ease of use.
[Metolius](https://www.metoliusclimbing.com/climbing_glove.html) has gloves in full-finger and 3/4-finger versions that have extra leather on the palm for reinforcement.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion of alternatives to gloves like tape
Ignore people talking about tape. Unless you are climbing near your limit gloves are fine and far more convenient.
Tape is best, but a lot of hassle for single pitch.
I have had a better experience with [the G7 ones.](https://g7equipment.com/products/handjam) Half because of the bullet warrenty.
Discussion of alternatives to BD gloves
https://www.go2marine.com/showa-282-temres-gloves
Outdoor research bitter blaze glove? I haven't used them, but just purchased a pair based on reviews specifically mentioning suitability for ice climbing.
Bringing multiple pairs of gloves for varying conditions
I guess as general advice, bring a 2nd pair of gloves.
User anecdotes about extreme cold weather usage
MN girl out here doin it in -6°F and the glove situation is like I’m a glove dealer operating out of my car lol “psst you need some gloves? I got just the one”
User experiences with wool mittens in extreme cold
neither moisture produced within the mitten, nor exterior moisture when worn without shells, seem to compromise their warmth.
Hands for whatever reason produce a lot of sweat even when they aren't overheating.
Creative repurposing of clothing materials
I usually befriend a tailor in town and do weird projects with them...like what you're describing.

Comparisons with other brands
I like my G7 but they're pricey. They are leather and not as thick/padded as the big rubber ones.
I'm a tape guy but before I was - Ocun. The thinner ones with the red finger loops are great.
Discussion about the capacity and usability of the BD Distance packs for climbing
Could I get that lot in the 8 without overloading it and getting stuff prodding in the back?
It's like my Salomon Trail running vest, which is super super light, but very fragile (small plastic clips, very thin cord, very thin material, etc.).
I actually attached axes to it in the store to see how it holds up. So, yes you can for sure use it for the purpose of alpine/ice climbing.
I wouldn't want to run in it - it would bounce along.
Discussion on glove preferences (fingerless vs regular)
the friction of this rope is getting crazy hot
Comparisons to non-climbing gloves
Cheep leather gardening gloves work great, don't waste money on climbing specific gloves.
I use fingerless leather sailing gloves. Works great.
Alternative glove recommendations
Gloves for commercial climbing with calfskin (it's called Kalbsleder, idk the exact translation)
i use gardening gloves
Discussion on gloves for various activities
Lightweight but durable glove? I'm looking for a lightweight (ideally) windproof glove that isn't going to fall apart immediately.
Outdoor Research Gripper. Great work gloves, durable for scrambling.
I wonder if OP needs actual work gloves. I've used work/climbing gloves from OR which worked well: https://www.outdoorresearch.com/us/splitter-work-gloves-264364?cat=15,4,402
I’ve been wondering if work/climbing gloves would make more sense, I’m leery though of non-wind proof...should probably try a few though.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
User preferences for different climbing scenarios
I don’t think my gym climbing will be particularly sharp but the extra comfort is definitely what I am after.
Preference for glove type varies among climbers
But definitely go for fingerless options imo.
User preferences for different types of gloves
I absolutely love my g7 gloves!
The grip wears super fast and they often tear.
User experiences with BD gloves vary
Best BD Punisher alternative (best ice climbing gloves?) I have been using BD Punishers for many years now and I love their warmth/dexterity ratio.
Personally I love most of CAMPs gloves and I would say out of all the gloves I've tried and seen the gecko ice is pretty amazing.
Discussion on various glove brands and their performance
I'm looking for something that wouldn't impede dexterity too much and would be water resistant as much as possible.
Do not waste money on the fanciest gloves. If you climb a lot, go budget.
Never buy high end climbing industry gloves, except your hard trad mixed cold weather gloves.
Belay mitts is where you should put your glove money.
Personal experiences and preferences for climbing with gloves
Maybe you can't play with fingernails, but plenty of really good guitarists play with finger picks.
Preference for no gloves in certain conditions
In general if weather conditions and material are right, i recommend no gloves for climbing
I’ve used biking fingerless gloves the whole time
Historical context of outdoor clothing materials
But felted wool (which is what Dachstein boiled wool is) isn't magic.
