Snoop's Take

READYWISE Breakfast Skillet is a convenient, nutrient-dense meal solution designed for outdoor enthusiasts. This freeze-dried food option is ideal for camping, hiking, and backpacking, providing a quick, hearty meal with minimal preparation. Consumer sentiment around the READYWISE Breakfast Skillet is quite mixed, with many praising the high-quality individual ingredients but criticizing the taste and serving sizes. As one user noted, "the individual ingredients, the veggies and fruits for example, are fine," while others expressed dissatisfaction stating, "ReadyWise tastes horrible" and "it's inedible trash." The product's premium pricing is another point of contention, with comments like "expensive but worth the cost" juxtaposed against thoughts that it is overpriced considering competitors. Overall, while the READYWISE Breakfast Skillet offers great nutritional value and convenience, potential buyers should consider the varied feedback regarding taste and serving sizes before making a decision. For those prioritizing quick prep and nutrient density, it may still be a worthwhile addition to outdoor gear, but taste preferences and budget considerations should not be overlooked.

Positive Feedback

It blows my mind that products are constantly more expensive when buying directly from the manufacturer.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
High-quality individual ingredients
The individual ingredients, the veggies and fruits for example, are fine.
Expensive but worth the cost
Good stuff. Expensive but worth the cost.
Long shelf life for freeze-dried foods
They're the dessert packs made up by Ready Wise. They're freeze dried so I think they might last a bit longer than 2 years
Some stuff can last for years, or decades, past the "best by" date. But texture, flavour and nutritional quality may decline.
Readywise says 15 years after package date but after that it does not go bad but can lose some of the nutrients, flavor etc....
Good deal at Costco
This was at our local Costco but I know not all the warehouses are carrying them.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Expensive compared to competitor prices
It blows my mind that products are constantly more expensive when buying directly from the manufacturer.
Don't go by arbitrary serving quantities.
Oof, nice deal but I think you’d actually have to pay me to eat readywise.
Same price at Costco.
Taste is mediocre and not enjoyable
Yeah, the realistic serving number is way lower than what they claim.
Personally I dislike Readywise because of the taste.
Friends don't let Friends buy Wise Foods.
Serving size expectations are misleading
So it's actually a bucket with a 10 day supply of food in it. Not as good of a deal.
a *serving* is a *portion* of a meal, not a complete meal in and of itself.
Mediocre taste and not enjoyable
They are nothing but carbs with starch that they hope you will never actually eat....or if you do eat them you're not in a position to care or complain after.
The meals are basically grool and you will not want to eat it even if you have to.
Buy anything else. It's inedible trash.
Questionable shelf life and low calorie counts
Friends don't let friends buy ReadyWise (Wide Foods that rebranded.) Questionable shelf life, and the calorie counts are low.
Inedible reputation in the backpacking community
Ready life has a really bad reputation for being inedible in the backpacking community.
Misleading serving sizes and high sodium content
All this, very misleading serving sizes, and loaded with sodium.
Questionable calorie count and shelf life
there is a HUGE difference between "25 years" and "up to 25 years"..
Most flavors are not enjoyable and have low-quality ingredients
Dumb question. Whats general opinion on ReadyWise? Good? Bad?
Most of the regular line is gross. Lots of junk ingredients.
ReadyWise isn't great, good, or even sorta OK, really.
Some flavors are edible only in emergencies
I'd eat it if it was my only option versus starving.
Misleading serving sizes
I would definitely sample some before you decide to stock up on it.
Readiwise Freeze-dried kits COSTCO has READIWISE Emergency Food Kit 150 bucket for $99.
Nutritional quality may decline after 'best by' date
I’d feel more comfortable to have them last longer on the printed date.
Ambiguity around shelf life dates
Wise Foods have a manufactured date, not a best by date.
Misleading shelf life claims
my primary concern with ReadyWise is the stated shelf life vs actual.
Taste issues
The taste, consistency, and smell are awful compared to nearly every other option.
High price compared to homemade options
I think that most ‘ready made’ kits are. You could buy A LOT of pasta, instant rice, oatmeal and powdered milk and store in Mylar bags for a fraction of the price.
Packaging issues with broken pouches
Most of those emergency buckets have 2 to 3 broken pouches inside that are going to be leaking inside your bucket.
Questionable quality of ingredients
ReadyWise is the one that had some red flags.
Mediocre taste and considered junk
Plus, ReadyWise tastes horrible.
ReadyWise is junk filler.
ReadyWise foods is rebranded Wise Foods.
Heavy on soupy carbs, light on vegetables
Any experience with Readywise food? I see it advertised but I've never used any.
They weren't. The buckets are heavy on soupy carbs and very light on vegetable servings.
Expensive and light on calories
Expensive, light on calories, and requires significantly more water than you think it does.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General chatter about emergency food
Am looking for individually packed meals and not something where I have to prepare 10 servings all at once.
Discussion on freeze-dried food shelf life
Are the vast majority of meal pouches given low best before dates or are ready wise vastly over estimating their product?
Sometimes nutrition, ingredient variety and flavor are lowered to increase shelf life.
The technology and equipment used to freeze dry may be the difference
Positive experience with freeze-dried fruits and desserts
Everything in the pail was absolute garbage.
Discussion about preferences in freeze-dried meals
Peak refuels are my favorite in the freeze-dried category.
General discussion about store-bought freeze-dried meals
Everyone talks about doing their own food preps, however I don't see much on the common "store bought" freeze dried prepared long term storage (25+ years) prepackaged meals.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Comparison to grocery store freeze-dried meals
Many are very similiar to Western easy meals (eg sidekicks) which are freeze dried or pancake mix, etc.
Consideration of bulk purchase for practical lifestyle
I find it to be the most practical for my lifestyle and for how I prep.
Debate on food preparation strategies
both thermoses came back empty.
Discussion on calorie needs
Almost everything in there that isn't a drink mix is carbs, so it won't hold you for long either.
Confusion about purchasing from LDS distributors
Are these Mormon distributors only available for LDS members and is the save thing as "storehouses".
Primarily the storehouses *are a food pantry* for those who can't afford food.
I used Emergency Essentials but the LDS folks beat them in pricing and availability these days.
Mistaken purchases of bulk food items
Just read what you are buying, I thought I was buying a mix of food from my patriot and it turns out I got like 600 bags of pancake mix lol
Difficulty in finding reliable food options for prepping
It's hard to know what to buy if you're going this route, without trying them first.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Some people consider it edible in emergency situations
I ate one pouch of whatever it was and I would say it's one pouch per adult per meal.
Subjective opinions on taste
taste - much like asshole and opinions - is subjective.
Some people find them funny. Some people find them irritating. And a few eat them.
Friends advise against buying Wise Foods (Readywise)
Never used it; but the saying goes, friends don't let friends buy Wise Foods (which is Readywise, but rebranded).
Concerns about product quality and business integrity
if you google a company and they done have a very old business history stay a way.
