They make $5 neoprene inserts for traditional BDUs but personally I like a hard capped knee pad for playing in sticks and rocks.

Discussion of knee pads alternatives
External knee pads that don't suck
I have found elbow pads are really unnecessary, never really needed them.
Worked constructing in the past so my expectations are realistic as far as them staying in place.
The only time I have used elbow pads was when I was a HMMWV and MRAP gunner in Iraq.
Discussion on knee pad alternatives
I'd rather not catch a rock with my knee with all my body weight behind it
Overall pretty good.
they are a bit heavier, a bit larger, but more protective.
No more worrying about having to tighten them up after a long walk and integrated pads always stay in place.
Discussion of different brands and types of knee pads
Hydra 2.0, amazing knee pads.
Size down Exalt are my go to. Been using them for years with no issues.
Hydra hydra hydra. I can't say better things. Protect ur knees!
Discussion on favorite knee pads
Knee pads. One thing iv come to learn from coming back into the sport is that these joggers pants nowadays dont have near the amount of padding as old pants.
Hydra kneepads. Best kneepads you can get.
My knees are pretty fucked up from the jobs I have done. I put these ones on and it’s like I’m kneeling on a cloud! I love them and second this!.
Been using the same pair of hydra black pads for 4 seasons now.

I need to get some new pads as I seem to have outgrown my last pair 🙄
Discussion on knee pad comfort and alternatives
I’ve tried the exaults and the hydras, and both having my knees bright red and burning by the end of the weekend.
I double up on knee pads these days. Carbon sc bottoms with hydra 2.0. No rubbing.
My pads won’t rub or anything. But my knees seem to get red and tender if I only wear one or the other.
Try wrapping or getting something to prevent contact/friction? Swap kneepads.

the bottom edge dug into my leg so hard it cut off circulation.
The bottom edge is exactly what is killing me.
they were slightly too tight when new and broke in nicely after 3 or 4 wears.
Discussion on the practicality of single leg vs double knee pads
Standard issue knee pads are annoying.
I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve seen someone using two knee pads.
Discussion of knee pads for injury recovery
Knee Pads for injured knees I had ACL reconstruction last year and am getting back to playing, does anyone with a history of knee injury have a recommendation for pads?
I have dislocated my knee twice before and do not want it happening again and was recommended the Hydras and I love them, they are comfortable and if you get the correct size they do have compression to them.
I had major reconstructive on my left knee 20 years ago. My knees are shot. And my Carbon knee pads are phenomenal. Don't feel a thing.
I use a combo of knee braces from Pflexx and the BunkerKing pads. Bunker king pads have a neoprene lining and act as a compression knee strap.
Discussion on recommendations for knee pads
What type of pants are you wearing?
Exalt FreeFlex knee pads are great for woodsball.
Discussion of various knee pad brands and personal experiences
Protective Gear Advice Looking to get some new protective gear (knee pads, slider shorts and gloves
Carbon protective bottoms is one of the best purchases I’ve made in paintball.
Great grip, breathe well, and cheap to replace.
They were awesome. Great coverage of both the knee and upper shin, thick but flexible, and they didn't shift or get uncomfortable even when wearing them from 8 to 5.
Discussion on wearing requirements for protective gear
Amazing. Yes I did see their nylon requirement for those protective bottoms to survive. Appreciate the amazing review!

Discussion about preference for different knee pad brands
I really like my dye kneepads
Yeah it's better to try them on first of course.
Knee pads are generally worn under the pants, so not sure why that would be an issue.
Mention of other essential gear like footwear
Decent footwear is a must; tripping and falling is how most people get hurt when playing.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion of knee pad effectiveness on hard surfaces
Any good knee pad suggestions for woodsball? I’ve been using like 10$ Walmart plastic ones that always slide down, and I’m nervous that soft knee pads (like volleyball knee pads/etc) won’t cut it on rocks and roots.
Hydra. I was also skeptical of them not being able to handle abuse on hard surfaces like rocks and sharp objects and I was wrong. They can do it all, plus I need ones I can be comfortable in all day long and don’t hinder movement.
Everyone is going to say Hydra, and for some they work. But for me, they were the worst kneepads I've owned in the last couple decades of playing. They just felt like lifting knee brace sleeves, extremely tight, painfully so, and still slid down every point.
Discussion on the best knee pads for heavy impact usage
Best knee pads for coming down hard on your knees? I’m using some basic volleyball knee pads right now but for one of my moves I come down with a lot of momentum on one knee.
AMA are a bit more on the expensive side but they’re honestly the best knee pads I’ve ever used.
I am not looking forward to the day I have to replace my Trace's.
