Snoop's Take

The Kitchen in the box Stand Mixer is a compact and lightweight electric food mixer designed for everyday baking tasks. With a 3.2Qt capacity, 6 speed settings, and multiple attachments, it’s perfect for small kitchens, making it easy to whip up dough, batter, and more. Consumer sentiment highlights the mixer's compact design as a definite plus, with one user stating, "It was that size or nothing for my small kitchen, so it was a good trade off for me." Additionally, many users appreciate the mixer's durable attachments and its effectiveness for shredding meat, with one saying, "But I really love it for shredding meat!" However, some concerns arise regarding overheating issues during heavy tasks, with a user noting, "It overheats easily and really jiggles around whenever it's running." Overall, the Kitchen in the box Stand Mixer is recommended for those seeking a budget-friendly and compact mixer suitable for light to moderate baking tasks. While it may not handle heavy dough kneading as effectively as higher-end competitors, its versatility and ease of use make it a solid choice for small households.

My only question is, is the KitchenAid worth it for its price, or would I just be better off making dough by hand?

Positive Feedback

It overheats easily and really jiggles around whenever it's running and recently I was kneading some dough and speed 4 and the motor completely burnt out.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Compact and lightweight design
My only question is, is the KitchenAid worth it for its price, or would I just be better off making dough by hand?
I think the 5 quart will be too much to use with 1 or 2 cups of flour and I am worried it wont knead it very well.
It was that size or nothing for my small kitchen, so it was a good trade off for me.
I couldn’t help but think the whole time about how much easier it would have been with my hand mixer.
Durable attachments
Turns out, it was the only one that was *NOT* dishwasher safe! The whisk part looks fine but the top nut that attaches to the mixer appears to have corroded and is now covered in a silver powdery layer.
Good manufacturer reputation
Kitchen in the box is a good manufacturer. I’ve tried their products through vine and I love them.
Solid alternative to KitchenAid
that looks like a solid alternative!
Good sturdy product
It's more of a gamble than buying new, make sure you get some kind of guarantee so you can fix any major issues you might have right away.
Good for shredding meat
I use it to shred meat and that alone is worth the price.
But I really love it for shredding meat! Pop in some warm cooked chicken, roast, pork, whatever, with the paddle attachment, and boom you've got perfectly shredded meat.
Multiple attachments increase value
the attachments added a lot of value.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Overheating issues when kneading dough
It overheats easily and really jiggles around whenever it's running and recently I was kneading some dough and speed 4 and the motor completely burnt out.
Sometimes when my mixer get overly hot I will put a package of frozen peas on her.
I have the least expensive head-tilt model and I absolutely fried the gears trying to save myself time.
My recipe said 10 minutes kneading in the stand mixer and it totally died on me.
Flimsiness in newer models
It shakes with a moderately stiff dough (I was making a spice cookie, similar in texture to gingerbread). The motor sounds like it is struggling.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about stainless steel replacements
I got rid of mine and replaced it with a stainless steel version. It’s great.
You can get them with either aluminum or stainless top pieces. I have a stainless one and it goes th
The stainless whisk is only 10 more than the aluminum one. Altogether they are pricy but not having
Discussion about alternatives to larger mixers
If that's the ONLY thing that you'll use it for, the mini would work.
I think of them as a lifelong purchase (fingers crossed) so personally I would recommend a bigger sized one.

