Built from high-density manganese steel, these crampons boast a durable elastic harness that keeps them securely attached to various footwear, making them ideal for activities like hiking, mountaineering, and ice climbing. Users have praised their stability and traction with comments like, "they’re the most secure and precise crampons I’ve used," highlighting their effectiveness in challenging conditions, although some noted concerns regarding strap loosening over time. Feedback indicates a strong consumer sentiment around the durability and performance of the BRS crampons, with many users expressing satisfaction with their grip on icy surfaces and secure fit on boots. I've been using a pair of Harfang crampons for almost two years now (the ones with aluminum and steel), on both ski boots and very flexible alpine boots, and I'm delighted with them.

Positive Feedback

Once its gone thru its initial stretch, its pretty solid and I don't worry about it loosening.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable construction for use in harsh environments
I've been using a pair of Harfang crampons for almost two years now (the ones with aluminum and steel), on both ski boots and very flexible alpine boots, and I'm delighted with them.
Blue Ice Harfang family crampons - is there any way to make them stay tight? I really love the concept of the dyneema strap and its impact on packability and weight, and I was super excited to use these crampons.
I have the Harfang Alpine and never had a problem with the straps coming loose. I tightened them well before the first use and retightened them before the second time.
Provides excellent traction on icy surfaces
Universal crampon recommendations I am looking to get a pair of crampons that can be used with trail runners or hiking boots and wanted to see which ones people prefer.
I use harfangs a lot in the winter for ski mountaineering objectives and haven't had any issues with loosening besides during the initial break-in period.
I was having this same issue, I eventually got them to stay. I can’t say exactly what did the trick but something that seemed to help was cranking them really tight.
Ever since I've been born, my dad has taken me to hike, trek and climb, and transferred to me his passion for mountains.
Secure and precise fit
they’re the most secure and precise crampons I’ve used.
Loved my BRs. Super stable.
Stable performance for climbing
Great crampon for that, as long as you fit them correctly on your boots.
Secure fit on boots
Typically, I want to see contact against all four posts of the semi-auto crampon against the rubber of the boot.
To me, it looks good.
Crampons work well with soft shoes like trail runners
You can absolutely use crampons with soft shoes.
Supposedly they work with flexible soles and can be used with trail runners.
Good warranty resolution from manufacturer
seems like a good resolution so far.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Strap may loosen over time
Once its gone thru its initial stretch, its pretty solid and I don't worry about it loosening.
Trail runners should be used only with micro spikes if the trail has ice on it, they're not designed for alpinism.
All of them have slipping problems. At this point, they're for light duty ski touring only.
Front section smaller than other crampons, affecting stability
the front section is much smaller than other 12 point crampons, so they’re not as stable as a g12 or petzl vasak.
I think crampons and trail runners would be a bad combo?
Metal wears quickly on rock surfaces
Great crampon. I love them, but be aware the metal is soft and wears quickly on rock.
Compatibility issues with certain boots
make sure the square offset in the linking bar clears your boot heel.
Secondary points too far back for ice climbing
They're fine, but if you're ice climbing, your secondary points are too far back.
Not EN/UIAA certified
They haven’t been tested to (and/or don’t meet) EN/UIAA standards, so you get to be the test dummy to determine the quality.
Nope. Get real, EN/UIAA certified crampons if you need more than microspikes.
If you’re going to be in terrain where a crampon failure could lead to a catastrophic accident... then I would go with a company that has an EN/UIAA rating.
Crampons may not perform well on technical terrain with soft shoes
Crampons are made to smash the front end into ice, for that you also need a more rugged shoe, to absorb the shock.
Lateral flexing of the frame can lead to failure
I wonder if a longer bolt would have minimized the lateral flexing of the frame part that breaks on the BRs.
So not really sure what I could have done differently to prevent them breaking.

Discussion about recommendations for crampons for beginners
I’m doing a glacier class which also includes some ice climbing which I expect is going to be *very* mild considering we’re only asked to bring a single glacier axe.
They work on moderate slopes 40-70 degrees of hard packed snow, and some ice (I haven’t run into Blue Ice yet though), if you frontpoint.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns regarding the design of fabric with sharp points
I find the idea of mixing any kind of fabric with sharp pointy things off putting.
