Snoop's Take

The READYWISE 72 Hours Emergency Food Supply is a pre-made, freeze-dried meal kit designed for camping, hiking, and emergency preparedness. With 30 servings packed for convenience, it aims to sustain individuals during crises such as natural disasters for up to 72 hours. Consumer feedback reflects a mixed sentiment regarding the product. While some users appreciate its practicality and long shelf life, with one stating, "I find it to be the most practical for my lifestyle and for how I prep," others express dissatisfaction with the taste and serving sizes, claiming it to be "edible but not good." Additionally, there are concerns about its higher price compared to competitors and questions about its actual longevity in storage. In conclusion, while READYWISE offers a solution for emergency food needs with its long shelf life, potential buyers should weigh the mixed reviews regarding taste and value before making a purchase. For those prioritizing taste and calorie content, exploring alternative brands may be advisable.

I can't say it was the favorite thing I ever had but it certainly works.

Positive Feedback

It blows my mind that products are constantly more expensive when buying directly from the manufacturer.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Food is edible in emergencies
I can't say it was the favorite thing I ever had but it certainly works.
ReadyWise 150 Serving Freeze Dried Emergency Food Kit Bucket - 60% Off! $99.99
I understand it’s not the cheapest route but I find it to be the most practical for my lifestyle and for how I prep.
The actual "meals" are...."meh" at best. They are bland, nothing but carbs and most of the items that involve "meat" are "meat flavored" with little to no actual meat in them.
Some meals are considered tasty.
Rule number 1. Buy some and try it. People like mountain house for a reason.
Emergency food supply with long shelf life
I don’t understand how freeze dried meal pouches have about a 5-7 year shelf life but ready wise are offering a dry bag with similar pouches that have a 25 year shelf life.
Most people who are more experienced and 'deeper' into the art of prepping are making their own stuff for long term storage... but does anyone have experience or recommendations for prepackaged food like this?
Some meals are considered tasty
Good stuff. Expensive but worth the cost.
Freeze-dried food can last beyond printed date
'Best by' is not an expiration date, it means exactly what it means.
Readywise says 15 years after package date but after that it does not go bad but can lose some of the nutrients, flavor etc....
Good value at Costco
This was at our local Costco but I know not all the warehouses are carrying them.
Convenient preparation method
I think that most ‘ready made’ kits are. You could buy A LOT of pasta, instant rice, oatmeal and powdered milk and store in Mylar bags for a fraction of the price.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Higher prices when buying directly from ReadyWise
It blows my mind that products are constantly more expensive when buying directly from the manufacturer.
Augason farms has higher servings for less
Serving quantities may be misleading
Meh deal. Don't go by arbitrary serving quantities.
it is "edible" but not "good." Hunger is the best sauce, and if you needed it, it would serve you ok.
Most of these buckets are carbs. Potatoes, rice, soup mix, macaroni, and oatmeal.
a *serving* is a *portion* of a meal, not a complete meal in and of itself.
Preference for other brands over ReadyWise
Mountain House or Peak Refuel all the way.
Yup better than ready wise
Buy anything else. It's inedible trash.
Yea I go Mountain House or Bacpackers Pantry, ReadyWise is junk filler.
Taste is not great
Apparently the taste is 'meh' and, more importantly, the O2 content is dangerously high to be considered 'long term' storage.
Most of my freeze dried is #10 cans of Mountain House and Augeson Farms. Still want to try some of the newer manufacturers like 4Patriots, but they seem promising.
Taste is not great compared to competitors.
They are nothing but carbs with starch that they hope you will never actually eat....or if you do eat them you're not in a position to care or complain after.
Readywise is garbage. Mountain House is much better. Peak Refuel is best.
Meals are considered inedible
Found on the Walmart website and 100 servings for 70 bucks seem amazing compared to what I been buying
The meals are basically grool and you will not want to eat it even if you have to.
This is total junk. Every single entree pouch has '4 servings' with exactly 9 grams fat, 4 grams carbs, 4 grams protein per serving.
Plus, ReadyWise tastes horrible. And it's actually Wise Foods, which was successfully sued in a class action lawsuit in California for misrepresenting how long its emergency food kits would last.