Discussion about alternatives to KitchenAid mixers
Are kitchenaid stand mixers worth it? I’ve always wanted a kitchenaid for casual use (like making cakes cookies bread etc) but the price point always stops me.
I really like mine. If you keep an eye out for sales sometimes they’re quite discounted.
My friend makes a lot of bread so she had to go for a heavier duty Bosch.
yes, agreed. Kitchen aid for cakes and cookies, Bosch for bread
Discussion about affordability of stand mixers
That's ridiculous for a little kitchen appliance.
And the attachments are the bomb.
Eat the cost; over time that depreciates to pennies per use.
It has worked very well for me. I’ve made doughs, lots of cakes, and even more cookie dough.
Discussion about secondhand KitchenAid mixers
Nothing wrong with buying a cheaper stand mixer, but if you want a KitchenAid, try buying secondhand.
Did, and bought directly from KitchenAid refurb stock >10 years ago.
Watch your local yard sale groups on Facebook/ discord/ Craig's list.
Personal experience with a different budget mixer
lasted a solid 3 years until i knew i was taking baking seriously enough to dish out for a kenwood.
Discussion about affordable options for stand mixers
Bought myself a baking book called "Sweet Tooth" by Sarah Fennel and she recommended the kitchenaid stand mixer, but I can't afford that, especially since l'm just starting out.
Oo wait you are just starting then hand mixers are just fine to get too, you can always knead dough by hand when needed so don't worry mate
If you can afford both and are willing to spend the money, absolutely go with a stand mixer
If you have the space for it and don't want to hold a mixer, get a stand mixer. I never use my hand mixer anymore after getting one. If you have limited space and lots of energy, get a hand mixer.
Comparison to KitchenAid mixers
Not sure how it will stack up against my MIL's 6 quart KitchenAid, but I'm ready to throw some pizza dough at it.
I do like her KitchenAid. I figured I would get one whenever I see one on Vine.
Discussion about recommendations for stand mixers
Ankarsrum is popular among people who bake a lot of bread.
Ankarsrums are the ATK's recommendation and are $750
Kneeding a lot of dough? Absolutely go with Ankarsrum, its built a little different than the Kitchen Aid and can handle it much better.
Discussion on trying cheaper mixers before investing in more expensive ones
I want to try and buy a cheaper one to see if it's even a kitchen gadget that I would use on a regular basis.
Waiting on buying one until some predetermined time period, then setting aside money to see if it’s worth the investment.
Trying out another stand mixer just to see if you like it doesn't make a lot of financial sense.
Gauging need for kitchen gadgets
Gauging need for something is mostly left out of item reviews and kitchen appliance lists of 'must have' tools.
Suggestions for second-hand KitchenAid options
a kitchen aid second hand is a good option. If you re mechanically inclined get one that doesn't work right, they aren't hard to work on.
Advice on waiting for sales to buy a better mixer
Wait for a sale and get a nicer one. Take care of it and it will last for so long.
Concerns about the price and value of stand mixers
Are these worth the money? My kitchen aid died after less than a year but I'm not sure if I'm going to use it enough to justify an $800 appliance.
A focaccia dough is what broke my kitchen aid and so now I'm always going to take that into account! That price feels slightly more attainable.
Discussion about usage frequency for stand mixers
Is having a kitchen aid stand mixer worth it? I hope this is the right sub for this lol.
Its worth will depend on how much use it gets.
I think I’d get some pretty good use out of it but I’m not too familiar with all of the things it can do.
Comparison of new and old models
I have an older Artisan (got it in 2007) and it handles dough well (even heavy bagel dough), but I guess the newer models are not built as well.
Advice on purchasing used or refurbished models
Get a knock off or second hand one first.
This is a great summary. I picked up a used refurbished proline 7 and it has been great.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Skepticism about quality of budget stand mixers
Honestly, at that price, I'm very skeptical.
I think it would be an awesome interim measure for your gf and a very thoughtful gift.
Discussion about the durability of mixers
Lasting stand mixer I always bought the cheap Walmart brand of their hand mixers.
I bought a 6 quart kitchen aid with Petro points over 10 years ago, it's still going strong, never had an issue with it.
Mine is going on 30+ years. Still performs/looks brand new! 😀👍
Mine is 12 years old. About 8 years ago, I made dough with the paddle attachment, and left the kitchen. Came back to it billowing smoke (like overheated bearing grease).
Discussion about reliability of older mixers
most of the attachments have horrible reviews even on KA's website, and they are not cheap.
it's been great. One of my best kitchen investments.
I’ve never had an issue with my KA mixer. Mine is about 15 years old so it might be on that cusp of “was better in my day” you mentioned.
the new ones are shit. I have the 5 quart artisan bowl lift and it hasn't worked right since the day we bought it.
Skepticism about the quality of newer mixers
it still runs like it’s brand new. And the pasta attachments are totally worth it.
Concerns about product ratings and reviews
I can’t with the people who rated it poorly and left reviews on that whip but were mad about the bundled aluminum whip.
I know, its really dumb. At the same time, I would have preferred that the machines were shipped with stainless accessories so their gripe is not wrong, just misplaced.
Discussion about the durability and lifespan of mixers
Ankarsrim and Kenwoods last you a lifetime. So they a really worth, our 35 year old Kenwood runs like a charm.
