What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to clean
I’ve brewed with both. Didn’t really notice any differences in taste. The Takeya is way easier to clean
I have a Toddy, but someone with a Takeya asked me to make cold brew with it. It was easy.
I grind my beans, put beans in pitcher, let it brew at room temp for 18 hours. Done deal. Easy clean.
Produces smooth cold brew
both times the coffee comes out weak and it seems like half the grounds are still dry.
A more coarse grind should allow water to move more readily through the grounds, which will strengthen the resulting coffee.
Easy to use with various coffee grounds
I use the same cold brew maker. With the French press you might see the coffee have more hydration.
Coarse is recommended. Regular can leave a sludge at the end of the carafe.
Follow the ratios given with the Takeya. 170 grams of coffee. I grind coarse.
Convenient size fits in refrigerator
I used a relative's Takeya once and the coffee was fine.
Made my own cold brew for the whole week for less than the price of one drink at Starbucks!
Durable construction
the 2 qt one just doesn’t make a strong enough brew.
I would recommend this product to anyone interested in cold brewing.
I haven't noticed any deterioration in the flavor over the course of 2 weeks or so.
Effective cold brew method
My coffee grounds in my cold brew maker are dry even after sitting overnight.
It actually said to lay it on its side in the instructions but others have commented before recommending this method.
Easy to follow instructions
I own both version of the brewer and I typically pour water directly into the grounds, once it fills up and all grounds are wetted I put the top on and fill jug the rest of the way.
Durable and effective
Crazy simple to use, durable, and effective.
Easy to use for making cold brew
So I could make concentrate or just ready to drink cold brew in the Takeya based on how much course ground coffee I put in the filter compared to the water, right?
Easy to use and clean
Cold brew bottle suggestions Hi! I am currently using a mason jar and coffee filter for cold brew bu
It’s super easy to use and clean.
Ooh, I might have to try that. I think my ratio is already pretty diluted but I may try a longer res
Honestly, if youre willing to give it a stir here and there and strain through cheeses cloth, you dont even really need anything to keep the grounds contained/submerged.
Super easy to use
My Toddy makes incredibly delicious cold brew but the Takeya looks SO much faster and easier to use.
Super easy, all-in-one container that fits on any shelf in my fridge
Durable and continues to perform well over time
Just got one a week ago and love it.
Produces smooth and flavorful cold brew
Starbucks cold brew was costing $5 a day, made my own cold brew and simple syrup and now it’s maybe $1/day to feed my cold brew cravings!
What I like about cold brew is that it's so convenient. It's just there waiting for you.
Convenient for making cold brew at home
Make your own cold brew. It's super simple.
It's super easy.
Effective method for cold brewing
Should I be like, sick or something?
Does cold brew get a stale old taste to it when it isn’t fresh?

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Coffee can come out chalky
coffee comes out chalky sometimes and when I add creamer it seems to be like a “grayish” brown color instead of brown.
I followed the instructions and didn't have that problem.
just replace it with a bodum bean. that cold brew device is trash
Felt the takeya did a better job, the bodum always imparted a bad taste.
Coffee can come out bitter if not brewed correctly
Have fun with your cold brew if you add a hint if caramel it is delicious!
People take their cold brew seriously.
Brews weak coffee
I used to use the takaya and stopped bc it was always weak.
not coffee for the reasons you stated.
The coffee was a bit too weak even with the chamber fully filled.
Grounds can float on top
Finer grounds will likely not sink, and I have had some trouble with some brands of pre-ground coffee staying at the top/not sinking when making cold brew.
Produces a lot of silt
the Takeya makes a lot of silt. I have to filter it through a paper filter after it brews.
Brew time is lengthy
Not sure what the deal is with that
Brew time can be lengthy
My understanding is that generally it is less acidic.
Grounds can float and produce silt
Is there nothing you can add to coffee to neutralize the acidity? I’ve heard a pinch of salt works?
Does not produce strong cold brew
Having the coffee fully immersed in the water makes much stronger cold brew.
I keep it on the counter at room temperature to get a stronger brew, also it needs to be agitate by rotating/shaking the top once or twice a day.

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about coffee grind size for cold brew
For cold brew, the grind should be *very coarse*, coarser than French press.
Discussion about cold brew vs iced coffee
I believe hot-brewing ends up with more acidity, so cold-brew is considered more mellow in flavor.
I googled it and the results are evenly split.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Various cold brewing methods discussed
It makes it a much less bitter taste than when using heated water.
Likely because it's not cold brew, and downvoting false info is common and encouraged in some subs.
Alternative methods discussed
Just go with mason jar, you will save so much money and probably make better coffee
I use a RumbleJar. The coffee it produces is ready to drink so you don’t have to worry about ratios or diluting it.
Discussion about alternative brewing methods
Keep changing variables until something clicks.

Discussion about alternatives to the Takeya
I have the Takeya and Oxo. I prefer the oxo way more.
I'd really recommend looking at the Toddy Essential Brewer instead. You can add the felt filters and along with the paper filters you get a very clean silt free cold brew.
Takeya System Vs. Bodum Bean French Press Need help picking out my first cold brew maker, and I am torn between these 2 options.
Sure, the press part sits on the counter unused, but it could easily be stuck into a cabinet if room or aesthetics was an issue.
Cost comparisons with store-bought drinks
Every other week I can make cold brew for the entire week for $4.20.
Brewing time and strength variations
If you steep it for 12-14 hours you’ll get something ready to drink.
Comparison of cold brew methods
the Toddy cold brew maker is by far the easiest to use and to clean.
Users compare with Toddy cold brewer
My Toddy makes great Cold Brew imo but that’s much simpler.
Brewing techniques and grind size vary among users
a pretty coarse grind is recommended for all cold brew, but there is room for variation within that guideline.
I just use whole bag for the cold brew. Normally I used to 1:1 ratio for the cold brew.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Brewing time varies among users
I have 1 qt, usually use a 100g of coffee and it takes a little but more than 1000ml.
Cold brew can be pretty forgiving but this batch came out quite bitter which was never the case when using a French press.
My first ever cold brew batch using a French press I brew 12-14 hrs in fridge and it was bitter.
Debate on definitions of cold brew vs iced coffee
This is not cold brew, you’re making iced coffee.
it's not unorthodox, it's just iced coffee not cold brew
