What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Reliable performance
Insinkerator is also good.
Functionality > Longevity > Sound
Quiet operation
This thing is quiet, but be aware that the new baffle design will mean that more water will pool before draining.
We love it and it is so so so quiet. Badgers are much louder compared to this.
Even the basic 5/8 HP is quieter than your B5 for sure.
I like my insinkerator evolution..stainless internals 3/4hp. Quiet and strong.
Easy installation
Installation was a breeze and it runs flawlessly.
works great and is quieter with less vibration than my old 1/2 horsepower unit
It has demolished everything I’ve thrown at it like it was nothing.
It’s super easy.
Reliable performance over time
Their warrantee for their Evolution 3/4hp is longer than the last 3 garbage disposals.
Easy installation with plug option
If you’ve got a plug get it with the cord. Otherwise you’ll need to wire it yourself.
Easy to replace bracket during installation
It's real easy to replace the bracket though, I'd take the extra 10 minutes and do it.
Badger and Insinkerator use a common bracket (they're the same company), the one that most KitchenAi
The bracket is part of the piece that gets inserted from above and that gets replaced real easily.
Strong performance
Strong and quiet.
Preference for InSinkErator over competitors
Stick with an insinkerator
I never get recalls with Badgers.. I like to be a loyal customer so if the product works and I'm making money, why change?

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Units can corrode and fail over time
Our Insinkerator died this weekend, it was all corroded out and let un-chopped food through into plumbing.
Two plumbers have told me basically you should not use this for food scraps AT ALL.
Not suitable for large food scraps
Yep, you cannot put 5lbs of potato peels down the disposal, it just does not work.
Plumbing systems can be damaged by disposals
the more crap you put in there, the better chance of a clog.
Septics should NEVER have one added. Just scrape the plates into the trash and wipe off as much grease / oil as possible all the time.
InSinkErator disposals can fail prematurely
So... having been without a disposal for six weeks I’ve had enough and I’m just going to buy a new unit.
They are easy to swap and not that expensive, I would just assume you’ll need a new one every 5-10 years.
Garbage disposals are not repairable if leaking
They're not repairable. Get a new one and replace it.
plumber replaced as it was unrepairable
Mounting brackets are not universal
the brackets take less than 5 minutes to swap, and the new disposal comes with a new (shiny!) bracket.
Difficulty with installation due to snap spring
The hardest part of the whole job is that fucking snap spring thing that goes on the mount!
Moen disposals lack breaker wrench feature
We use them a good bit only thing I don’t like is they don’t have the breaker wrench or spot for it but other then that I think the 1/3hp also have a higher RPMs then badgers

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Variability in disposal power and user needs
There’s different levels of disposal from like 0.25 hp up to maybe 5 hp.
The garbage disposal looks pretty rusty and is incredibly loud. I'm looking for something that'll last.
Costco has exclusive models
I think it’s the same 80022-ISE as seen on the insinkerator website with the only difference is the bottom isn’t stainless steel.
Yes. Same thing happens with TVs.
Insinkerator is the gold standard.
Discussion on power differences between models
More power, still quiet as the 500 but the inside is ALL stainless steel where the 500 is only galvanized (good stuff until the zinc coating wears off and then you’re screwed.)
Common use of garbage disposals in US kitchens
Many (maybe most) kitchens in the US have these built into the sink.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Use of citrus peels for odor removal
Just chucking a squeezed lemon / lime half in every once in a while after cocktail hour works for me.
Yes, I typically just do the ice cubes and really small lemon slices. It helps with any odors as well

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Concerns about plumbing compatibility with disposals
This will be my first time changing out a disposal. I’m checking out options at Menards but curious which one is most recommended & what Horsepower is best.
Concerns about garbage disposal pricing
the prices are much more all over the place
Compatibility concerns with existing plumbing
Need a replacement for it and I am trying to figure out if it can be easily replaced by InSinkErator Power 900.
you just remove the old garbage disposal, you undo the screw and then give it a couple love taps from underneath and it pops out.
Mix of cleaning methods for garbage disposals
My sister dated a plumber, and his recommendation was similar, minus the bleach and baking soda.
Exploring recommendations for garbage disposals
Mine just exploded and poured about 10 gallons of water under my cabinets.
Comparison of exclusive models and pricing
these are the ones I am looking at
Discussion on alternatives to InSinkErator
We have a Moen that hasn't given us any issues. It's surprisingly quiet as well.
I bought a Waste King and have had zero issues — and I don’t go easy on it!!
Also have a Moen that we've had since October-ish of 2019 (right after we moved into our new place) and it's been great so far.
Mention of Costco sales for disposals
They frequently have disposals on sale. That's where I got my Moen.
Discussion on compatibility of different InSinkErator models
Mine is 14 years old at this point and I don't think I can get like for like.
Clarification on hardwired vs. plug-in garbage disposals
While replacing disposal you may want to have electrical wiring corrected.
There's two kinds of garbage disposals. Ones that plug into an outlet under the sink, and ones that are hard-wired.
Concerns about DIY installation
Trying to see if we can DIY.
Ooh, I like the size of that one.
Consideration of alternative brands like Waste King
Love it and comes with all the parts. Way cheaper and excellent quality compared to the badger/ insinkerator
General advice on cleaning disposals
All cheaper disposals will rust out. It really depends on how they're used.
Discussions about disposal recommendations
Suggestions for a good garbage disposal Any recommendations? The one we have currently isn't working too well.
Insinkerator it is! Appreciate all the responses!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Childhood misconceptions about garbage disposals
It wasn't until later I learned the food is more "whacked" into the side walls, until it explodes, and is washed away.
I thought that they were called "in sink erators" for the longest time until I said it once and nobody knew what I was talking about lol
Commentary on the Moen product being relatively new with limited reviews
Seems quieter? than the 1/2 insinkerator.
