OP, don’t listen to the people saying you have bad technique if you use belay gloves.

Positive Feedback

Thicker gloves make thin hand cracks harder and give you less feel and feedback, which I've heard can slow down learning of good jamming technique.

OP, don’t listen to the people saying you have bad technique if you use belay gloves.
Gloves are useful for more than just protecting against rope burn. Saves skin and keeps your hands from getting dirty.
I can avoid fingers getting dirty with full fingered gloves.
It’s the first time I’ve ever belayed someone with such disparity between my weight and theirs.
Gloves protect hands while detangling hair
I’m so glad I saw this comment. Detangling always fucks up my acrylics and this is such an easy fix.
Gloves provide good protection for hands
I have gone through a pair of Black Diamonds and the newer Metolius gloves.
Climber and Urbexer here, yes, gloves are a must have if you're getting into the gritty and often sharp filled environment of urban exploration.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the suitability of Metolius tape for climbing
Leukotape is my go-to for fingers, I use the Metolius tape for crack climbing.
Metolius or Kramer tape on dry, non-chalky skin does the trick.
Not the new metolius stuff.
Discussion on the suitability of gloves for climbing with skin conditions
I always balked at the idea of using gloves, but at this point, I'm willing to give it a go.
Personally I feel like tape would be better than gloves, not sure how that would interact with your skin condition though
Route setters use gloves to protect their hands
Surprisingly they can often use crimps, though they are much stronger than us regular punters.
Discussion about glove thickness affecting climbing technique
I love my Wide Boyz gloves. They are on the thicker side, which I like for the extra padding, but it can cause problems in thin cracks.
General conversation about climbing practices and gear
Anyone know about durability? I don’t mind if one is a little more bulky as I guess a tape glove can work when it’s thin.
Love my bd gloves
Discussion on using gloves in climbing
I'm looking for some climbing gloves. My fingers get ripped to shreads (all over, some chunks down two layers) and while I wait for them to heal I can't climb.
Assuming this isn't a troll question... People generally don't wear gloves when climbing.
I really don't know why everyone is shitting all over OP. It's a perfectly reasonable question.
Take a rest day and use tape... wearing climbing gloves is a terrible idea.
Personal preferences for different types of gloves
I use either mechanixwear gloves that are rated for oil or the home depot rubberized gardening gloves.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on using gloves for hair care
using gloves adds a lot of slip. I am able to glide through my hair so nicely.
Now I’m lowkey about to make sure it’s healthy to use the type of gloves I’ve been using 😭🫣 hope it’s okay.
I use it to apply my deep conditioners and styling products when I’m out the shower tho
Discussion on alternative climbing tape options
PSA: New metolius climbing tape is made in China and it sucks
I bought a box of euro tape straight from Mueller. Works out to 2.50ish a roll and now I have a lifetime supply
I always just use hockey tape or boxing/mma glove tape it’s cheaper and at every sports store
Experience with gloves in VR demo
They're pretty incredible. One of the demos was picking up a spider and having it walk across your palm and it was too real.
Discussion on using gloves for urban exploration
Do any of you use gloves? New to this sub-reddit, I can't believe I didn't know about this.
Be careful when wearing gloves, if the police happen to find you exploring, the gloves could arouse suspicion, and they may be less likely to view you as harmless explorers, and more likely to view you as potential thieves attempting to mask your finger prints.
You're looking for climbing gloves. I use gloves to protect my hands from broken glass, metal, and just generally icky stuff.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Preference for different brands based on hand size and types of climbs
I like my G7 but they're pricey. They are leather and not as thick/padded as the big rubber ones
I don’t think my gym climbing will be particularly sharp but the extra comfort is definitely what I am after.
The ocuns are beefier, a bit more durable, and sticky.
I'm a tape guy but before I was - Ocun. The thinner ones with the red finger loops are great
Personal preference varies among climbers for glove types
Here's a breakdown of options
My belay partner has been using a pair of CAMP fingerless gloves for a good few years now, and he quite likes them.
Tommy Caldwell recommends the fingerless ones.
I use fingerless leather sailing gloves. Works great.
Recommendations for climbing tape alternatives
The black Tension tape is pricey but very good.
Some smaller retailers might still have a bit in stock, even if the Tension mothership is out of stock.
Discussion on climbing levels achievable with gloves
You shouldn't be relegated to v4 even with gloves.
V4 is more than most ppl climb.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on glove thickness affecting feel and technique
Thicker gloves make thin hand cracks harder and give you less feel and feedback, which I've heard can slow down learning of good jamming technique.
These are great, only exception is for us fat handed folks they make thin cracks even harder.
I want to get better ones with good protection - no rope burn, especially for outdoor climbing.
my cat climbed in and created this masterpiece of a photo
Discussion about the necessity of proper climbing gear for safety
Tore my gloves- new glove recommendation for thin rope climb? No descender, just hands gloves rope and feet.
glove recommendation: durable, super sticky for thin rope
Definitely get a harness and some ascending/descending devices, for safety and ease of use.
Rock climbing ropes are not recommended for tree climbing. Look at www.sheltertree.com and get a proper rope.
Concerns about grip between gloves and climbing holds
The grip between the glove and the hold is usually pretty good, but the grip between your hand and the glove is usually not so good
General conversation about climbing practices and glove usage
I highly doubt it. You can only decide for yourself if that's what you expect from yourself.
you need to feel the hold
Check out route setting gloves. They’re used so route setters don’t destroy their skin trying 10s of climbs every day repeatedly
Preference for different brands based on individual needs
I love my OR gloves. Super thin so form fitting.
Discussion on glove usage affecting grip
I don't know what to do about it.
Yeah, avoid gloves.
I started to avoid jugs, just like the TudraWolf said and hold on to the handholds with the least amount of strength possible and it worked.
If you're tearing up your hands, try working on technique.
