Snoop's Take

The Leapiture 4 Toothed Crampon Hooks are lightweight climbing claws designed to enhance grip during outdoor activities like tree and rock climbing. These durable hand claws come with an adjustable wristband for a comfortable fit and are compact enough to carry in a backpack, making them a practical tool for outdoor enthusiasts. Consumer feedback highlights the product's lightweight design as a significant advantage, with one user noting, "Super light crampons?" This feature is particularly appealing for those looking for ease of transport without sacrificing functionality. However, some concerns have been raised regarding the lack of security for front pointing and potential performance issues in cold conditions, with one user questioning, "Do they snap when cold like most plastics?" Overall, while the Leapiture 4 Toothed Crampon Hooks offer a convenient and lightweight option for climbers, potential buyers should consider the feedback regarding security and performance. If you prioritize lightness and portability in your climbing gear, these claws may be a worthy addition to your toolkit.

Super light crampons? I saw this thread on r/ultralight about some aluminum half-crampons.

Positive Feedback

Interesting idea. I’m kinda doubtful of the security for any front pointing.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Lightweight design for easy carrying
Super light crampons? I saw this thread on r/ultralight about some aluminum half-crampons.
Not having the ability to side step or pied troisieme is a huge disadvantage and not worth the weight savings or security of a full auto crampon.
Does this look like a job for crampons or micro spikes? Any input would be appreciated!
Looking for light duty "Crampons" for crossing snow fields, possibly at an incline, safely.
Adjustable wristband fits most users
Youre looking for Grödel. Which is simply the German word for microspikes but the guys at the store will know what to show you.

Where it needs some work!

Lack of security for front pointing
Interesting idea. I’m kinda doubtful of the security for any front pointing.
I use exclusively hillsounds--similar to katoolas w/a few significant differences.
Plastic buckles may not perform well in cold
Do they snap when cold like most plastics? Don't most crampons use metal buckles for a reason?
Having used them for years I can confirm those fears.
Crampons may slip on flexible soles
The “fairly rigid” part will deceive you and the sole will flex like crazy and crampons will slip right when you can least afford it.
No, don't even try it. It is dangerous.
Strapping crampons too tightly can damage waterproofing
wrenching strap on crampons super tight seems to flex the sole and seams too much over time and can ruin the waterproofing.
go with the microspikes, and maybe next time try something a little more novel.

Insights on using crampons for various hiking conditions
You won't be able to front-point into steeper slopes and your traction won't be nearly as good as real crampons since the spikes are so small.

Comparison between microspikes and crampons
As you know, the difference in traction between a microspike and a crampon is huge. Microspikes are
They work great for traction but are terrible for situations where you need an “edge” or are just loading one aspect of your shoe.
Crampons are made to smash the front end into ice, for that you also need a more rugged shoe, to absorb the shock.
Microspikes for firm snow conditions with low angle and low risk runouts.
Discussion about using crampons with soft shoes
These might be of interest if you want something a bit more aggressive and safer than microspikes...Supposedly they work with flexible soles and can be used with trail runners.
Sounds to me like microspikes might ne appropriate for this hike.
It depends on the type of hike and Snow/Ice you will be encountering.
If you want something more aggressive than microspikes, you can look into the Kahtoola K10 of KTS.
Discussion about appropriate footwear for crampons
No shank no work. Get microspikes for hiking boots.
Ask the company. From a quick look, this looks like more of a fun tour on very low angle terrain with minimal to no consequence.
Discussion about compatibility of crampons with various boots
Sorry if this is the wrong forum- i am climbing(hiking) mt. Toubkal in january and was told we could rent crampons- however, i have no idea whether my boots are compatible, og even what model it is.. can anyone help me answer this?
Not with semi-automatic crampons. Not with automatic neither.
Yes! Check if it’s rigid, if not, boot will flex and crampons will fall off if they are semi or automatic.
Strap on crampons should be fine with those but it would probably be a good idea to get the more flexible crampons you can in Imlil.
