Snoop's Take

The COLETTI Black Bozeman Percolator Coffee Pot is a sleek, stainless steel camping coffee maker designed for coffee enthusiasts who appreciate a classic brewing method. This percolator is free from aluminum and plastic, ensuring that your coffee is brewed in a toxin-free environment, making it an excellent choice for outdoor adventures. Many users have expressed their satisfaction, stating, "Once we started using a percolator for coffee while we were camping we never went back," while others appreciate its ease of cleaning and durable build that makes it ideal for outdoor use. However, the sentiment is mixed, with some users arguing against the percolator's brewing quality, asserting that it can lead to burnt coffee flavor due to its recycling method. "Percolators are one of the worst methods of making coffee for a variety of reasons," noted a user who prefers other brewing techniques. Overall, despite the criticisms regarding flavor, the COLETTI Black Bozeman Percolator Coffee Pot is recommended for those who value nostalgia and durability in their camping coffee gear, as long as they are aware of its limitations.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable and toxin-free materials
Who still percolates their coffee?
Immersion Coffee Brewing Is Better Than Percolation (James Hoffman)
This is why things like aeropress and clever are so consistent and hard to fuck up, though I still always fall back to pour over because I love the ritual and when you get a good cup it just hits different
Overall it's not that bad.
Easy to clean after use
Yeah, I like Aeropress for a single cup, Clever is great for 2 cups, and quicker and more forgiving for making back to back brews for several people.
I've been using a version of this for camp coffee for years, it's best if you brew the coffee directly over the campfire coals.
Classic and efficient brew method
Clever for the win!
Percolator coffee is preferred over other methods
My first time using a percolator to make coffee
Once we started using a perculator for coffee while we were camping we never went back.
I havr a faberware and its amazing. Will probably last 2 life times...I havr perfected my process and the results are amazing.
I’m all about breakfast 🍳. Two things bus life has taught me; percolated coffee is the best and cast iron is the only cookware that should be used in a kitchen.
Using a thermos mug retains coffee heat
Use a thermos mug instead of those aluminum camp cups. Thermos keeps it hot for hours.
There's just a different level of satisfaction.
Percolators are easy to use.
Percolators work by boiling the liquid in the very bottom of the vessel, forcing water up the tube into the bulb and over the grounds.
I bring the water to a boil and then put the guts in and turn the heat down low.
Just keep it on the heat until it starts to percolate. There will be plenty of noise once the water is boiling and coffee being made.
Let the water boil, then add the ground basket, lower the burner a bit.
Percolator coffee is favored by some users for outdoor brewing
I made some for my sister, a coffee connoisseur and she said it's the best she's had.
Users appreciate the ability to make coffee without burning it
Only keep the heat just hot enough to barely boil.
Coarse grinding improves percolator coffee flavor
Percolator coffee should be ground much more coarsely than drip coffee.
Percolators are easy to use
it's easy to make enough coffee for multiple people and it tastes way better than a drip machine.
Percolators really are great, I think I am going to start using it more than my drip machine!
My problem comes with the warming up and brewing time. The instructions say to bring the water to a boil and then turn the heat down to low/medium low and brew for 7 minutes.
A percolator recirculates brew through your grounds several times, and at a comparatively high (and rising) temperature, so over extraction is always going to be a major risk.
Percolators make great coffee
Perco is definitely underrated. I could've packed my v60 for early mornings but percolator dark roast with sweetened condensed milk is just fine.
It's like a better french press imo.
Nostalgic taste of perked coffee
I still enjoy the "nostalgia" taste you are talking about.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Percolators brew coffee poorly.
Thinking about it, it seems like it gives you the most control over a relatively simple method of brewing.
To put it bluntly, I cannot think of a worse way to brew coffee than a percolator.
A great pourover beats a great immersion brew in my opinion.
Does anybody have a percolator that they are absolutely in love with?
Percolators brew coffee poorly
Agreed.. i think it should be finer.
Percolators are one of the worst methods of making coffee for a variety of reasons but notably the overheat and over extract things.
In my experience, percolators over extract and overheat coffee producing some of the worst coffee I've ever tried.
Percolators brew coffee poorly compared to other methods.
Yeah percolators went out of style for a reason, the cheapest Mr coffee drip machine will make much better coffee, but they do work.
Some users believe percolators can burn coffee due to recirculation
I can highly recommend this YouTube video if you want to know more.
I think its a cool way to make coffee - but the problem, as I see it, is that you recirculate the coffee already brewed under a consistent boiling temperature, causing it to get burnt.
My Dad still uses these to make coffee. I’m convinced he has burnt off all his taste buds.
I noticed what you mention about the brewed coffee passing through the grounds repeatedly. I am not impressed.
Negative experiences with percolated coffee flavor
Its a bad way to make coffee
Many mornings ruined by that experience.
Percolators can overheat water and run it through grounds multiple times
they do violate some of the basic tenants of coffee making by overheating the water and running it through the grounds multiple times.

The flavor is full bodied (although not as much as moka pot, but far superior to drip and pour over) , slightly smokey, and the brew is highly caffeinated.
