What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to achieve great taste
Thanks!! Sooo good. Toasted with some butter is heavenly.
Audible alarm for adding ingredients
There is an audible alarm near the end of the last kneading cycle, that's when you add fruits and nuts.
Stylish and space-efficient design
I really like the style but I don’t want to get something just because it’s pretty.
it doesn’t vibrate/make any crazy noises.
Homemade bread quality surpasses store-bought
How much do you think it costs to make a basic 2 lb. basic loaf of bread??? Nothing can beat a fresh loaf of homemade bread from the bread machine!
The quality of the cheapest loaf on the store shelf is not the same as what I get from my bread machine.
Easy to use with minimal prep
It makes the bread. You just add ingredients, no prep, no extra work.
Produces tasty homemade bread
I love my bread maker. My favorite is potato-oatmeal bread. If I were to buy it at the store it would easily cost $5 a loaf and wouldn’t taste as good.
Great for making simple bread and other features like jams
Don't expect to make anything fancy with it, but it is nice for making simple bread for slicing and toasting with butter in a pinch or making your own sandwich bread.
Stylish and appealing design
This is the first time in my life that I have seen a breadmaker that wasn't the bottom of the shelf white Oster.
Produces fresh bread with a pleasant aroma
there's nothing wrong with them. When I was growing up my folks got one and I remember how awesome it was to wake up to the smell of fresh bread in the morning and it was dead simple to make.
Easy to use for beginners
Don't most bread makers come with a recipe book? I would recommend starting there, since theoretically the manufacturer has tested those recipes specifically for their machine.
Produces great results with various recipes
Anyone have the large Saki Bread maker? Found one at a thrift store. Curious if it’s worth the buy?
I bought one new about a month ago and have been very happy with it so far. I’ve made bread, pizza dough and pretzels with zero issues and great results.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Produces dense bread despite following recipes
I just want light fluffy bread.
Every loaf I've made has fallen like this.
Included recipes are not satisfactory
I wouldn't let the included recipe pamphlet determine a purchase.
The book that comes with it is essentially useless.
Homemade bread can be more expensive than expected
the quality of the homemade bread and lack of fillers makes up for it.
Loaf size is inconsistent and can overflow
every time I’ve cooked with the 900 g setting (2 lbs), the loaf is WAYY too big and I’m left with an inflated undercooked part leaking out of the top.
you will need to scale down the recipes to prevent overflowing the machine.
I had a neretva before I upgraded to my zo but never had any issue with following 2 lb recipes.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Bread machines share similar features.
Virtually all bread machines are fundamentally the same.
If you care about loaf shape you pull the dough after rising, shape/rest/bake in a bread pan or Dutch oven.
I don’t want something too complicated. Just simple to use.
Discussion on the necessity of oil in bread making.
Olive oil turns unhealthy if it burns. So don't burn it.
You don't need oil to make bread. You need: 1. flour and water, to make flatbread/tortillas 2. a rising agent, like instant yeast or sourdough starter, to make bread 3. salt to make it taste good and make the yeast behave.
I’m definitely wanting to learn more about oil now lol
I use Olive oil in my sandwich bread.
Debate on the value of homemade bread vs store-bought
Solid purchase, would recommend a bread maker if you and your family eat bread.

Ummmmmm, excuse me? Bread machine seitan? What wizardry is this?
Is a great recipe 🤗
Users experimenting with innovative recipes
My bread machine is really just a kneading and bulk proofing machine.
Curiosity about adding spices and fruits to bread
I'm new to bread making, and for Christmas, I got a Neretva bread maker and I love it
Check the manual for your machine. It probably has a cycle that has a spot for adding in extra ingredients like fruit or nuts.
Thank you I will have to keep an eye on my machine to see if there is a pause time I can't wait to make a garlic French bread!
Users are open to using recipes from various sources
I saw some reviews that they didn’t like the included recipes and I think that’s what made me hesitant.
No need to worry about the recipes as a decision maker for a machine purchase. You can use other recipes from books, websites, and even other machine’s manuals.
Transferring dough from machine to oven is possible
Has anyone ever transferred the dough from the machine to the oven in a regular bread pan after it ferments?
Just use the appropriate setting and let it rise in its own pan when the cycle ends.
I do it all the time, I have a zojirushi and use the dough setting.
Users sharing personal recipes and tips
Here’s the recipe. I only use 2 tbsp of sugar.
Thanks so much!!! Don't know if you are interested, but this is my favorite white bread recipe in exchange :)

