Snoop's Take

The Crampons for Shoes with 24 Stainless Steel Spikes by Magiduck are designed to provide exceptional traction on icy and slippery surfaces, making them ideal for winter hiking, walking, and climbing. Featuring durable stainless steel spikes and a flexible design, these crampons enhance stability and safety in hazardous conditions, allowing users to navigate through snow and ice with confidence. Consumer feedback highlights their effectiveness, with users noting that "it was a noticeable difference" when using them on icy sidewalks. Many appreciate the convenience they offer, especially in avoiding accidents during winter activities, as they are described as "really convenient on misery to avoid sprains". However, some concerns arise regarding their fit on flexible soles, which may lead to slippage, and potential issues with waterproofing due to tight straps. Overall, while the Magiduck crampons offer great traction and usability for many users, those with flexible-soled shoes may want to consider their specific footwear compatibility before purchasing. For those seeking reliable traction in icy conditions, these crampons are recommended, provided the user's shoes are suitable for their design.

Wife surprised me with a birthday holiday and is keeping a bit hush on itinerary but suspect we may find ourselves far south-east trekking on some of the trip.

Positive Feedback

The “fairly rigid” part will deceive you and the sole will flex like crazy and crampons will slip right when you can least afford it.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Provides better traction on icy surfaces
Wife surprised me with a birthday holiday and is keeping a bit hush on itinerary but suspect we may find ourselves far south-east trekking on some of the trip.
It was a noticeable difference. We weren’t hiking up hills or anything, but the few times we used them on icy sidewalks or parking lots we definitely noticed a difference.
Good traction on flat ice and packed trails
I've used microspikes before. They are really good relatively flat ice, packed down trails, and low-angle consolidated snow.
Convenient for quick use in hazardous conditions
They are really convenient on misery to avoid sprains I found
Better performance than improvised options
Apparently they are better than normal crampons

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Crampons may slip on flexible soles
The “fairly rigid” part will deceive you and the sole will flex like crazy and crampons will slip right when you can least afford it.
No, don't even try it. It is dangerous. I have the exact same shoes for general hiking.
Compared to the weight of real crampons (and the required hard-shell mountaineering boots to use them), microspikes are very lightweight.
Strapping on crampons can ruin waterproofing
wrenching strap on crampons super tight seems to flex the sole and seams too much over time and can ruin the waterproofing.
If you want to cross a glacier youll need proper Steigeisen (or crampons).
Soft soles are unsuitable for crampons
No shank no work. Get microspikes for hiking boots.
Microspikes take a huge amount of abuse and wear out and break constantly.
Potential for straps to pop off unexpectedly
Beware the first couple miles you put on a new pair of Petzl Leopards. The dyneema cords do stretch a bit and can pop off unexpectedly.
Potential for increased fatigue compared to improvised options
imp crampons have you about 15% extra fatigue (as in the grip meter to the right) over the found crampons.
Weight may be a concern for some users
It just seems like -5 speed and 1.65 lb. along with the Scrap and Leather used is a steep price.

Most don't wear them all the time, just take a second to put on when rope climbing, mountain goating or getting near weak ice.

Discussion on appropriate footwear for crampons
Will these work with strapped crampons? Going to hike the Skaftafell glacier in Iceland in September through an Arctic Adventures tour.
Ask the company. From a quick look, this looks like more of a fun tour on very low angle terrain with minimal to no consequence.
Does this look like a job for crampons or micro spikes? Any input would be appreciated!
Microspikes for firm snow conditions with low angle and low risk runouts.
Discussion on the appropriate use of different crampons
There are also boots that do not support either, but rather micro-spikes or micro-crampons.
100% depends on your specific use case.
Crampons are more for couloirs or a lot of ice , so I would recommend microspikes for most simple hikes.
I’ve only brought crampons on a couple specific hikes, and I was specifically planning to use them for all but one of those.
