Snoop's Take

The Whirlpool GC1000XE 1/3 hp in Sink Disposer is designed to efficiently dispose of food scraps, keeping your kitchen clean and odor-free. With its continuous feed design and powerful motor, it can handle everyday waste with ease, making it a convenient addition to your kitchen setup. Consumer feedback highlights that many users find the installation process straightforward, with one stating, "Probably the easiest thing I've ever replaced." However, some users express concerns about its effectiveness for larger quantities of food waste, noting that "disposals aren’t meant for large amounts of anything." Additionally, there are mixed experiences regarding functionality, with a few users mentioning instances where the disposal buzzed but did not activate. Overall, while the Whirlpool GC1000XE offers ease of installation and satisfactory performance for small amounts of waste, potential buyers should consider its limitations for larger food scraps. It may be a suitable choice for those with modest disposal needs, but those frequently dealing with larger waste volumes might want to explore more robust options.

General discussion about garbage disposals
Hey guys, my garbage disposal is leaking. How can I fix this?
WHAT THE HELL IS A GARBAGE DISPOSAL IN THE SINK?!? What on earth I am so confused I saw someone just throw their food into the sink and it just disappears and doesn't clog!?!?
Some places do. I pay extra for organic waste disposal in Denver. But my parents house in a different city in the same state doesn't even have recycling.
Ok. This is a perfect example of you can but you still fucking shouldnt. Like what are you trying to get at? Yea I guess technically I can stick my hand in a moving garbage disposal safely. But thats still an incredibly dumb fucking thing to do. This is one of those things that frankly is better for the average person to not know about. Just stick with, "Dont stick you hand in the garbage disposal, ever for any reason. Why? Because dont.".

Discussion about exclusive models and pricing
these are the ones I am looking at
there's a pretty good list covered here in a bit detail which might help make the decision
if you’ve got a plug get it with the cord
cheap is cheap, insinkerator's cheap stuff won't last for a super long time
Discussion about brands and installation experiences
Functionality > Longevity > Sound
works great and is quieter with less vibration than my old 1/2 horsepower unit
What's a good HP for a garbage disposal? Any recommended brands or ones I should stay away from?
InSinkErator .5 HP and above will give you the best bang for your buck.
Discussion about brand preferences and experiences with other models
Garbage disposal recommendations? Our disposal died tonight and have never bought one before.
We love it and it is so so so quiet.
It has demolished everything I’ve thrown at it like it was nothing.
Moen 3/4 HP. Perfect! And you don't have to deal with rewiring!
Installation experiences shared by users
Trying to see if we can DIY.
Follow the directions and it will be fine.
Disposal is the main large sink as it’s easier to wash off dishes there, but to each their own.
Discussion on the compatibility of disposal brackets
Different brand garbage disposal compatiblity? I'm trying to replace my broken Kitchen Aid garbage disposal with a Badger insinkerator.
They're all different brackets, but Waste King sells a adapter for a InSinkErator bracket.
Once I put the new bracket on it slid in easily. Thanks.
Badger and Insinkerator use a common bracket (they're the same company), the one that most KitchenAid disposals use doesn't fit.
Recommendation for alternative disposal brands
Love it and comes with all the parts.
General preference for Badgers over other brands
I never get recalls with Badgers.. I like to be a loyal customer so if the product works and I'm making money, why change?
Badgers are the way to go.
Discussion about maintenance tips for garbage disposals
This. It also scrapes everything inside the chamber clean
They can get pumped out if it fills, though bacteria do eat everything down, so it shouldn't happen very often.
Discussion about finding comparable replacements
Are most disposals standardized? I'd like to drop something in that's form/fit/function equivalent.
Use INSINKERATOR disposals.
Any tips for picking out something comparable not just in performance, but also in terms of fit?
Mine goes out to my sceptic system and gets decomposed and drains back into the earth.
Advice on installation tips
There is a red reset button on the bottom, make sure it is pushed in before you go buy a new one
All the disposals I have ever installed had a plastic knockout in the connection area for the dishwasher.
There is a small plug in the side of the disposal. Be sure to take that out before hooking up the dishwasher drain hose.
Advice on troubleshooting disposal issues
Flush hot water through the disposal, turn on the power and try it again.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about rebranding and ownership changes
Only issue I've encountered is trying to find rubbed bronze trim rings for the 191 and 291.
Discussion on drain issues related to disposal units
garbage disposal shoots water back but there is no clog
There IS a clog
The sheer number of posts I see that are "water is backing up and doesn't drain, it's not a clog" never ceases to blow my mind.
Yes the dishwasher leg goes into the extension drain out of the sink right before the pee or s trap so if the drain trap is clogged then water can't leave as fast as it needs to so it returns up so the best idea is to unscrew your trap and pipe and see what's in there clean it out good and flush it and then see what you've got
Advice on troubleshooting electrical issues
Check the wiring to the disposal - ensure that it's actually getting supply voltage.
Sometimes the reset button will not push in far enough with a finger.
Put anything n one that is not turned on, watch what happens.
Discussion on troubleshooting common issues
It was a bad time.
Discussion on types of jams in disposals
The disposal blade is disc-shaped and the fibrous stuff tends to get stuck between the edge of the blade and the surrounding housing.
