Snoop's Take

The Tomaje 24 Spikes Crampons are designed to provide excellent traction on icy surfaces, making them ideal for hiking, walking, climbing, and fishing during winter conditions. With 24 high-quality stainless steel spikes and a flexible silicone construction, these crampons ensure safety and durability while being lightweight and portable enough for easy transport. Consumer feedback highlights the significant traction these crampons provide, with users noting that "we definitely noticed a difference" when using them on icy paths. However, some users mention that they may be overkill for mild winter walking, suggesting that for certain conditions, lighter alternatives like microspikes may be more appropriate. The adjustable design has received praise for accommodating various boot sizes, though there are warnings about the potential risk of snapping at the welds during use. Overall, the Tomaje 24 Spikes Crampons are recommended for those needing reliable traction in harsh winter conditions, but users should be aware of their limitations in less demanding terrains.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Provides significant traction on icy surfaces
we definitely noticed a difference.
When do micro spikes stop being sufficient and crampons become required?
Will a slip cause bumps and bruises or broken bones and death. If it's the latter, crampons.
Adjustable for different boot sizes
they are adjustable for different boot sizes.
Don’t use these anywhere you actually need crampons, they will snap at the welds.
Durable construction with strong spikes
If it’s relevant, I’m getting them for a (hopeful) late-May ascent of Adams and St Helen’s and figured I’d want something in the case of gnarly crust.
Lightweight and portable design
They say ATK crampons are not ideal for Kingpins but it may not be an issue if your boot sole length is long enough.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Crampons can be overkill for mild winter walking
You don’t want crampons, you want microspikes.
Relied on these to good success doing the High Sierra portion of the PCT in 90+% snow conditions (June 2023, record snow year).
Risk of falling without proper traction
Heaps of people have crampons and it just seems to make it so less dicey.
Risk of snapping at the welds
they look great, but bear in mind that failure of your crampons at the wrong time can put you into gnarly situations
Not suitable for steep or technical terrain
Maybe i will make a second sturdier version.
Those swiss army crampons would also perform a lot better.

Discussion about the utility of crampons for different activities
Crampons provide a small but wide range of passive benefits while the holster gives just -2.2 kilos and I'm having trouble deciding on what is best
No need to wear the crampons all the time. Just bring along and only wear them for climbing ropes, beachcombing, etc.
I'd go with the crampons and the moose satchel. As an interloper player, I'd suspect you're used to carrying only the bow, so not carrying a rifle should be second nature to you, meaning why give up a slot to carry a gun for a mere weight burden reduction.

Discussion about alternatives like microspikes for winter hiking
Microspikes for low angle hard consolidated snow, (mt laguna)
I used them on Mt. Whitney late in 2014 and they were a life-saver on the ice and packed snow.
I used microspikes this year, worked great.
What you have is perfect for the pct.
General chatter about using Yaktrax for walking on ice
Cheap Yaktrax would have been helpful at a lot of the waterfalls but I got around fine with normal boots.
Agree - yaktrax were also great for walking around Reykjavik on icy sidewalks
Yak Trax give you superpowers on ice. Take them off before stepping on a smooth ice free surface or you'll end up on your butt.
Very easy to pop on and off too.
DIY projects for crampons
Or you could buy old military crampons online, i saw some from the swiss army for about 20 euros.
Discussion about attaching crampons to backpacks
What type of cord or webbing to attach crampons to daisy chains on outside pack? Hi folks!
It's truly best to put everything inside your pack. Puts the weight closer to your back, prevents snags, prevents losing essential gear.
The shock cord is very rugged so it probably won't be damaged, but it will be annoyingly hard to get the crampons underneath.
I use denim for my crampon bag. Cut the lower leg off an old pair of jeans, sew one end shut, and then either thread a purse string closure or use Velcro on the other end.

Discussion about crampon compatibility with NTN boots
Has anyone else found a good crampon for low angle ice/mixed that has worked out for you?
Camp Ascent works great.
I use these as well and have never had an issue
Looking for a similar solution; where did you get the dyneema string to replace the metal toe bail?
Discussion about crampon compatibility with different boot types
There is only one way to know, which is to try them on your boot.
The BD Contact work fine for steep snow and fit most boots.
I think the main thing is that you'll need to take your boots with you when buying crampons to make sure that you'll be able to get that bomber fit.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about strap issues and adjustments
There is a gap between the strap and the arch of my boots, as is standard with crampon bars and boot soles.
I use harfangs a lot in the winter for ski mountaineering objectives and haven't had any issues with loosening besides during the initial break-in period.
something that seemed to help was cranking them really tight. Counterintuitive for sure but it made a difference for me.
All of them have slipping problems. At this point, they're for light duty ski touring only.