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Users have strong brand loyalty to certain models.
It's still going strong. I just used it today to make cinnamon rolls and raisin bread.
I think I've decided against the smaller Cuisinart since it doesn't seem to perform any better than the others and the cost is significantly higher.
I have made jam, pizza dough and bread. I had a lot of loaves not turn out right, so here are my tips.
It’s been flawless so far. Have had it since Christmas and make about two loaves a week.
Bread machines are considered worthwhile investments
making bread is the best option both in terms of nutrition and cost.
Users often prefer larger models for versatility
My husband loves it for making pizza dough and calzones. It's such a versatile machine!
Discussion on measuring ingredients accurately
It could be that your flour measurement is a bit heavy.
Users experience losing the recipe book
I searched the depths of the internet and couldn’t find it for the life of me- anyway I found the book and so now I’m posting it here… for you all… and also because I will most likely lose the book again 😅
I lost my recipe book for this machine so THANK YOU!!
Thank you I lost mine after 3 days, lol. I do have a bread book but have to tweek the recipes as they sometimes call for too much yeast or water.
Discussion on the cost-effectiveness of homemade bread versus store-bought
It costs me about $1.25 to make a 1.5 lb loaf of milk bread.
My bread costs way less than the store (artisan, organic sourdough loaves are $8 at my grocery store) and it’s cheaper than the crap they call bread at the commercial superstores too.
And I haven’t calculated the cost of gas to run the oven because I have no clue at what rate my oven burns gas to maintain 350F.
Users share experiences on flour sourcing for baking
It really depends on what you pay for the ingredients.
Curiosity about recipe discrepancies
Neretva Cookbook/Recipes I saw a lot peeps out there looking for this here you go 🥰 enjoy!
Thank you for sharing! However I'm curious, why does your booklet have different measurements?
Curiosity about recipes and settings
WOW that’s a wild setting for a bread maker.
What recipe did you use?
Curiosity about adjusting recipes for bread machines
I always see bread recipes that are labeled as for bread machines. Is there a difference?

Bread machines use a special kind of yeast that's ground very finely so it mixes in more easily.
Advice on buying bread makers from thrift stores
buy breadmaker from thrift stores. There are plenty of them and they go for $3-20 compared to $50 and above new ones
Users discuss tips for using various bread makers
I too have the SAKI bread machine and I've found that if I put a little olive oil on the shafts before installing the paddles they come out much easier.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Personal anecdotes about bread machines
it makes for cheaper and tastier fresh bread. bread machines rule
Even if you can't afford a bread machine, you can still do it.
Users are excited to transition from store-bought to homemade bread.
I just got a Neretva bread machine for my birthday and I’m super excited to start making non processed bread for my family.
Users are struggling with achieving desired bread texture.
my loaves always turn out small and condensed instead of soft and fluffy.
Doublecheck the freshness of your ingredients as well. Yeast is best stored in the freezer or refrigerator, but if you need to keep it in a cabinet, plan to use it quicker and keep in in a cool place away from cooking and baking steam and heat.
Baking is science.
Make sure your yeast is the proper type and new.
Concerns about brand reputation and comparison with other brands
My only suggestion is to get a machine that does not vibrate off your counter.
Based on reading this sub, I was considering recommending the Neretva and/or the Saki.
Discussion about the reliability of older bread machines
It's always worked flawlessly.
most of their products were sub-generic garbage.
the UI was a hot mess.
User nostalgia for older brands and their performance
Nice! Came here to say this lol
Discussion about the effectiveness of manufacturer recipes
This. I have a machine and I swear that only the manufacturer’s recipes are the only ones that work.
That said, there’s a series called ‘The Bread Machine Cookbook’ from Nitty Gritty cookbooks that is pretty good.
Discussion on bread machine failures
My bread maker of 10 years tried to off itself today while I was away
There seriously needs to be a sub just for bread machines that kill themselves
I think bread machine makers misunderstood what designed obsolescence normally requires. I think you're just supposed to use cheap parts, rather than a robot for hurling the unit off high surfaces.
Or it's being framed -- the dough is trying to make an escape and was willing to off the machine as part of the getaway!