Questionable shelf life and low calorie counts
Friends don't let friends buy ReadyWise (Wide Foods that rebranded.) Questionable shelf life, and the calorie counts are low.
Product considered inedible by some users
Ready life has a really bad reputation for being inedible in the backpacking community.
Misleading serving sizes and high sodium content
All this, very misleading serving sizes, and loaded with sodium.
Questionable shelf life claims
there is a HUGE difference between "25 years" and "up to 25 years".. Ready Wise really took a reputational hit on that..
my primary concern with ReadyWise is the stated shelf life vs actual. If you rotate it regularly and like the taste, then hey, that works for you!
Best by date may not reflect actual shelf life
probably still fine but I’d feel more comfortable to have them last longer on the printed date
Inedible meals reported by some users
Friends don't let friend buy Wise foods. (Now rebranded ReadyWise.) I would be a bit cautious due to a study indicating their packaging/long term longevity was not 100% honest.
Most of those emergency buckets have 2 to 3 broken pouches inside that are going to be leaking inside your bucket.
Heavy on soupy carbs and light on vegetable servings
Even in an emergency period of rationing, there is no way a 4oz package of carrots will feed a family and supply adequate nutrition.
Expensive and light on calories
Expensive, light on calories, and requires significantly more water than you think it does.
Considered not a good choice compared to other brands
Never used it; but the saying goes, friends don't let friends buy Wise Foods (which is Readywise, but rebranded).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on personal experiences with emergency food brands.
Am looking for individually packed meals and not something where I have to prepare 10 servings all at once.
Technical differences in freeze-drying processes
The technology and equipment used to freeze dry may be the difference
Discussion on shelf life and nutritional quality over time
They're the dessert packs made up by Ready Wise. They're freeze dried so I think they might last a bit longer than 2 years
Wise Foods have a manufactured date, not a best by date.
Preference for brands that provide accurate calorie counts
Emergency Essentials does genuinely give you the proper number of calories per day.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on alternatives to freeze-dried meals
Are there any brands that have comparable quality, but cheaper for the calories?
I bought a used dehydrator on Marketplace for $20 and I just dehydrate all my own food. It's way cheaper than freeze dried meals, tastes better, and you can choose your own portions.
I feel so much better eating homemade dehydrated food, and it tastes 10 times better as well.
Alternatively you could go to bulk barn and make your own meals.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Comparative pricing of other brands
150 serving version with free shipping for [$80]
Same price at Costco
Discussion on sampling before bulk purchase
I would definitely sample some before you decide to stock up on it.
Discussion about calorie requirements
Almost everything in there that isn't a drink mix is carbs, so it won't hold you for long either.
Recommendation to sample before bulk purchases
You do. Buy small samples and find out what you like before you commit to a large purchase.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on freeze-dried meal shelf life variability
Sometimes nutrition, ingredient variety and flavor are lowered to increase shelf life.
Preference for other brands over ReadyWise
Peak refuels are my favorite in the freeze-dried category.
Personal experiences with emergency food brands
Just read what you are buying, I thought I was buying a mix of food from my patriot and it turns out I got like 600 bags of pancake mix lol.
Discussion about LDS distributors and food pantry
Are these Mormon distributors only available for LDS members and is the save thing as "storehouses".
Primarily the storehouses *are a food pantry* for those who can't afford food.
There is a LDS distributor of freeze dried and shelf stable foods that is open to all.
Discussion on personal experiences with emergency food brands
It's hard to know what to buy if you're going this route, without trying them first.
Concerns about company reliability and product quality
if you google a company and they done have a very old business history stay a way.
Trust in backpackers for food reviews
Who does the best Freeze Dried food reviews? Who do you really trust?
Honestly, I look to backpackers for that advice. They actually eat the freeze dried food on a regular basis.
Caution about affiliate biases in reviews
There is great info on YouTube, but again, have to be careful of affiliate bias.
