Snoop's Take

The Stanley Hold Tight Percolator Coffee Pot is a 1.1 qt stainless steel coffee maker designed for outdoor enthusiasts and home brewers alike. This durable percolator brews six cups of rich, flavorful coffee, making it an ideal choice for camping, hiking, or cozy mornings at home. Customer feedback highlights the percolator's ease of cleaning, portability, and capacity to produce great coffee, with users stating, "Once we started using a percolator for coffee while we were camping we never went back." Many appreciate the nostalgic experience it provides, with comments like, "Before drip coffee makers and Keurigs there was… the percolator." However, some users have noted issues with burnt coffee due to recirculation and the inconsistency in brewing, indicating it's not without its flaws. Overall, the Stanley Hold Tight Percolator Coffee Pot is highly recommended for those seeking a traditional brewing method that delivers robust coffee flavors, especially for outdoor adventures, despite some concerns regarding its brewing efficiency.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to clean
It’s very easy to clean, and you just need a way to boil water to get coffee.
My first time using a percolator to make coffee
Immersion Coffee Brewing Is Better Than Percolation (James Hoffman)
1940's Percolator Coffee Pot still used for camping & home
Compact and portable for camping
I find the pour over (or Percolater if we’re car camping) method slow and messy, so here’s hoping for better and easier coffee.
The only downside was the size. I looked everywhere for something just like it except bigger.
Makes great coffee
Once we started using a perculator for coffee while we were camping we never went back.
Great for nostalgic coffee making
My great grandmother's percolator still making coffee nearly 100 years later.
She used it damn near everyday until my grandpa died in 2008 and still breaks it out when someone who drinks coffee visits.
I do use it when I do
This is, excuse me, this is a damn fine reference.
Produces great coffee outdoors
I made some for my sister, a coffee connoisseur and she said it's the best she's had.
It's the best way to make coffee, especially in the outdoors.
Easy to use with minimal hassle
This right here. I have two because I was camping with a group. Book the water, throw in the grinds, wait, press. A+ coffee every time.
One that I find particularly interesting. Good coffee actually encourages a slow launch 🚀 —maybe a morning campfire, a “few minutes” with a good book, thoughtful conversations, nice breakfast, etc. 🏕️
Nostalgic experience of coffee making
Before drip coffee makers and Keurigs there was… the percolator.
Can still smell the Folger’s and Camels like yesterday…..thx dad 🫤
We always come back to the jet fuel percolator-using the HEB brand coffee! That thing will put hair on yer chest!
Makes fine coffee on the camp stove.
Produces strong flavored coffee
It's super strong flavored coffee man
Easy to use with modern adaptations
Same. I get mine ready at night and plug into a smart plug. Then turn the plug on from bed with my phone in the morning.
Or just plug it into a timer.
Satisfying percolation sound
They did make a very satisfying sound…
I bought one a couple of years ago and still use it. Sometimes it’s nice to hear something else complaining about the morning besides me.
Durable and versatile for various cooking methods
I love that this little guy can be used on a rocket stove or just shoved into some coals and be no worse for wear.
Stanley just makes good, inexpensive products
Long-lasting quality
Their shit lasts forever.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Can burn coffee due to recirculation
because the brewed coffee is being recirculated through the beans again under constant boiling temperature causing it to get burnt
the problem, as I see it, is that you recirculate the coffee already brewed under a consistent boiling temperature, causing it to get burnt
Inconsistent brewing experience
Many mornings ruined by that experience.
I am not impressed.
Percolators are considered outdated
Tips? Percolating Coffee on a Pocket Rocket I bought a GSI 6 cup stainless steel percolator, intending to use it on MSR Pocket Rocket because I wanted to be able to brew more than just 1 cup of coffee in one go.
Glad I'm not the only one who's here to trash on percolators.
Requires a lot of energy to operate
They take the most energy of any coffee maker.
Can result in bitter coffee if boiled
Just under a boil is the best, you want the liquid to hit the top of the percolator every second or two.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about coffee temperature retention
use a thermos mug instead of those aluminum camp cups. Anytime I’ve use the aluminum cups, the coffee loses its heat and gets cold quickly.
Yeah it does lose heat pretty fast. Thanks for the tip

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Experiences with different coffee-making methods
It also makes great cold brew - just use a coarse grind and stir a bit longer
Just play around with it until you get your best cup. I use way more water and stirring than the directions say
I'm generally making coffee for 5-12 people and the percolator seems to be the least amount of fuss.
I use a French press too. Usually its just me and my wife. Boil some water, add some grounds, boom, done.
Discussion about modern uses and adaptations of percolators
It's the same thing basically, puts the kettle and strainer together.
Discussion about coffee brewing techniques using hacks
Stanley Pour Over hack Just picked this up at Cabela's. I drink paper filtered coffee so I hacked it.

Discussion about alternatives and comparisons
Larger groups we get instant espresso powder or use a percolator
Discussion about alternatives to percolators
Does anybody have a percolator that they are absolutely in love with?
Does it have to be a percolator? For single coffees I use an aeropress and for a larger group, a French press
IMHO much better than perk (or even French press).
General discussion about coffee brewing techniques
It makes coffee over a fire or on a camp stove if you've got a bit more time.
That might work for you
Discussion about grinding techniques for percolators
Percolator coffee should be ground much more coarsely than drip coffee.
Slightly more coarse than for French press
Discussion about finding a suitable camping coffee pot.
No ceramic please
My only gripe is that the plastic piece on top wouldn't tighten that well after only a few uses.
I use a GSI french press. I really like it.
It has no brand marking on it but she works great.
Comparison of percolators to other coffee makers
Still perked every morning.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
General nostalgia for percolators
It’s time for the percolator
Nostalgia associated with percolators
My parents used to have one; I was fascinated as a kid watching this.
Same here. Parents used it for decades
Discussion about alternative coffee makers
My advice is to get a metal French press.
Discussions about alternative coffee-making methods
French press! I use the Stanley boil + brew. It's pretty easy to find online.
I prefer this because I can just toss the paper cone and ground in my trash and I don’t really need to use a lot of water to wash out coffee grinds.
General nostalgia for coffee-making experiences
Ditto! They still sell them, but they're aluminum and it doesn't taste the same.
Amazing modern twist to a classic way to make coffee - quite excellent!!!
Discussion about Stanley's product reliability
I use their camping coffee press and I agree, it just works. And, I use the stainless steel pot/container for simple boiling water
