Snoop's Take

The Presto 02937 Dorothy™ Electric Rapid Cold Brewer allows users to brew cold coffee at home in just 15 to 20 minutes, eliminating the long wait times typically associated with cold brew coffee. Users have praised its ease of use, with sentiments like, "This is the easiest thing to make at home," and many appreciate the unique flavor it produces, often describing it as "coldpresso." However, some users have noted that it requires a significant amount of coffee grounds for optimal flavor, with comments such as, "I was using obscene amounts of coffee per water ratio," suggesting it may take some experimentation to perfect the brew. Considering the positive feedback regarding its quick brewing time and unique flavor profile, the Presto 02937 Dorothy™ Electric Rapid Cold Brewer is generally recommended for those looking for a convenient at-home cold brew solution, especially if they are willing to adjust their coffee-to-water ratios for the best results.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Brews quickly in 20 minutes
Works pretty well and takes about 20 minutes.
It makes a cloudy looking coffee that isn’t as pretty but you can’t pick up any of the cloudiness.
Unique flavor profile
it’s a little unique. Most of the people are describing it as “coldpresso”.
Easy to make cold brew at home
This is the easiest thing to make at home.
Why not just make it yourself? I got a coffee sock and 64oz mason jar.
A lot of you were interested in how I make Cold Brew so I decided to document the process.
Produces strong cold brew
I still have mine, I used it ALL the time when I was working nights.
Play with the time brewed.
With this one light roast I bought I actually preferred the taste after only 8 hours.
Saves money on coffee shop cold brew
I’m hoping that this saves me serious $$ over my ‘tall cold brew with 1 pump’ addiction!!
Brews cold brew quickly in 20 minutes
I used it again today, definitely assembled everything correctly and it popped open again (this time sending the lid flying across the kitchen).
I've used mine a few times now. I haven't had a problem other than a really small leak on the coffee lid which happened cause I didn't screw it on tight enough, but that was my fault and it's been perfect every other time since.

Where it needs some work!

Requires a lot of coffee grounds
Dash cold brew maker requires a LOT of coffee grounds - can I get away with less?
I’m seriously considering one of those “rapid” cold brew makers like the Dash that claims to make cold brew in under an hour.
Can I use this cold brew coffee maker to make iced tea?
Has anyone ever heard of cold brew being made so fast?
Requires a lot of coffee grounds for strong flavor
I was using obscene amounts of coffee per water ratio.
it still tasted like weak cold coffee, without the unique cold brew flavour if store bought cold brew.
Can produce weak cold brew if not brewed long enough
Uh what? You're oversteeping the hell out of your cold brew. I do 18-24 hours.
Lid can pop off during use
I do love the coffee it makes now.
Works great now.
Can leak if not assembled correctly
Huge mess. After I realized that and made sure it was screwed on level, it's been perfect.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on grind size affecting cold brew strength
I know the general recommendation is to do a coarse grind for cold brew, but my brew has tended to turn out too watery that way.
This may sound crazy but for the most part every time I have made cold brew, as of now, I've used a different kind of coffee.
Dont even need to spend money on a toddy. Literally just put beans/water in some container and then strain 18 hours later.
Discussion about plastic-free coffee makers
Plastic-free coffee makers? I realized recently that my beloved daily cup of coffee is probably full of microplastics due to the hot liquid passing through so many plastic parts.
Not sure about automatic machines, but a Moka pot or a Chemex pourover would be completely plastic free if you’re open to a new brewing method!
We use a French press!
Glass French press! Bonus that it’s great for minimalism / taking up less space!
Discussion on brewing times and methods
Right? In cold brew days matter, not hours.
Yeah you don't get proper extraction without heat and if you leave the coffee too long in the open air it's gonna develop a more bitter taste.
Preference for different coffee brewing techniques
I do this too, with an aeropress brewed over ice. I use half the amount of hot water I would normally use for a regular coffee and the other half is ice.
I make ~60 fl ounces every night with a sun tea jug. Steep 12 ish hours, the frugal move is Costco whole bean 3 lb bags and then a Aldis in house coffee bean filter.
Discussion about cold brew preferences
Dash Cold Brewer I love cold brew but hate the amount of time it takes to make.

Discussion on cold brew making methods and preferences.
Wow didn’t know a sub like this exist.
I put the grinds in a coffee sock, toss that in a food safe bucket with water at room temp for 24 hours.
Without a doubt, I would pay for the Oxo if I didn't get it for free.
Oxo continues to impress me.
Variety of brewing times and methods discussed
The first time turned out fantastic. The second... it turned out to have unpleasant, bitter notes.
I use the 1 quart version and am finally getting results I really like!
Discussion on the functionality of cold brew makers for yeast starters.
they are only 10 bucks!! what makes them super cheap for a yeast stir
The idea behind making a starter is usually to increase the amount of viable yeast you have, e.g. turning 100 billion cells into 300 billion cells.
Looks like it could work fine. However, my normal starter size is about a liter.
Discussion on using the cold brew maker for iced tea
Yes you can. I have used a French press to make cold brew tea before
Discussion on cold brew growler refills
Coffee! Does anyone have coffee shop recommendations that do cold brew growler refills?
It's me, the guy that won't shut up about Endorffeine: they do cold brew growlers and it's the best cold brew in town.
I believe City Bean Roasters will do that. Their stuff is great and very reasonably priced for the high quality.
Discussion on different cold brew methods
I just throw ground coffee into a Bodum French press the day before, ready to pour right out of the container.
I would just tack two more (totally optional) points onto this: 1. Use a light or medium roast. If you get a dark roast your end product is probably going to taste more like the roasting process than the coffee itself. Don't worry - it'll still be plenty strong enough.
I actually bought an almond milk bag off amazon for this. Basically it's a cheese cloth sack and I put the grounds in there and add to my pitcher with water.

Discussion on convenience of different cold brew methods
I just don't want to think of it and have it ready when I wake up in the mornings.
Once a week you make ½ gallon or a gallon and drink it throughout the week.
switching to 12 hour brews made it less of a burden for me personally.
just press down and BA-BLAM. Cold Brew.
Preference for filtered water over tap water
Filtered water is definitely the way to go.
I've never had a sour taste before, so I don't know what that's about.
Discussion on convenience of different cold brew methods.
The question is though, is the result the same.
Discussion on coffee ratios for cold brew
How much water you're putting in too?
They are making 40 fl oz of coffee (1.18L) with 184 g of coffee.
The consensus seems to be that rather than use less grounds when I make the coffee I should dilute it some when I serve it.
I use a ratio of about 16g coffee to 100ml of water, but I also use it as a concentrate and dilute it 1:1 with water when I serve it.
Discussion on cold brew making methods and preferences
Seriously, one of the best things about cold brew is how easy it is.
here’s a short video detailing a cold brew recipe that takes only a couple of minutes and works based on using agitation instead of steeping.
Recommendations for cold brew setups
Oxo Cold Brew Maker is the shit. Highly recommend it.
At the volume you go just get your own cold brewing set up, I have a cold brew set up that can make a gallon of cold brew tea or coffee at a time.
Price fluctuations on Amazon
Heads up: price on amazon is down to $54.28.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Opinions on using metal strainer vs paper filter
I personally don’t like the metal strainer, it’s a little more bitter and keeps some of the oils that a paper filter removes.
They make metal filters for mason jars which are also nice
Discussion on coffee concentration levels in cold brew.
TLDR; don’t forget to google proper cold brew coffee techniques instead of just winging it and almost crapping yourself at work
Yeah, it's basically a concentrate at that point. Half a cup with lots of water or milk or creamer is plenty for a morning sip.
I love my ultra concentrated cold brew, I usually brew for minimum 4 days.
There are several warnings in the instructions not to drink any of the resulting syrup without diluting as it can be lethal ☠️
Humorous comments about brewing mishaps and strong coffee.
Potion of Shit Yourself
Potion Seller! I am going into battle with my colon, and I am in need of your strongest coffee.
My potions are too strong for you, traveler. Find someone who sells weaker potions.
Hehe my artificient specialised on brewing potions might be able to to the same
Humorous comments about brewing mishaps
probably, I mean it's not as if the Tea Police will smash your door down mid brew
I made this joke before but...:
I fold the cheesecloth, but have never thought to press. Goodness.
Humorous comments about coffee mishaps
My cold brew coffee started bubbling when I added milk, also cold
your coffee is infused with souls
Those aren't bubbles, those are tortured souls desperately trying to free thselves from the hell shackled chains that is your coffee cup. just look at their screams 😱
Looks like the wallpaper from the old Doom games.
